    You can loosen the foot nuts and use a 10mm & 15mm socket with a hammer to unseat the air spring & damper.

      There's a risk you will damage the alu nut if you hit on it with a socket. A damaged nut might make the shaft rotate with the nut. I remove the nut and use something with a hole that fits over the rebound screw.

      @redtobertshateshandles 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kentsolgule5362 screw the nuts on as far as you can to spread the load amongst as many threads as possible. And use a soft hammer or wood.

    That was fantastic, Christina. You explained this better than any other presenter on any cycling channel. I am so glad that Pinkbike had the wisdom to hire you. I think Pinkbike should have a weekly show called something like "Christina's Tech Tutorials". You make learning fun and easy. You are articulate, intelligent, thorough, talented, and entertaining. The perfect teacher. I hope to see many more videos like this, in the future.

    Well done. I've watched countless fork service videos. This one was straight to the point and useful. As a recovering bike mechanic, I even learned a new trick (beaker for suspension fluid). One request: I'd REALLY like to see the same level of no-frills description for LSC tuning. I'd like to see someone explain and demo the interplay between fork air pressure, air volume, and LSC for different riding conditions. I'm one of those "run almost zero LSC and hope for the best" luddites, and I'm sure I'm doing it wrong. Not sure if that is appropriate for a winter overhaul series, but definitely something I'd love to see.

    Just serviced my Z1 following these tips and it was really helpful! My seals were a pain in the ass and I beat the hell out of them trying to get them out... But after a year of hard riding and bikepacking it was leaking oil during rides on one side anyways so they needed to be replaced. Thanks Christina and PB for an awesome video! Definitely need more like this!

    I would like to see how the compression and decompression ( rebound ) controls affect the valving inside the fork.
    Logically theses valves allow flow in one direction each. Are theses controls actually a very long knob stem that reaches up inside the fork ?
    I feel a better understanding what these knobs/levers are actually doing and being able to mentally visualise the inner workings can only lead to a better suspension set up.
    A simple Marzocchi Z1 Bomber Air , having basic low speed compression and rebound ( which just co-incidently I have ) , should keep it simple and straight forward.
    Good tutorial.

    Things like this are best learned on something shagged. Look around on those buy/swap groups or your local newspaper. Pick up a set of clapped out forks to learn on. Sure it's hard to cock up but it's still better to practice on some knackered old things than to risk a £1000 set of forks. Besides, if you get those old forks working nicely someone might want them for a bit of cash.

    My old reliable Marzocchi Junior-T only needs every 10 years an oil change and the sealings should be cleaned regularly. After cleaning i apply a µ of silicon-spray, compress the fork 2 or 3 times and remove the surplus silicon. This let the coating of the standpipes remain like new with literally zero breakaway torque. 6:28 I use household wet wipes (melon scent). No lint and the right ammount of cleaning agent. They're also pretty useful to get rid of this nasty chain goo. Don't use them on brake disks/pads because of the soapy ingredients.

    First seconds of work and already a fail. First notice the pressure before releasing the air.
    Going on with this extra expensive tools while other guys which know how it works use tools everbody has at home.
    Also wearing gloves and then using a brush to get some grease to the dust wipers is bad because if u loose a hair it will be on the wipers.

    Do not use isopropyl. Use denatured instead.

      Denatured alcohol leaves a residue, can attack some rubbers and plastics, and is harsher on your skin. Isopropyl does none of the above..

      @@hjohn2 I’d rather have whatever it leaves behind over water in the fork, if the lower is completely disassembled there shouldn’t be any rubber or plastic in there, I also don’t rub it on my skin because I’m not a pinecone… not to mention it is a much better degreaser than iso
