So sad that another great legend is gone! Tony had one of the longest active careers of any artist starting in the 30's till only a few years ago. He has a huge library of songs & collaborated with many of the best artists out there. Thankfully he has left us a great legacy of music.
Tony was part of the era of the big singers, which included Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Bing Crosby, and others. It was their voices, backed by great orchestras, that made them popular. You should explore the Big Bands that included Glen Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Cab Calloway, Jimmy Dorsey, and many others. That is the music I grew up listening to.
Sadly we recently lost Mr Tony Bennett, this takes me back to my childhood when mum would play these records on our radiogram and we didn't have a care in the world. An absolutely amazing beautiful voice and song❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
It’s a tribute to Tony that he sang so convincingly of a city he didn’t even visit that often! The part about “your golden sun will shine for me,” really tells you that the writer didn’t spend a lot of time there. Tony Bennet led a great life. His career only recently ended, when Alzheimer’s started to take his mind away. In those 7 decades he worked with everyone from Frank Sinatra to Lady Gaga. He was also unflinching in his support for civil rights, matching with Dr King when it was not the safe or popular thing to do. Tony Bennett was one of a kind, and we will never see his like again. May he rest in peace.
Saw Tony live at the Hilton Hotel Ballroom in San Fran, 2001...with just a 3 piece band of piano, bass and drums, He kept us happy all night..It felt like we were guests in his home!! While the crowd was leaving afterwards, I heard some college kids say, "Man, how come people don't make music like that anymore--It was so sweet and pure" When people like U2 and Lady Gaga wanna record with ya, that's when you knew how great of a person and singer he was..

This song makes me cry. My dad was born in SF in 1927 and spent the most of his life there. I too was born there. He loved this song and would sing it all time. We played it at his funeral.😢❤

From the point of "When I come home to you" line I always get chills up and down my spine, the power and the feeling is just so amazing. His breath control and interpretation make Sinatra and the others look like amateurs, and they would be the first to admit that. Tony had 20 Grammys in his life time...I like Sarah's hair today...
I sang “Fly Me To The Moon” and nailed it last year at a karaoke bar. Then I cockily tried to do this song and failed miserably. It takes incredible breath control to try and duplicate what Tony Bennett could do in his prime.
