Sammy Davis Jr. is an icon in the entertainment industry. No one else like him. The man could sing, dance, act, do impressions, do comedy, play multiple instruments, was on Broadway, in movies and numerous tv variety and comedy shows, played in nightclubs and in Vegas, was a member of "The Rat Pack". Sammy started out in Vaudeville with his dad and uncle at the age of 3 or 4 ( The Will Martin Trio)
I always tear up when I hear him do this song. Not just for the performance itself, but for what we have lost in the level of performing that you just don't see anymore. I agree with Patrick, he was the best of the Rat Pack!
Sammy Davis Jr. was an American singer, dancer, actor, comedian, film producer & television director. He was also part of the famous "Rat Pack", led by his friend Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Joey Bishop & Peter Lawford. He appeared in many movies, television & performed in Las Vegas. Sammy had some great songs such as "Hey There", "Something’s Gotta Give", "That’s Entertainment", "Me & My Shadow", I've Gotta Be Me", "The Candy Man", "Mr. Bojangles", "Birth Of The Blues" etc.
Thanks for doing this reaction. Sammy was a great entertainer who began his career at 3 years old. What I remember most is being over at my friend’s house playing about 60 years ago and his mother had the record player on and Sammy started singing What King of Fool Am I. I stopped dead in my tracks and listened to the whole thing and then asked my friend’s mother who that was who sang that song. That was the first time I heard of Sammy Davis Jr. It made such a huge impact on me that I remember it to this day more than 60 years ago. RIP Sammy, you were one of a kind!
I had the privilege of sitting front row at a jazz concert featuring the Ron Carter Quartet. He is the most recorded jazz bassist in history. That is not also counting his studio work on rock albums. At the end of the concert after the encore he stated that people should recognize Sammy Davis Jr. as the greatest entertainer of the 20th century. I almost leaped up in his face, applauding.
I actually heard this song the first time as a little girl from Billy Joel. I loved it always. As an adult when I heard and watched it from Sammy Davis Jr. I cried and it became my new fave version of the song. Masterful, touching, and impressive. It’s really nice to see someone who sees it for what it is.
Your level of respect for this song is duly noted I have seen people reacting to his performance and this by far is the best reaction, you've got yourself a new follower here.
This was one of Sammy's signature songs, and was the highlight of his shows. Sammy was the consummate performer, he sang and danced equally well. As a member of the 'Rat Pack', he hung out and performed with Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Peter Lawford. They often 'crashed' each other's shows, which turned out to be very funny hijinks.
Watching you watch this… Beautiful❤️ In The Ghetto was originally brought to Sammy. He said I can’t sing this song- I don’t know how to, I never lived this way. But I know who has… and it was Sammy who recommended the song be given to his friend Elvis Presley. Selfless artists in any genre are nearly w/o exception also the most amazing artists. Sammy Davis Jr for example. Thank You for reacting to this! Stay safe & love much💖 Cheers!
He was a little before my time but thanks to my Mum watching old films/shows I came to very much appreciate his (and others of his ilk) talents. They certainly don't make such all round entertainers these days! Absolutely wonderful!
Sammy did what he did best entertain. Will ten hag manage to maje Utd do what they did in the 90s? Lol. So far not likely lol Im cr7 fan so i follow him n wish his best always. So im no man u fan but i do feel bad. Its seeing a giant die. Too bad. Those owners are cancer. Hala madrid por eso deben aprender de nosotros xD Anyway Im drunk salud Long live sammys memory And rnr and football ⚽️

Sammy Davis jr.was the greatest entertainer that ever lived.
Back in the day when songs told storys you could probably read without music and the still made some sort of sence

The Ultimate Performance from one of our Untimate Performers.
Just pure class, quality and talent. Don’t get this much nowadays with reliance on technology……. Certainly no auto tune for him! Absolute legend!
There will never be anyone with more class or talent do this song.
A TRUE entertainer. I had such a crush on him in the early 70's.

Didn’t he sing The Candy Man too? Imagine my surprise when I found out as an adult that The Candy Man wasn’t about candy!
I seem to never tire of watching this. Watched it three times in the last two weeks.

I'm glad I love this.
Now that is entertainment! Loved it.
Sammy was a very special person. 😊
One of a kind -- one of the best and the best of the Rat Pack. This was so nostalgic -- Thanks Lyle!
It was kool seeing someone ALLOW themselves to experience a performance and accept it as art - without the typical “it was better/worse than so&so…”
Great reaction sir
GOAT!
I have yet to see someone do a Sammy Davis Jr reaction without a smile on their face. And do you think MJ stole that pose at the end from Sammy?
Very nice rendition! I grew up hearing the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band sing this sing, a country band, and it always gave me chills.
Sam was the man 😊.

I wouldn’t call this country .
Standard Robbie Williams swing when you’re winning has this on it . Swing doesn’t feel right either , it’s a standard .
Patrol Nation, please correct the spelling of this man's name. It should read, "Sammy Davis Jr."
Done. Thank you
Let me introduce you to some Pakistani music. Check out COKE STUDIOS season 14. Thank me later
I'm not sure if your comment started him down the Coke Studios rabbit hole but thank you
