In US news and current events today, Rashida Tlaib called out
the 2020 census for 'erasing’ people like her.
The U.S. Census occurs every 10 years. Census data helps allocate
more than $675 billion of federal funding to states and communities each year.
Watch Rep. Tlaib's call out of the inaccurate and discriminatory census here to Steven Dillingham, Director of the U.S. Census Bureau. Rep. Rashida Tlaib questions the lack of representation of middle eastern and north African identities aka MENA.

@@hayreddinbarbarossa661 I understand that it has a lot to do with saving face and yes, in layman's terms to the public, the blanket term is they're all politicians.
The public is more interested in politics than before since we're seeing with our own eyes the injustices and games they like to play.
Enough people who can speak up more we might have a chance to slow em down. The government should be for the people and even the people themselves in the government. It's bad that we have people disagreeing on things that don't directly effect their health and well being. People think being equal requires people to give up freedoms yet being equal is the idea that we have those opportunities still there for everyone without barriers. Economics is another thing. The way I see it, no matter the -isms, it all will come crumbling due to one person messing it up for all of us.

Middle Easterners are not "invisible". The fact is, ME is not a race or physical description. MEs can and do, in fact, racially come in White, Black, and Mixed/Mulatto/Mongoloid/Redbone/Yellowbone (i.e. Brown), just like everybody else. This whole argument ain't even about being "visible" vs. "invisible"! It's about certain people wanting more than equal acknowledgement! And, just to drop a knowledge bomb on y'all - "Arab" derives from the Semitic root "ereb" which means "mixed multitudes". This means mixed across the board as in ethnically, nationally, and racially mixed. In ancient times, very large numbers of both Blacks (Hamites), Mediterranean-Whites (Semites), and some Nordic-Whites (Japhethites). From the mixing of these, came the modern-day Middle Easterner. Some are predominantly White. Others are predominantly Black. While a whole lot of others still, are Mixed all the way from one end of the spectrum to the other. But, Arab/Muslim/Middle Eastern/Southwest Asian, and Asian in general are not races in and of themselves.

As someone who is more educated than you and everyone involved with the census its much more likely the changes were lost with transition between trump and obama. Human forgetfulness nothing more, nothing less. Running the census is quite stressful. If i were the president, id probably just let the previous person run it because of the cost to constantly training someone new and hoping they get it right. Trump can only organize people from a high level setting, small details like this is his flaw. Whenever I look at my student profile on my colleges portal website I have to see that it says “white” under my name and that has always bothered me. Me and the rest of the Middle Eastern, Arab, and North African students are being misrepresented and lumped into the white population of our school. This leads to less accurate statistics in terms of our schools diversity and even less scholarships available based on us being minorities, simply because we were not given an option to make ourselves known. And the Mediterranean was a bridge between people for millennia. By white I think the census means Caucasian people of which middle easterners certainly are a part of. I’m not treated like a white person and I’m not a white person so why would I describe myself as white? It’s just odd to go by an ethnicity that isn’t your own. Although we are a very diverse group (with diverse facial features like you’ve said), most MENA are varying shades of brown. The white label just isn’t accurate ethnically, culturally, or even physically for many MENA people.

You can't blame us for wanting to take our identity back. Second, the decision of people one hundred to two hundred years ago shouldn't be the standard to which I live my life today.

No, not really. When the Constitution and bill of rights were written,it was quite obvious they were only talking about white men, and for many years, that is what the US government followed. The Constitution and Bill of Rights have since been reevaluated to to reinclude clauses that banned slavery, etc and include all races and both men and women.
The same with the decision of making Arabs white: it needs to be either thrown out or reevaluated.
