    Dude, excellent video! For the first 5 minutes of it, I was telling my girlfriend that the guitar in the video was my actual guitar lol. I have a 1970 Yamaki, no. 115. It has a split in the bridge saddle, which of course means the intonation is way out. Action is too high, but I can fix that. How do I fix the split in the bridge? I had the same problem with my 1973 Epiphone, I put Les Paul hardware on it, fixed the problem, but now it has no tone, I know, that was a dumb ass move.

    Thank you for your video, just bought a 1973 12 string deluxe and am waiting for it to be delivered from Japan. Hopefully it sounds as good as yours!

    初めまして。
    僕も全く同じものを使っています。71年製です。ゼロフレット仕様がかっこいいです。
    過去にネックが折れてしまったのですが、修理して使っています。
    この映像と同様にペグの修理も自分でしました。
    同じようなことをして大切に使われている方がいると知って嬉しいです。

    Well, what do you know... I have a Yamaki Deluxe Folk, No. 118. Has the original truss rod cover, but the bridge appears to have been modified.

    On the subject of acoustics, have you tried D'Addario's new strings, the XS'? Fantastic things.

    • @PinetopJackson
      @PinetopJackson  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I haven't...and this is the first time I've used any D'Addario's in years...I usually just put on the cheapest strings I can possibly find...
      But I knew I wanted something nice on this one!

    Hi I have a Yasuma Custom Model 230.. looks very similar, would you know if mine was mine possibly made in the same factory?

    • @PinetopJackson
      @PinetopJackson  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Neale!
      Yasuma and Yamaki are not related at all.
      However, a quick Google search for Yasuma has me intrigued... people talking about how identical they are to Martin...I even saw a story (I'll call it an urban legend) about U.S. customs agents disfiguring the headstocks of Yasuma's at the port, to protect American property values or something 😆
      I'd love to see photos of your Yasuma!
      If you're okay to share, you can find me on Facebook or Instagram under Pinetop Jackson

      @@PinetopJackson Cool thanks for the reply.. I picked it up at a pawn shop for 400 Rands (South African) which is about 28USD, not an expert but pretty sure back, sides and top are all solid wood. The headstock says K. Yasuma & Co and Newance underneath, funny thing it is in the same font as the Martin Headstocks. Will send some pics tomorrow when get back from down the Coast.

    How is the low end bass response on these? Also is it a loud guitar or more on the mellow side ?

    Aloha Braddah, that last scene on the dock looks like someplace I’ve been to in Arkansas. Mahalo nui loa for sharing your time.

      That fishing dock is in Washington state, about 20 min south of Seattle. I called the Pacific Northwest home for 10 years. It was wonderful, but kept getting more & more expensive. Recently moved to Detroit...loving it so far!

    How wonderful to see this classic so lovingly restored! I have one too and the tuner on mine in the exact place as yours is also loose and the top is gone exposing the gear....do you advise replacing the entire tuner or just keeping it since it is part of the original? it looks bad but I could live with I suppose if it keeps the historical integrity of the instrument intact.

    • @PinetopJackson
      @PinetopJackson  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Marlette!
      The tuner should work fine without the cover, and even though it looks a little ugly, it'd be the type of ugly I love 😆
      If it was mine I would keep it as is.
      If you want to swap it out, please make sure to find a replacement that fits exact, so you don't have to make any new holes to install it.
      And if course keep the original in a bag, in a drawer somewhere you won't lose it...so that if the need arises, you can always return it to original.

    Брат, купил себе точно такую Yamaki 1972 года выпуска, подскажите пожалуйста оптимальный размер струн для нее,11-52 слишком толсто?

    • @osamabinladen824
      @osamabinladen824 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yamaki recommends light to extra-light gauge on their dreadnought acoustic guitars!

    I have the same exact model YM Deluxe Folk 115. My dad got it for me 2nd hand from Nagoya. True treasure. PS, it still has the original rod cover :D Although, on mine, the bridge is bent leaning towards the frets. Maybe because of its age? I mean it still plays really good, it just bothers me when I look at it lol i can send the pics via email or something

    • @PinetopJackson

      Awesome! Bummer about the bridge lifting... I've seen that on old guitars before. I'd love to see pics! You can email askusedguitars@gmail.com Thanks for reaching out!

    Wow, it’s amazing that the low E has been held in place even though the bridge pin has broken off.

      I was worried it'd be hard to get out, that I'd have to get a mallet inside the soundhole to beat it out 😆 But just pushing with my finger from the inside got it out easily enough

    Great guitars! Paul Simon sure seems to think so.

    • @PinetopJackson
      @PinetopJackson  ปีที่แล้ว

      They are fantastic guitars, but I don't know of Paul Simon ever playing them. He played Yamaha acoustics live back in the day, but not Yamaki, to my knowledge anyway. His bass player though, Bakithi Kumalo used a fretless Washburn bass that was made by Yamaki...you hear it on "You Can Call Me Al!"

    I just got SN#112 out of a junk bin in a recycling shop in Okinawa made in 1970 - looks like the date is actually Dec 23rd, 1970. It's in need of some TLC but looks like a pretty solid guitar.
