I solder every two sections of flex track on the work bench (including feeders). I also use small 'alligator' clips fastened on either side of where the solder is applied, to act as heat sinks, and avoid damaging plastic ties.
I'm building an N scale layout using Peco code 55 flex track and it's almost IMPOSSIBLE to join track using the rail joiners. I have had enough of skinned fingers and bent joiners trying to do the job, so my solution will be to solder the rails without any joiners. I also use a pen style flex pen - no messy flux paste - good to go. 👍
Can't believe that you actually produced a tutorial with a filthy tip on your soldering iron, no wonder it took ages to tin. Didn't even wipe it on a wet sponge in push into a metal brass coil. Not really the way to learn how to solder . . . more how not to solder.

You tin the tip to clean the impurities off of the tip of your soldering iron. You should dab the tip of the iron on a wet sponge to clean the tip.
You should pick up solder made for electronics.
What gives you soldering?
Your solder already HAS flux in it....thats what rosin core means, external flux isnt needed. Oh BTW....clean your tip
train track rail isnt wire. it does need the extra flux

At least I made an attempt. I have gotten much better at it, since. Some people can't do anything but bash other people. Have a wonderful day.
