I am a lefty and have often tried knitting and given up. No one tells you how to do it and I have to do everything backwards. I had to adapt a weird style. I hold the needle with the stitches in my left hand like you do but instead of moving the needle we are putting the stitches on like you, I lodge that needle on my leg or ribs and move the needle in my left hand lol. It allows me to have the control I need from my left hand while being able to follow right handed instructions.

Thank you for the great video. Just finished and LOVE IT and I am most def a "finisher" fascinated how that worked and came together. Now where to wear it in 62 degrees in Sunny CA?? LOL!

If you do the Continental style, you don't have to let go of the needle when wrapping the yarn over the other needle. That's one of the reasons why I prefer the Continental style. For me it feels less "fiddly". Plus I'm left handed and I learned how to crochet long before knitting, so the Continental style just feels a little more natural to me than the English style does. But I'm very new to knitting so I'm still fairly sloppy with it. I really like shorter needles, the long ones drive me nuts so far. I recently tried a circular pair. I did not do well with that at all! I have decided to not bother with those for a while until I get a much better handle of knitting on straight needles first. So far I'm finding the purl stitch to be a major pain in the butt!

Should children start with using the larger needles and thicker yarn?

From personal experience, you shouldn't start a new knitter out with a "long tail cast-on" .....a regular slip on stitch is better and less intimidating until they've been knitting for a bit. Otherwise, this is very informative.

I didn't have any problem with it. The hardest part is judging how long to make the tail before you start the cast on. But as far as wrapping the yarn on, to me it was a piece of cake.

I had no problem with long tail cast on. It's the first cast on method I learned, & it's still my favorite to this day.

Haven't watched this yet but I want to know if this teaches Continental style or English? I don't want to bother with English. I'm a crocheter so I want to learn Continental.

🖐🏽 Andi Herr just starting to crochet and catching some tube videos to knit now!! 😀
And I’m thinking “will this be weird and a mess at first too?!?”😂😂. Crocheting 🧶 a chunky blanket with a 8.00MM meddle and another I’m going by hand. So much fun so far!!
