- An insane best-of-5 series of top level StarCraft 2. In this video I cast a series of games that was played in Archon Mode in SC2 with Serral, Reynor, Elazer and Lambo controlling the Zerg, and Clem, Kelazhur, souL and Harstem controlling the Terran. In Archon Mode multiple players can control one base at a time, deviding up the tasks and units to optimise micro and macro.

The "Rock paper scissor" is about who can control the units for Harassment.
Oops! There’s an error in the second and fourth game. Apparently they switched colours in game two and four and I didn’t realise it when editing in the names afterwards. It is indeed Serral, Lambo, Reynor and Elazer playing the Zerg and Clem, souL, Kelazhur and Harsten playing Terran. My bad!

Wow that was fun to watch :-). Maybe you could switch a bit to 1 players (if that's possible) view to find out who is doing what, that would be a nice important

Fun fact, in first game everyone typed 'rock', then before clicking enter Harstem deleted it and typed 'paper', that's why his 'paper' was delayed.

This match was very fun to watch from Harstem's point of view, you can watch it on his TH-cam channel. One of the games it was pretty hilarious watching one of the best Protoss player's microing just one viking killing map critters.

@@carbonbeaker409 unrestricted alpha star stomps all humans because it has infinite APM on all units and micros everything simultaneously
@@IR-xy3ij You could still restrict it to something that the pros could actually match. Together they were hitting 2k+ pretty frequently. Know effective APM is gonna be lower but could still probably limit alpha star to something like 1k and have it be a good match.

The two different views of both Lambo and Harstem are really awesome and fun to watch. Would recommend watching it also. The banter/strategy talk between the players is awesome.

I love how you can hear how lowkos voice go into fanboy mode a couple times in the vid. Its heart warming that he still gets so excited about this great game.

Great games! I'd love to see more games like this. Imagine a Protoss game with Zest and Parting in the same team, that would be absurd.
I finally realized, why it is called Archon mode :D Took me a while.
I just finished Subnautica and was thinking "wow what a great game, gonna be hard to match that feeling with whatever I do next" and then I see all-pro Archon, and *then* I see *eight* pro Archon and yeah let's go.
Subnautica is an amazing game indeed

"Unfortunetly" the races are balanced for 1v1 (2 players) - and that includes the how much attention one can put to wichever task.
Maybe mirror matches would be better? - Just imagine 8 player TvT .. still not sure if it would be incredible or terrible :)

this case alone wouldn't be enough to conclude balance issues. that would downplay the excellent teamwork done by the terran team (see harstem's pov) and would neglect the disarray from the zerg side (see lambo's pov)
Yes, but zerg is generally more demanding of divided attention than any other race, with creep spread, larva injections, early casters, numerous speedy units benefitting from good spreading etc.
@@ineednochannelyoutube5384 Honestly a more standard zerg late game probably would have benefited the most from having 4 players with all those potential spellcasters. The problem is getting to those units when terran's most mirco-able units are going to be the marines they get so early (and aren't really going to want to transition out of).

Nice seeing a different mode and it´s very interesting. 4th game was very nice; the others quickly ended up before getting exciting for real.

Serral playing Archon is what I actually wanted for the longest time, thanks so much man for casting this!
Some highlights from that game: Rock Paper Scissors was played for the first harassment group control rights. Not one guy microes supply depot but three! "Pyotr!" "They probably told Elazer to stop losing stuff, that's why they started to play better!" - Harstem.
It's crazy to watch something like this because it makes you realize how much of the meta still is left to figure out and it's almost like looking 10 to 20 years into the future if the balance never changed. Because of the insane micro from the terrans, banelings become much less useful and zergs standard openings become weaker. You had these insane splits and medivak hot pickups. The Terran units are just infinitely more microable at least in the mid and early game, I was kind of hoping to get to see some crazy viper and infestor stuff but we just never got that far unfortunately. Almost feels like the zergs should have done some ravager openings to counter some of the micro tricks. Would love to see an archon meta develop to see what the ultimate game winning comps look like when a player has 2000+ apm.
Thats because the terran race is so good if you can micro properly, in fact in a Terran vs Any other race scenario considering that each part is equally good, terran is most likely to win.
Last night me and my girl were fighting and I used a classic lowko line to make things better I said “we judge others by their actions and ourselves by our intentions”

I'd love to see a 4v4 Archon mode show match like this to kick off Homestory Cup! They could get some kind of bonus prize money. Or maybe have it as a filler/consolation prize opportunity during the last rounds to give the final contenders a break while their recently defeated rivals entertain the crowd.
Fun fact: serral was only controlling the 3 queen during the hole game in game 1
I hope the players enjoyed doing this because this is fascinating to watch. I would love to see them working out great team strat styles. Doing micro that is mechanically impossible to do for an individual.
Okay.. I mist not be the only one being crazy about this archon gamemode! Is it rare that these pro gamers play these? Cause this is soooo damn awesome and it would be extra fun if Lowko casted more of these cause these are SO GOOD!!!

can remember a mode kinda like this back in the day with sc1 multiplayer. me and my buddies would pick different races and then build the bases of each up for a little fun starting from just the one base. main person got that as the starting base and then you'd get one worker of each of the other races picked.

Epic archon mode is an understatement. It could be the start of a new era, hopefully. Hopefully because whoever profit a from this would rather have 4 matches rather then 1. But a team round robin would be truly legendary. In single combat each player battles each other for 2 points a win. And a team match worth 5 point a game.

I'm pretty sure that Harstems the one putting down the artwork in the Terrans bases. After watching his games I've come to understand how much Harstem loves to put those down in the beginning of the games

Okay, Lowko. Hear me out.
We make a special oversized map, like 30% larger than Simulacrum. The main base gets two bases. Players can mix it however they want. We get 6 players to each team.

Harstem's channel has the same game with all the team voice chat on it, it's fkning hilarious and explains why some of the, er, odd moves occur in the game.
Ok, we need to take this to the next level. Make give each team one of each race, and maybe 5 or 6 players? Let them divy things up and actually get some practice in... this could straight up be the future of starcraft. Letting each player focus on their strengths and work together under one commander? This could be some straight up battle school shit from Ender's Game. We need this.

Archon mode is fun for the fact that micro can be focused on heavily compared to single player mode.

Harstem was making calls on build order and microing Vikings, drops and trolling his teammates in game 3 when they built 2 liberators instead of Vikings.
