Nicely done Bill! Glad to see a song over 40 years old still being played today. Grand funk is my fav group of all time and Don Brewer was a much better drummer than he got credit for.
Nice playing I am a very young drummer I haven't practiced playing this song yet but I don't have a cow bell so I would like to know we're you got yours
+DrummerDude 2735 No cow bell no problem, use the bell of a cymbal. Oh, and he is most likely using an LP cow bell. Lots to choose from, go to a music store and listen to them. Some sustain longer, some less, some higher some lower, what ever you like, that is what you should get.
Thanks! I tend to just play the more interesting parts of songs exactly note for note, the rest of the song usually is improv, so hopefully its close enough to the real thing to learn from!
You didn't play it note for note. But I bet Brewer didn't play it exactly the same way twice either. That's the beauty of drumming. If you don't completely get off track, or play to busy or too relaxed, just serve the music, you're all good!
tmont007 agreed. It’s not in my blood to play every a beat the same every time. When I try to replicate the exact beat of every song on drum sheet music it literally kills my soul and I lose my enjoyment of drumming. I understand trying to learn a hard fill or important part down to the exact strokes but when it comes to the grooves in between, let your creative flag fly!!!
Your Absolutely right John !! I'm sure the "youngster" means well but if your gonna cover a rock classic/anthem you BETTER do it justice by treating it as so! Not just what you say are the interesting parts!!
+Jack Wyatt The bell worked, and I like how he alternated between the bell of the cymbal, and playing it normally. I really don't think he wanted to play the exact same way Don Brewer did. He kept the feel, and that is what is most important, the music had the same feel.
Great job! I'm getting ready to learn this song for my band. I'm curious though, I noticed several fills that you by-passed. Just wondering why you chose not to do them? :)
Really, really good job. Not note-for-note, but awfully close. My only criticism is your snare drum sounds like a wood block, but that might've been the recording. Brewer's snare sounds tight but with a deeper tone.
I think the snare sounds full, bright and tight. Serves the music. I don't agree with your assessment, but we're all different people with different ears. I don't think Bill was trying to mimic the GFRR Don Brewer mind body and soul the way some people like to try to do with Bonham. That kind of obsession is kind of puzzling to me. But again... we're all different.
@@tmont007 he should maybe listen to the song again. too much on the snare when he should have been going to the toms. takes away the whole concept of what brewer conceptualized when he did it in my opinion.
nice job will not knock anyone for trying.....a lot heavier on cow bell..... and like the other guy asked what about the fills?.....not being played in the song means you have a lot of home work to do to play the song 80% Keep working hard ......you will nail it nice sound!!!! over all..... my honest opinion= B- in effort over all.....just my opinion as a fellow drummer.......
Bill great drums....unfortunately you grooved yourself into a bad habit. The continuous double cymbal strikes get very monotonous when listening to you. Break that bad habit....I had the same one and got tons on complaints because of it....Just passing it forward.
Remembering when this song debuted, it was very popular believe me! You did an ass kicking job playing it! Thanks for the memories brought back 😉👍
Thanks I appreciate it! The song is a classic for sure.
I watch drummers all the time and you are absolutely fantastic!!!
Rock on brother! Solid!
What a great drum cover nicely played wow.
Let us not forget Don Brewer sang lead vocals on most of this song while playing drums.
Live he does, they didn’t record that way though, he recorded drums first then sang
Very impressive Bill.

kick ass young man, lovely!!!!!
Great job, bill
Perfection!
that drop into cowbell rocks so hard hahahaha

Surprised by how good those B8's sound. Not that the Sabian B8's are bad cymbals, they're not. Nice mic/mix job. Kit sounds good!
phenomenal!
Great job!
Great job! Thanks for sharing!
I am with Don and you are awesome,,,,,
Mate,Great cover,this is a great track I remember from your dads days,haha.Good job,thanks.

awesome sounded great! This is definitely going to help me when I start learning this song ^_^
of course you have to sing it along with playing just like Don Brewer
Your Absolutely right John !! I'm sure the "youngster" means well but if your gonna cover a rock classic/anthem you BETTER do it justice by treating it as so! Not just what you say are the interesting parts!!
Wow.
Intro good.. Overplaying a tad..missing signature riffs...pretty damned good over all...Nothin' but a Party...Wicker
Good intro but where you have played the bell of the ride there should be 8th note hi-hats driving through the chorus

gd job

U r an awesome drummer nice job son keep up d good work .!!
@thepatient678 Thanks man!
Makes one wonder what Don Brewer could have done with Neal Peart’s drums....
More cowbell please
Gentlemen, I have a fever. And the only solution is MORE COWBELL. I've GOT TO have MORE COWBELL!
(Ferrell): I'd be doing this band and myself a disservice if I didnt play the HELL out of this cowbell!
Pretty good! Your bass is super duper full though, and it sounds kinda weird. Great cover tho!
GrizDrummer25 Yes they didn't have the best close mics back then
Is that mom filming lol
*Cowbell intensifies*
Anything from cream

Too stiff. Watch Don Brewer. He hits hard but there is still a smooth grace about it.
Double bass is cheating
I was thinking the same, but at least it sounds good!
There is no such thing as cheating when you are actually drumming unless you have a machine thats drumming for you.
Sounds like you're playing over another drummer? or you have really bad camera people.
Use single pedal. That is the way it’s done
@JordyboyTheGreat haha yea I do a better job playing on real drums...
Don Brewer told me that he and you have a relationship. Not cool
Bill great drums....unfortunately you grooved yourself into a bad habit. The continuous double cymbal strikes get very monotonous when listening to you. Break that bad habit....I had the same one and got tons on complaints because of it....Just passing it forward.
Raymond Pontremoli you are really wrong. Everything in this cover is absolutely perfect. No bad habits here.
