Deep Purple - Burn - Drum cover (With exact studio fills) - Best Version
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 1 ม.ค. 2014
- I have been wanting to do THIS ONE for a long time now. The first time I heard it I went ''Holy $%@&* wow!'' Ian Paice chapeau mon ami... as we say.
I will admit to having been studying this one for a couple of months now and believe me when I say I have studied it to death making sure I have the exact fills and nuances from the recording. So much so that this was take 2 (out of 5) of my recording it. :) Proof that doing your homework is worth it.
I hope I have done honor to this amazing drummer and band. And hope it will help you to learn this tune on drums. Subscribe to my channel and please share this video to everyone. Thanks
P.s. Why is there no more music like this these days? Sad really...
Cheers.

u kitting...-
You make it look so easy
pro tip: you can watch series at Flixzone. Me and my gf have been using it for watching loads of movies lately.
Best cover of this song I've seen. Your fills and rolls are extremely crisp and precise
Thanks :)
Finally after 40 years...I see how the magic is done!
ahahah. I am glad you enjoyed it sir. All the best!
most people miss the bass drum pattern on the riff, bass-snare-bass-snare-bass-snare-bass,bass-snare-baas,bass-snare-bass,bass-snare-bass,bass-snare-crash, but you nailed it
I am not to sure what you mean but thanks for noticing :P Cheers!
F.a.n.t.a.s.t.i.c
And yes, Paice has the best "flow" of all rock drummers I've heard
Agree !! He is ESSENTIAL to Purple's sound.
Excellent! Watching you play made me feel like I was 14 yrs old listening to Burn for the 50th time! Thanks
exactly! the paice rolls are missed by most -you nailed it!
Thanks Sean! I had studied it for months before even attempting it. Cheers!
Hi Denis, i.m.o. this is the only version here on YT that really does the original justice. It's just exactly perfect. Hats off to you. I'm also a drummer and always found paicey's performance on that song not only mind blowing, but simply unplayable. I do not mean this only from a technical point of view, to me it's the combination of technique, feel, time and creativity all together here. Attacking Coverdales singing during the verses (!!) with those drum fills is... just CRAZY :-) When I see you playing here to the original I'm beginning to think something like... "okay, this really makes sense and it looks
like it IS playable..." - then, I take a seat on the drum chair... and immediately, I'm beginning to recognise... oh no, it's STILL unplayable :-)... so, finally deep respect from me to both of You and Ian :-) Richard
and the audio quality is out of this world!
Perfect comment!! Everything you said is exactly so! This song is so awesome,5tt so outstanding, so out of anything similar that I thought we will not have a chance to see how it was really recorded in studio by THE TIME R Paice!!! In interviews he allways talking about 3 times he tried to make a good drumming for "Burn"!! And one of those 3 was just great!! IT WAS THIS ONE VERSION, AND IT WORKED PERFECTLY FOR SONG!!! So job for Ian Paice on Burn(song, not all LP) was over!! And this is the first time anyone played it almost like then in the recording studio!!! VERY, VERY GOOD, AND ALL THE BEST FOR YOUR WORK MAN!!! CONGRATULATIONS AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR GREAT VIDEO!!!
Perfect!
Excellent cover of the best song ever made!
Relaxed playing. Good stuff.
Dude!!! You make this look sooooooo easy.
You Sir, are the KILLER of other peoples ambition.
Ahahahah. Thank you for the kind words. I also the first one to do this cover as it was recorded. Can't believe it's been 10 years already. Cheers!
This is the track that turned me on to Deep Purple and Ian Paice in particular as a young teenager. Now at the grand old age of 58 I have decided to spend the rest of 2017 to trying toe emulate my hero and this video will be played many times this year until I am ready to submit my recording of the greatest drum track ever recorded, thank you Dennis, you nailed it.
Ahh thank you very much Brian! I hope it helps you achieve your dream. It is never too late. Cheers!
Well, as great as this is, I give 'Highway star' and Ian Gillan the edge...Robert at 65.
Perfecto!!! Denis, te felicito por tus grandes cualidades. Tenes un gran oido musical.👏👏👏
¡Muchas gracias! Es muy apreciado :)
Una de mis canciones favoritas de Deep Purple, gran Bateria , GRAN COVER....
Simply Incredible! Loved it...
Oh my goodness! Your level of relaxation is glorious--what a masterly job of calm command. Drumming perfection: my chapeau is off to you, monsieur.
So that's how it's done? WOW! Fun to watch, Merci ...
Firstly, what a frickin amazing job Ian Paice did in inventing the track in the first place, given that he basically just jammed the damn thing, and secondly, what a frickin amazing job you've done recreating it! Wow, near enough to perfect, Denis. Bravo!
Fantastic-O! Must be a great stress reliever to play like that!
Great , thanks to all of this video I learned the steps and fill What was previously impossible for me to Play ! , Thanks again
It's a great cover, one of the purest techniques I've ever heard.
Wow, thank you! much Appreciated :)
i have been trying to play this song for a year and i still cant... but still, AWESOME
Excellent! Great job! Nailed the fills and transitions! Best version of Burn on the drums next to Ian by far!

Thanks Martin. Practice being solid and you'll get there! Cheers!
Absolutely spot on my friend!!! You rock!!!
There are drummers, there are GOOD drummers, and there are gifted drummers! None of the above apply to you, buddy! Simply brilliant! Thanks for posting this!
"Burn" a bercé mon adolescence ; Super bien joué !
Awesome, I have been trying to figure this one out for years, GREAT drumming!
Parabéns, ótima apresentação, otimo video. Você merece o Deep Purple e a bateria merece você. Viva o rock' n roll.
OMG! This is freakin' awesome! Thank you very much for this cover. It's one of the best exact covers on youtube IMHO. These fills are amazing. Did you know them by yourself?
Awesome!
Absolutely best ever cover.......you are Ian Paice Dude......amazing cover
Great job. I'm a guitarist but have 3 brothers and they all play drums. They would all be impressed.
It was worth the effort you put into it.
That was great, brilliantly played! You make it look so easy too. Also, I can't get over how nice that kit sounds.
Terrific job! I got to meet Ian Paice a few years ago and told him the studio version of Burn was my favorite drumming on a studio song ever. You did it total justice.
the best drumming song ever!!Thnaks thats awesome!!
Great Cover! & Fills! Will be doing this Drum Cover Today.
Wonderful dude!! that was a fantastic cover!!
great! nice fills and perfect foot technique!
Excellent job! Goes to show...it’s the drummer!! No need for some astronomical drum kit to impress. The era of Burn displays some of Ian Paice’ best drumming.
Very nice!
Still enjoying your work 2 years on from first posting a comment (redundant so deleted it) about unavailability. As Paicey has said himself his stated influences are swing and the big band sound; which really come through in these faithfully captured, blistering set of multi-fills or, for some, mini-solos.
Couldn't have said it better myself! So true! No pro tools here and it is refreshing to hear! Cheers!
Man, that was fantastic...well done. Your sound is very nice too. Its a difficult piece, I have been trying to do it for years. (without success) . This is probably the best drum cover I have seen.
Ian Paice is Fab.
Looks so easy and effortless. But not when I try this. Brilliant :-D
Deep Purple lives. Respect your talent.
wonderfull, bravissimo, superbe, impressionnant... merci. !!!!!!!..
Played with perfect timing and precision. Very good.
Excellent job!
God bless brother, your cover neither Ian himself cannot play it anymore as precise as you did!!!
Wow, thank you! Again, I studied this piece for months!! Thank you again :)
YEE-HAA!!! Fantastic fills. I'm 5 years late but I had to give you a shout out!
Ahh I'm late answering back. :P Cheers!
Dennis...amazing dynamics and accents...killer cover...
Good job. Epic drumming from Paice to come up with this and NOT sound like he's over playing.
It looks lot easier as it sounds.Great jobb,I am very impressed!
This is just awesome as hell!!!!!!!!!!!
Outstanding !!! You hear songs and its all about a stupid vide about what i dint know, what i always want to see how you do what you do. Thanks for this !! I would love to see alot more of your playing Deep Purple songs ..Best of Luck !
Wow, thank you so much. This one took me awhile to get it right. But, I am happy with the result. I am glad you enjoyed it as well. Cheers!
that was a tremendous effort!!! LOVE The snare work etc . IVe been working up a few DP songs to cover as well and when i got to Burn, i was like.....hmm maybe ill start with Knocking at your back door....lol.....YOU KILLED IT HERE!!

Amazing acuracy !!! You are a great drummer!!!
WOW! I mean.......just.....holy shit....WOW! Dude, you nailed it! This is by far my most favorite Deep Purple song...Ian Paice has some serious competition....awesome job!
i always thought, just by listening to rock bands, that Paice was among the few drummers who use the drum cymbals to their full potential. now I see why....
He is a great drummer :)
It's been 10 years since this was posted but hands down the best Burn drum cover I've witnessed and heard. Thinking and wondering about all the time you have put into practicing this to perfection, I am amazed! Good job Denis!
Wow, thank you so much! I did put a lot of work in this one. Thanks for the compliment!

THIS WAS THE GREATEST DRUM COVER I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE! GOOD FUCKING JOB MAN!
Outstanding! Thank you for the inspiration!
I just started learning my second instrument (drums)
and I hope to do this song one day too.
P.S. you're so right about not having music like this today...
although i think real rock musicians are still to be found. And they
learn theory, harmony, composition, rhythm, vocal development
and they understand music of skill, keeping the flame alive.
Excellent, brill band and john lord 🎹always reminds me of my late father keyboard player😢who was also named John.
Amazin performance dude !!
good job man...big shoes to fill
Brilliant job bro. Just goes to show though how awesome Pacey really is to have come up with those drum parts at only 26 years old.
Keep rockin'
O M G!!!
Just Great!!!
Very Very Good, so close to the record ! Nice job from an early Deep Purple fan.
Grandissimo, grazie a questo video ho imparato tutti i passaggi e i bridge che prima erano impossibili per me da suonare!, grazie ancora
Superb; there is nothing else to say!
thedrumdoctor your answer to the question why there is no music like this these days.....simple......'protools'. i am a producer/engineer and i prefer to record musicians who can actually play their parts on time and in tune, which is somewhat a rarity for the 20-something year olds playing in bands these days.-the musicians of the 60's -'70's era were quite accomplished at that age, and created many of their best works before they hit 30...if they even made it that far. complacency dictates that everything can be fixed/created in the workstation environment. despite the technology, it would be faster to learn to play this track right than to create it in protools....consequently it would never see the light of day in the modern studio environment. lack of touring/gigging experience is also a reality in todays music market and fewer and fewer bands have places to play for decent $, so there simply isn't an environment for young players to hone their skills in the same way as was possible a couple of decades ago. so a lot of commercial music these days is seriously "dunbed down' to morose dance beats and mindless repetitive patterns ...sad really....
