Blake you are quite the Horseman. You do a wonderful job with all the horses you work with. I love watching you with the horses. The horses really like your calmness and your attitude with them. Good job! Keep up the good work!
I am so SO impressed with your horsemanship skills young man. That’s exactly how I used to break yearlings for friends that I worked for years ago when I could do it. I love watching this and it’s so rewarding when the horse learns what you’re asking of them. Good job! I miss being able to do ground work with horses.
A few suggestions. Get a 6 ft whip with a long drop lash..Put the lariat up and use it for what it's intended, roping. Horses remember, if you ever have to lay a loop on that horse he is going to duck and run because you used it to drive him before. It will take a lot more work to get him to stop that as he learned it well today. Round pen work is better with a lunging whip or a flag whip. Second, consider getting a tractor in that pen and ripping up that hard ground. A soft footing is better for horses legs and feet, it builds muscle faster and it's a heck of a lot easier on you when you get dumped, That said, this stud is darn nice for a grade horse. Good confirmation and an excellent stride. He should be a pleasure to ride once he's quiet under saddle. He should bring you a good price when you decide to sell him. I would have him gelded soon before he starts getting really studdy, most likely he will do that this next spring as you have mares well within his scent range.
I understand your advice about not using a lariat in the round pen. I actually use to use a flag stick. I switched to the lariat a few years ago because it’s easier and something you use while riding. I ride with one and my horses are not shy of it smacking them or bumping them while in saddle. Yet when I do groundwork they still give to the pressure of it. I’m not saying it’s better or I have the answer.. just saying how it works for me😉
I think Blake is doing the right thing by using the lariat instead of a whip because of the way he can adjust the length. If you notice he is not using the lariat to drive the horse, he is driving the horse with his body language. The lariat is an extension of his arm to back up his command by body language. I've worked with a lot of horses that were lounged with a whip that didn't know how to go off of body language, they just ran from the whip. Personally I don't use any thing to drive the horse with except my body. I will use the tale of my lead rope if needed to disengage the hindquarters but not to get forward motion. With that said I believe there is a right way to use a whip or lariat and I feel Blake did a great job. The ground is a little hard for a long workout but horses need to learn how to carry themselves correctly and not rely on deep footing to keep from slipping. No offense ment to your advise but I thought I'd share my point of view.
Many ways to train young horses, a lot of it depends on what your training for and what you expect the horse’s job will be. Horses work off pressure, the more you get their feet moving and the more you keep their eye on you, the better the outcome. Fantastic, y’all are very blessed and your son is going to have a great life with all that your teaching him, in more ways than just breaking a colt. Those two are a great team, will go a long way together. Love the vids!
I personally love the lariat because it's in the extension of your arm you can reach out and get their feet moving without getting too close you're doing an awesome job you're getting his feet to move you are controlling him can't wait to see the rest God bless you and your family stay safe out there
Hi, Palmer family. I was in my glory watching this video. I feel like it was more footage and I loved every minute of it. I have learned to watch for the signs and, boy, when Rusty turned away from Blake in the beginning of the lesson, I said, "Uh-oh, that's not good." See, I really am learning. Now, what is a 59-year-old lady living in Northern Maine who doesn't live on a farm or have horses gonna do with these lessons? Absolutely nothing...hahaha, but because of my love for horses (and Blake), I find it so interesting and I'm captured. His name suits him. Good choice. I hope you are all having a great weekend. Take good care and, as always, stay well.
Another awesome video Palmer Family! This was enjoyable to watch Blake work with Rusty! He has definitely begun to submit to Blake working with him. I am looking forward to seeing you both working with Rusty further! This was genuinely satisfying to see! Have a Blessed weekend all! Mark in Iowa.
I so enjoy watching Blake work with the horses. It’s almost like a dance. Rusty is learning fast, who leads. Will be waiting on more to come. I hope everyone is getting back up to normal. Sounds like Alan still getting a little winded. It will just take a while. Blessings, Love & Hugs from Vicki in Ft. Worth, Texas 🇺🇸👍❤️🥰🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Ok i have to say this. Im so impressed with the way Blake handles the horses. Ive never seen him actually slap one of the horses with that rope. No matter what they do or dont do. Allan the first thing i noticed when you worked one horse was that you swatted him with the end of the rope. Im sure that is very normal, but i noticed that right away and always admire that Blake doesnt need to do that. Makes me think Blake is a horse whisperer. Hes so awesome with them. I dont have a horse although ive always admired them, so please dont take this as critism, it was just my observation. Keep shooting videos i love watching them.
Blake is amazing but he has actually learned all he knows from Alan. And alan may tap a horse with a rope but is actually very gentle too!! ❤️. It about like nudging a child with your hand on their back
Abini ya'a teeh (mornin) brothr man...I been watchg alot of da videos on da horses u hav nw... It's alwys gud 2 watch da videos & all da nice horses u guys hav/get... Da red roan stud/gelding horse im interested nw??? Idk if u still got da red roan???...
He is doing awesome. I have notice you guys seem to get a lot of Roans is that common in your area? What kind of cool down if any do you do after a day like that?
If you noticed at the end of the video Blake really dropped it down and notch when he was working him it was a lot slower and calmer and then he just took time in the pin rubbing him down
@@TheFarmonRoute66 Maybe Blake would enjoy watching how Klaus Hempfling calms horses - there are loads of clips showing his methods. He is great on teaching horse body language and subtle signals and how to mirror them. 'Think like a horse' Rick Gore is great for tips too, and really funny. They both love the playful spirit of the horse and make sure they keep that and have a true partnership with their humans. Love your videos!
I think Rusty is one of the best looking horses you have had. I would keep him as a stud registered or not. Alot of people only care about papers or color but others look for the overall look, temperament, movement. He's a good looking stud and I would breed my grade mares to him in a heart beat and I know several others who would also. BLAKE can make a really good horse out of him with enough time because he is very good with the horses even tho he is so young.
I like the way you guys explain why you are doing what your doing with the horses training.. those people that pay so much money for “professional trainers” ( IMO you guys are so much better)to help them don’t get these fundamentals. The basic how to communicate with the horse. I can watch Blake work for hours.. his timing for release is impeccable. Thank you guys for posting
He needs to stop nagging the horse with his lariat. When the horse turns in the way he wants, he continues to twirl the rope. It would be better if he relaxed his body after achieving his desired goal.
Exactly. Well put! I admire Blake’s persistence and he will learn along with this horse. Just a bit more release of pressure when the horse does the right thing would be great.
excellent work however if you will use a 5 foot stick with a flag he will get your signal more clear. Then stand still in the center and when he stops or tries to turn into the fence move then and correct him. When he faces you drop the stick on the ground so he doesn't think you want to move then approach. If he won't hold still circle more. You can communicate even better using a rope on the halter to give direction. When he will stand still with the lead line on then use the flag to desensitize
Cut stud is showing toughness in submitting....goes against the stud nature ...as it is to be dominate....this would go easier if waited longer after cut to let hormones to be less.....but Blake got it done anyway....good job
@@TheFarmonRoute66 for me I think one is good cause some adds are 5mins if you can't push the button .i went back to buying CDs cuz of adds it's so much better to listen to a hole album with no adds bought a hole stack of cds form my neighbor for 2$ each

How come your not keeping suzie 66? Are you keeping clementine?
WE MADE A TRADE WITH SUZIE YES WE PLAN ON KEEPING CLEMENTINE BECAUSE SHE IS NOT RELATED TO OUR STUD
Ohhh ok that’s fair haha
You're are doing a wonderful job with him. Love the name😃
Thanks so much and thank you for watching
Looking for what Amry Palmer calls "giving you two eyes"
Is Rusty up for sale yet?
Or have you already sold him?
Not yet
does licking of lips indicate relaxtion and submission?

It's a lot easier on your hands if you both wear a pair of leather work gloves.
Did I miss the Name????
Rusty, It was right at the end of the video I think
Love it 😍
Pretty calm for a stud. His "brain surgery" will make him a very desirable horse for sale with his size and color. Great project for an adult rider!
I forgot why I stopped watching your channel to many adds I had red roan I called him rooster
That’s great advice for us like how many ads do people normally put on her channel

Where do you live?
Too far
There are lots of Hancocks around here I thought maybe you lived close
No sir .
Don’t you have to walk him to cool him off and then rinse him off...?.... wish it were me doing the work...it’s great!,
Not always no
Just imagine the horse runs you over well thats karma
