@@BarrettHouser I just watched your video of putting the blanket on the pony!
I thought he did good he just needs work, time, and patience. I really like him.
0f all the critters you have bought lately he is a favorite. Everyone needs
A challenge once in a while. Boy is he one.
Great job im glad you took a chance with him we all need a chance in our lives sometime. Bet when he sheds out he'll be a nice looking horse.
Excited to see him when he slicks off!
You did a wonderful thing in buying this horse. After you’re done with him he will have a chance to have a good life!
I just started watching a few of yaLls videos, not sure how much experience you've got with horses, but I started with them at age 6 and never stopped. As a kid growing up you either saw me on a dirt bike or bareback on my old dirty draft. Loved my youthful days in summer and the small southern town I grew up in.. I started with the Mustang rescue and adoption my junior year in HS.. 1983.. I had horse sense and experience .. I had common sense as I was brought up by parents that allowed me to think for myself, figure out life without a constant chaperone, make mistakes, admit mistakes and learn from them.. to respect myself, elders and surrounding.. to not lie, cheat or steal and always give thanks to my Lord and Savior above. I was the kind of kid that could drive anything at age 12, could hang with adults or older crowd, I listened to my gut intuitions, never gave into pier pressure, never a follower but the leader of myself, I didn't care what anyone said or thought..I didn't have fear of things, trying new things, I wasn't a dare devil or tested my limits, I knew caution cause it came from inside of me, I can read animals and people, I knew what ever the situation was the only pain I'd feel was from my stupidity and carelessness, never be over confidence or comfortable. With all this said, my first Mustang came from Black Rock Nevada , he was a 2 yr old 4 weeks gelded. Already he stood 15.5 hands. At the end of this life's journey my Big Boy was 16.1 hands, 1388 lbs and solid as a rock. He was with me for 34 years, he was 35.5 years old and I was 51, only 3 sad years ago.. but like you, I had no fear of him and I knew even at my age 17, he was gonna be the one.. my mind set was, if I never ever rode him and did nothing but watch him graze and just be around him that was fine with me, I know I saved him from slaughter or starvation and that's why I did it.. just to save 1 and he was it.. of course after him and over the years I've had the pleasure of about a dozen more and helping others with the process, not all as good as my experience, but each are different and so are people. The thing is you had no fear, nothing to lose and none but yourself to prove anything too.. I like that attitude. So did Skunk. He felt it in you and believe me he respected you not submitted.. it's spiritual with them and I think you did good.. one suggestion.. they will run over you so never get to comfortable and some horses will cow kick, sideways, hurts like hell..also, you used your shed comb on his head and rear, those hurt sometimes even on broke horses.. try a different brush to deshed. But you still did a great job
Good workout on him. He started to pay more attention to you by the end.
Good job my friends. I live in BLACK CANYON CITY, AZ.85324. Watch u a lot. My name is Sharon Hope Weaver 71yrs old. I miss my horses.
Thanks for watching Sharon!!
The fact that he hasn't bit a hunk out you and that he didn't get spooked when you opens and shut that gate that was really nice on his part and him letting you brush him and when he wanted to submit after you ran him around with the saddle .good luck with skunk after you cut him I think he will come along great .
Great video! I think he deserved a more majestic name though. He is a beautiful horse and unique too. 👍
Hey there! It looks like you are a really good hearted person who wants to do right by this young and feral horse and you're going about it all wrong. Chasing him around only scares him and makes him more distrustful of you, that's why he won't come to you. If you take the time it takes to really gentle him, instead of scare him into submission, he will care for you and look after you and you will be safe. Not to mention you will be developing his thinking side of his brain vs working with his self-preservation and self defense. There's a better way, it just takes time and education.
Thx for the tips but there are many ways to go about it. This is how we do it. Thx for watching
He did great. He’s a sane little guy. It won’t take long at all with him.
Allen, the fence is fantastic. Skunk has been in charge up to now. Once he’s thinking with his brain, he’ll come around. His blow-ups were not that bad. Have all the confidence that he’ll be a riding horse for someone. Great video. Sending blessings.
That is one awesome pony. I can see so much potential! You got yourself a good one there.
Us too
Idk if you follow any natural horsemanship trainers already on TH-cam, but Warwick Schiller is kinda amazing and fun to watch. He explains things really well, and has gotten some really cool results. Any who, It was fun watching you get him and work with him! I like your wife’s comments in the background! 😊
I heartily second Warwick Schiller. Ryan Rose is another super horseman and teacher of both horses and their people.
I bet Skunk is going to be one of those horses that has enough attitude that he becomes lovable, especially once he submits more and gets his two problems removed. Great show guys!
Thanks
He reminds me of the Mongolian steppe horses in build and colors.
Good job you know more about him now.
Just started watching. Really a mule person.
❤️
I think he hasnt been handle ver much but you are doing well with him. With a lot of patience and love he will give it back to you. Wish I had a farm for him.
I’m so in love with this horse, I would’ve gotten him myself. He’s going to be amazing with time and the correct training. I definitely see the potential in him, if I were you I’d just take things a bit slower. Setting the foundation is great for making those bigger steps later on
Well, that little Stinker! He did really well in a short amount of time. And Allan, so did you! ❤️❤️❤️
That fence reminds me of my
Dad! He made a long fence made with ocotillas !! He set
them in a 2 in trench and it
bloomed the very next year!
Thanks for sharing and I think your fence is looking great. Yes, never turn your back on a young horse in training. Have a nice safe day!!!
Good job Allen ,don’t give up .
lesson number one never turn your back to a spooky Stud colt
New to your channel..just subbed. I think this is an awesome little horse..hope to see more progress in the coming days..he's beautiful and the fence is as well..
Thank u and welcome to the farm!!
Alan, I think you have done a great thing saving Stinker!!, he was destined for the “glue factory” I believe, and for you to use your money and your time, and talent to save him, you have earned a special place in heaven !!!
Good job on the horse! I love the stay fences when ever I see them and love to do them.. sign me up for help LOL
good job. You both learned a lot.
Thx
He's definitely got potential! It was a good start working him!
Alan when you put your arm out i cried. You are so good with animals
Hi, Palmer family. Wow, there were some scary moments inside that round pen with Skunk. Vicki, I could hear the fright in your voice. I really do think he'll find his way in time and after castration. I couldn't believe all the hair that came off while Alan was brushing him. Alan, I don't think building a fence can be compared with pregnancy, my friend...hahahaha. But the fence did look awesome! Always nice to see a glimpse of Blake these days. You all take good care and stay safe and well.
Well I am so glad you bought him as he needed a better home. I think he did amazing. I just think you should of given him a week of ground work at least before the saddle. I think the best thing you could do is watch video with Skunk I am sure you will see some better things you could have done all in all he was excellent. You could see where he was scared and he tried really hard for you. Patience, time, love and consistency will help. I am sure you know that. Stay safe.
Horse looks good I am not a horse guy old now but my Dad did when a kid and lots of times horses like turn out the best. Love your channel
Submission accomplished! Good job!
It looks like he has some Icelandic pony in him.
Awesome! He is a stinker for sure.......LOL I was interested in knowing where you learned to love and work the horses. You and Blake seem to be magic with the horses!
Blessings
Oh, and I love the fence, it's awesome!
Hooking up is the best part of training!! He'll get there.🐎
You’re doing your best !. Keep up good work
Wholly guacamole that was a close call enjoyed the video great camera action Vicky❤God Bless
Enjoyed watching you with wee skunk
Allen, God has given you great talents for training horses, the next-generation (Blake) as well👍. Once he gets fixed some of that stinker will go. Worth the 150.00. Like: "Man of his word."
Ahh,mm, nice pregnancy fence 😅
I get the full meaning of the name now. You got Skunked! He,he. Loved the video. Love that you are giving him a chance. I think this situation is worth praying for.
Thanks so much
I love your videos and I want that horse! You guys rock!
Hes gonna be a good horse .
He is turning out nice!!
Love the fence good job! Good video
Alan's got this. Looking forward to seeing the next lesson!
Thanks so much!!
Enjoying your channel very much.
Thank you
I think he did really good. You did a good job he will probably turn out to be a good horse
I think you might have a winner. He is so beautiful since you brushed him.
You need the Clinton Anderson method, Good Job!!
It's 9am in Texas and you made me laugh about the pregnancy remark..... it's like pregnancy, you have to forget about it for awhile.🤣 Cowboys you have to love them!!😄
Exactly!!
You’ve just caught him. I like him.
Awesome training session.
You made it snow! I’m loving that fence.
Start from the beginning. He trusts you as much as you trust him. Not at all. His attitude shows he's been here before. So treat him as green, n untrained. It will be safer for both of you. Deworming n feeding gaining his trust is the first thing, as well as gelding. Good luck n stay safe.
I’ll keep that in mind if this horse somehow ends up in my lap 🤣
I LOVE the fence!!
That horse grazed you good “Tis but a scratch”
look like a Fjord Horse
Had he not been stunted in the past, he'd be one hell of a nice looking horse!🐎
I love the stallion's tail,mane and forelock,nice colors
I think u did a good job on the horse and I love the fance
Never seen a fence like that before! Neat!
Thanks
Ole skunk sure knows how to demo the sheading blade, once you get his hair scraped off, a regular curry and regular brushes will relax them more. Like someone said before like a spa treatment for any horse. . He's gonna take some time, you're doing great.
Great job Allen 👏👏👏
Skunk !!!! Should have called him Tiger 😂. I think he is a good looking horse and I’m sure he will become a good one once you all work with him . You can see that he was not used to being brushed. Fence is looking great. 👍🏻
I would love the challenge of loving/teaching that beautiful critter into a pleasure to b around. I also see a ton of potential in him
he did pretty good. I think he has potential He learns fast, once he gets past the spook. He is curious about " here comes that man, what is he going to dothis time?" you can even see that as he watches you come to the pen. he will come around. he just wated to see if he could get that saddle off, no meaness there like that big red horse. I wish i had him. I would have loved to pick him up for 150 . but i would keep him. and call him buttermilk
What ever you do is right Allan. We all do things differently.so i liked skunks progress today, on fence all the way down. Vicki is right...ha ha gotcha man 🤣🤣😂
Thanks
Nicely Done Al👏.
He's being good with you👍
Well He was LOL 😨.
I think you two will do Fine
JO JO IN VT 💕😄☃
Thanks so much
Omygoodness. That’s Shunk. Wow 😮
I know you got alittle snow but you think you need a snow fence lol. That fence is something like we use up here to keep the snow from blowing in the road. Yours looks very good. Can't wait to see it done and you working with the horse more. I thought that horse was going to be alot worse than he is.
Omg has that baby ever been brushed?? It's been a very long time... I think you made awesome progress, but after today, I'd work on just getting to know one another where you can walk in and right up to him and catch him. Brush him, bond with him etc. once you can walk right up and put your hands all over him do the saddle again. He needs to trust first and know he's safe then I believe you'll have a whole different horse there. If he's as old as you were told and if he's already put babies on the ground, his studdy attitude may not go away and if it does it'll take longer than a colt.
I love the fence❤
Blake is such a good guy. Thanks for the new channel suggestion, I'll check it out. What does the stick thingy in the corral do?
reminds me of our mustang mare when we got her...she was about 5ish and skinny as heck. after 2 months she was a dragon to catch and you couldn't stop her from moving ALL THE TIME! she passed ladt year at about 34yrs old and it took many years to get past all the holes she had in training but once we did....we wouldn't have traded her for anything! While skunk needs lots more work bith on ground and saddled I think he's going to be a character for a sure!
I'm also a welder by trade.lost my mule after 18 yrs. Interested in good mule. Just got out from covid hanging in there. Luv ur channel.
Thank u. Sure hope u feel 100%soon
Alan the fence is looking really and almost finished
Greetings from the Tohono O'odham Nation, be careful with them studs they are a handful and sometimes mean. I've broke in plenty of them its gonna take a while but worth it. Keep on him every day and lots of ground work before getting on. Good job cowboy 👍🤠
He started to turn toward you and you did not know when to back up. Catch his eye and step back, avert your eyes. you want him to start turning in toward you to turn. That is respect in the herd dynamic. You got some of it right, I’m telling you that if you’re going to start horses for people you really need to watch some colt starting my Clinton Anderson. Timing is everything. You have potential and such also blocker tie rings are great tools.
He doesn’t look like a domestic breed of horse to me
He looks like one of those original wild breeds
Take a look at the Fjord horses.
Silly Sally yes he has the same unusual colour but that’s it. No Fjord, they are like Thelwell ponies in stature 😁. Fat and ummm round like a barrel with thick legs. They are awesome too
@@ksanurse Say thanks for the info, That was the closest I saw in that coloring. There is a vid of a cowboy working a fjord pony on vids, that he called that type, and he also was narrow chested and needed lots of work to get him up to speed. I had completely forgotten about the Thelwell Ponies. Thanks so much I adored them as a youth. . Appreciate your reply. Be Blessed
You should get him gelded asap and maybe watch a few videos of Mustang of gentling, I think that route would benefit both of y'all alot. He seems like a smart boy and it wouldn't take too much to at least get him gentle.
Thanks
I love watching, little stallion needs more ground training and handling before saddling. Watch Pat Puckett. Be cateful.
I love em chickens!!! Chickens made a farm so homie! And my niece has a horse like Skunk, but his name is Pepper!
He did good for the first time!
My kind of fence. Live it.
I love Blake's hat
They definitely waited to long in not Gelding that little horse. He is a handful for sure. He may calm down and be a little bit easier to handle after he's been Gelded.
Damn that is a really beautiful animal.
I was watching one of your videos and saw a varnish appaloosa that you hadn't found a good name for. I found a good name for her if you guys like it. Clouded Pearl. Have a Great Day!
I get a whip and put a plastic bag on the end and rub all over them till they submit and even go Between the front legs and the back. Works like a charm. I also have a 12 ft 6x6 x12 concreted in the ground With plenty of room around it and have the sharp corners Router. Then I put eyebolts in to tie them to so they don’t get hurt and booger them to no end LOL
Great idea!
Those look like good, walking, sticks, or hiking sticks instead of stays😍😀he’s 🤩 it’s going to be slow- well that was ent as slow as I thought it would be 😊 so beautiful really hope he works out 🙏🏻🙏🏻Humm that was really close mAybe a little slower may help 🙏🏻🙏🏻❣️😊 Haha skunk little stinker! Oh ya❤
Ohh yeah that's going to be fun one to break
Good job
Ah, gotta love the spoiled stud syndrome. Always lunged for an almost an hour before handling a youngin who was hot and figured being a jerk was okay behavior. Once they got their Spunk out and a little tired, they were more than happy to do what you asked. First time is always the hardest! Especially with a saddle, let the craziness begin! Pretty funny once they realize, it won't hurt them, they settle down and act embarrassed. I think people forget that studs can be sensitive and if their egos get checked,, they start thinking better.. Growing pains are so hard lol! and getting to meet each other, but he'll come around. You two will have a great bond after the first month and that little pony will be spectacular. Kind of like a mouthy teenager! Keep them busy with a job, makes a world of difference! Your personalities really work well together, and you know some horses give no warnings before blowing up. Thats why only a few can do what you do, forgiveness and understanding that they are animals and all horses are a little goofy. Just makes the experience more fun I always say! You're only human, keep up the great work and have fun!
Looks good
That is my kind of So. Texas fence, do the round pen, so they don't kick through the bars.
Skunk, is going to be just fine if you don't push him to fast. He is different from what you are used to. More round pen work. Don't let him get away with not changing directions when you want. He settles down and goes to licking his lips really quick. Round pen him some every day until you get him cut. He is going to be better than I originally thought, that's dollars on the hoof my friend.
Good job, just don't rush it. From Cowboy John
Thanks
Good for a first time, just needs repetition and work. Should be a good one!
