Additionally, I want to tell you how much I appreciate your video title... it is very distinctive from the tutorials on how to size pictures for the listings on Etsy... I've been having a harder time finding the instructionals on how to create the files that will actually go to the customers!
It is generous and kind of you to share your experience, knowledge and templates. Thank you! I bought some art from you in 2019, and you've inspired me to try my hand at selling some of my own art on Etsy. This video was very helpful. Just liked and subscribed, and will watch your other videos with great interest. Cheers!
Great video.. Just set up an Etsy Shop this week and now I can see that I will be editing every single one of my listings... 😂. I've been doing a single file, now that I see this it only makes sense to have the 5 different so the end user is able to do as they please. Now once I get this done.. I'm going to pray for a sale lol
I'm just starting out myself...I've started creating original art that I want to sell...the free download of size guides and PSD files are great, thank you!
This is so incredibly helpful! Thank you so much for a very thorough and raw tutorial, Brandon! I've been researching so much regarding what the most time-efficient method of exporting multiple images for printables was (from automated batches to custom PS actions) and this just makes the process simple and clean.
If your image is pixels (JPEG), convert it to a vector format (SVG). Then you can scale up to an image the size of a billboard if you could find a paper printer to process it! There will be no blurry pixilizations, faceted colors or ragged edges.
Thanks mate. That was exactly what I was missing. I've already done a heap of art. I was just waiting to find the sizes so I can upload them to Etsy and other print on demand places. Thank you for your generosity.
Once you have a vector file, design it to a large poster file, convert back to JPEG to sell as a one picture file. You might want to sharpen the edges and color enhance the image as well before selling it.
New subscriber here. Thanks so much for the templates, Brandon! So many TH-camrs talk about how to make money with digital art, but none share so much detail! I appreciate you!
I have watched it earlier too. Came in yt suggestion three times. I woujd like to see step by step on etsy wall art till product listing and learn n do.
Great Video! Thank you for including the sizing templates! The sizing has been stopping me from designing. Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you for your time and help!
@@brandontimothycan I ask a question? I’ve managed to covert my digital wall art into 5 different sizes but how do I actually add that to ETSY? I can’t see a variation option like physical products? I just see the option to upload 5 files but I’m not sure how the customer is able to chose the size they want? Thanks
@@magssmwhen the customer buys the file, they will get 5 files of different sizes, and they will print out the size they need. No variations needed, just add all the aspect ratios in the listing
I rarely comment on video but I HAVE to thank you for this!! I was getting so confused and this is the exact video i was looking for. Thanks so much!!!!!!!!!!
Great video, thanks for your insight! I actually made a script that resizes one image to all those ratios automatically and saves them as new files with the ratio in the name. I got so tired to do this with all my images hehe
@carnegard I did almost the same thing. I commissioned a javascript programmer to create the script for me but I didn't have it resize the photos because no javascript can properly decide the cropping the image when you go from say a 2:3 Ratio to a 4:5 Ratio. That's something that takes a human eyeball and preference for what might be clipped by the ratio difference. Just my take on it anyway. I might see if further scripting could help but I heard of someone who tried the same thing and while it did the job, the images just didn't come out the way the artist expected and consequently some customers might not be happy. Since reviews on Etsy and other forums plan a big role, I'd rather eyeball it. Perhaps AI will get into everyday scripting but we're not quite there yet.
@@musictheory4u153 You can have someone prepare a script for you. I did... but I didn't go as far as the resizing and cropping. To me that takes a good human eye.
Hahaha OMG I'll have to watch this one about 10 times, maybe then I'll get it! I always thought I was a fast learner... until now! Thanks for this video! Great help, truly! :)
how does it keep from distorting the image with all the resizing,I want my customers to have the very best quality to print out on their end...thank you..
Thank you very much. I need this information in order to set up my Etsy shop to sell my photography. I'm very thankful and will be using this video for reference, as well as consulting your other videos. Much thanks!
Hi Brandon! Thank you so much for this video! I use procreate for my digital illustrations. But I would like to know what size should I design for my artwork?
Hi Brandon, this was very helpful. Thank you! I use Procreate and 24x36 is too large of a file. I believe the largest I can do is 20x30. You mentioned a 20x30 file can also be printed as 24x36? Have you had clients done this successfully without loosing resolution?
I use mockups that I purchase from Creative Market. You can find them here: creativemarket.com/?u=brandontimothy. They're great for visualizing how designs will look in a space. Let me know if you need more info! 😊
Your image size of the 2x3 Ratio file is 6000 x 9000 (300 ppi). In the Ratio & Sizes document you are stating that you can print a 24"x36" but that won't hold the 300 ppi. Any reason why you decided to make the size 6000 x 9000 and not higher?
Thanks Tim, would it be possible for you to make a video on how to save the images, whether on the hard drive or the computer and especially how to save and organize the image folders in Google Drive? One more question, I use topaz gigapixel to enlarge the images, is that program good or do you recommend a better one? thank you very much for sharing so much, greetings
Hi! I understand we making the biggest size in each ratio, but how about the international one. We making the 50x70cm only, then customers can scale down to these other sizes? Thanks 🫣
Im having trouble setting up my cnavas file within procreate and was wondering if you had any tips/could do a video on how your process is when you upload digital downloads to etsy from something you made in procreate.
Thanks for your tutorial and your help, but what about the bleeds, trim area and crop marks? I think preparing the canvas with these characteristics is very important. I still don't know if the bleeds have to be within the format (aspect ratio) or outside. If they are outside, should the original image be enlarged to cover the bleeds? If so, if my original image, for example: 3:4 (7200 x 9000 pixels, upscaled) when enlarging the image to cover the bleeds, I would lose print quality since I would cover those 3mm on each side of the bleed. I would really appreciate it if you could clarify this for me. Thanks in advance
But why do you have RGB mode when for printing you should use CMYK? And it seems this preparation of the file sizes can only be easily done when the design has white space around it right? Otherwise you would always see that it doesn't fit correctly..
Hi Brandon! Your videos have been so helpful...very thankful for all of your advice. I just launched an Etsy shop selling digital wall art. If you could please help out with a question I have with bleeds...I create the art in adobe illustrator and several of my listings have bleeds. I just read that jpeg files do not support bleeds, only pdf does and I know Etsy buyers prefer jpeg files. Any suggestion would be appreciated, thanks so much!!
Thanks for your helpfull informations. I have questions about file sizes. Your base size is 18" x 24". So if your image has 300 dpi at this size and a customer wants it to be printed as a 24" x 36" image, this means upscaling to around 148% for the longest side. This means that the resolution is then only 200 dpi. You mentioned that the print on demand printers print at 150 dpi. Is that really enough? That would mean that the basic image at 18" x 24" would be large enough, even with a resolution of 230 dpi, to be used for the maximum possible sizes. What resolution do you work with for your basic size of 18" x 24", which resolutions do you generally recommend so that the prints still come out well?
Thank you for the helpful video. I am sorry if I missed this somewhere, but what are the sizes of the different ratio files? For example, what is the size of the artboard for the 2x3 ratio? And so on. Thank you
Great video! Do you also use the 18x24 canvas size when creating art in Procreate? I tired and it only allows 2 layers. I can probably work with that but I usually like a few more layers. Thanks for any advice!
Thanks for your great advice only one problem my art has a border 22” x 30” bfk reeves paper so the ratios won’t work with my work unless I distort it 😢
Okay, you got my interest on the topic. Having been an adjunct instructor in universities and community colleges, that you stay on topic. Meaning just present all of the core information, and then back track and cover the variables. I’m guessing you’ve only worked with PS. For the ratios can you sell it in it's smallest size and customers still be able to size up to whatever they'd like? For example, selling a 3x4 ratio as a 6"x8", a 2x3 ratio as a 4"x6" and so on.
Super helpful video, thank you! Do you think it'd be a bad thing to sell pieces at just one aspect ratio? Like "This piece is a 2:3 aspect ratio, so it's printable sizes are 24x36 etc.." It seems like a ton of work to make 5 resizings for each listing, if I'm going to have 100+ listings..
Thanks for watching! I understand that selling pieces in one size can save time, but for me offering different sizes can attract more buyers. Buyers appreciate having options to choose from. It's very important to consider your buyer's preferences.
