I would have been scared senseless to cut that up. Probably let it grow out some more. Thank you so much for your bravery and for providing excellent content with updates.

I was at the edge of my seat throughout the video hoping you get great variegation. So happy your efforts paid off! I've never seen such a detailed propagation with so many updates. Especially one for a v. Billiatiae. Thanks your awesome content Shaun!
@@onlyplants please update in the coming weeks or months about it's progress(even shorts video would be perfect hehe). it is such a wish list plant for me. yet it's 4 figure per leaf here. and the fear of it reverting made it feel like it's worth 5 figure per leaf 😅 and you are the first person I see with a baby version! 🤩
just wanted to say a big thank you to you, your videos have helped me and my plant journey so so much you explain everything so well ! my bad days are always better when an onlyplants vid comes out 😊
Hi Sean, welcome back :) I took a break from your videos because I realized all the content about moving/purging/re-settling was giving me anxiety... I know it's my problem not yours, no worries. But I'm happy to be back, can't wait to see progress on your plants in the new place!
Oh the baby turned out beautiful 😍 🌱 I got nervous when your first update was after only a week, I thought you were gonna say they already had rotted lol.
My fave plant! Easy to grow and Ikeep 1 in moss, the other in aroid mix.both in plastic. BTW, the larger 1 grows very fast, the smaller, not too much yet. Thanks for showcasing this.
Your billie gives me hope. I have my own that I got, a small one that put out a leaf about 1.5 times the size of the ones before it and has shown no signs of putting out another in about a month now. I was worried i was doing something wrong and couldn't figure out what, but knowing that it took 2 years for yours to grow to that point and how rarely it puts out leaves has reassured me. I can't wait for mine to get as big as yours.
I managed to get an amazing plant from this, but it took 3 years and 2 times propagation. You can check my recent instagram feed to see the latest baby! Its soo beautiful.
Well, sometimes you have to cut a lot in order to have varigation! You did well my friend! Although I admit ,I got scared watching you chop those tight nodes yet it ended pretty good at the end, the varigation looks stunning!! As for maintaining the varigation on the Billy, you have to give it intense light , morning or evening sunlight to keep the varigation constant, and a good specimen of course.
Well done Shaun in getting the variegation back. I’m tempted to cut my monstera albo to see if I can get more variegation. Thank you again for this video. My wish list plant but too expensive here in NZ, might need to wait for a few years for price to go down. 😊
Its always a good idea to cut back for variegation. Fertilizing and preparing it 1-2 months before propagation helps a lot! Air layering is also very good idea with more expensive plants
To loosen up the roots from the sides, you can take an old dull knife you don't like in the kitchen and run it carefully around the inside edge. Then poke yer finger into the drain hole in the bottom to start the push.
Hi ther, love your channel! You inspired me to buy a ssp. I did! Just received came in small plastic cup in a moss medium but is rooted looks well think seller is reputable source. Question should I repot it right away or weight (whatever reasons) please throw your wisdom!
I would not disturb it just yet. But if its in full moss keep in mind not to overwater it. Be light with watering when you do. These guys are quite prone to rot
You're so funny Sean. You are so full of energy but the plants might get stressed with all the moving. So sad that some of the new sprouts on the parent plant got damaged. Anyways I guess the plants knows you well already and are acclimated to you. ✌️
Hey Shawn, i noticed your plant is growing so beautifully up up, what light does it get, mine (the not variegated one) is leaning a lot, producing long petioles, reaching for the light I guess ... it needs top light i think right ? Tnx for another great vid.
Is it true to all philo? My brother gifted me with a different variety and it is pretty slow a grower. Thanks for the tips on substrate. Though mine I did not bother changing the potting mix as I am scared it could be too sensitive and I don't want it to die on me. It's current soil is regular garden soil which my brother had in his garden. I'll check back your videos to see what I can do with it.
Hello I bought a top cut for $300 it should ship Monday but it has no roots or node any tips for rooting or growing until it produces a node to root? Should I do sphagnum or water?
This klnd of plant cost almist half a million pesos here in the Philippines Just see the conversion This will take time to grow as 1 of the reason why its so expensive
@@onlyplants If that was mine, I could have put the leaves in a vase.. it seems has a long vase life. Its beautiful that you have such compassionate soul. Giving life (such as births) take enormous pain and suffering. (Yes, plants can feel pain in ways we cannot describe yet) but the creation of new life is beautiful, and I daresay, the purpose of every living thing is to impart life for the next generation - stronger and more beautiful.
maybe the planting medium is too fertile so the varigates disappear and return to normal growth (green)__as far as I know, varigata plants for fertilization are limited so that the varigates are stable..💚💚
I salute your dedication on providing us updates shaun, Hands down to your amazing and very informative videos as always ❤ 🙌🏻🙌🏻

Thanks for this video. I also have a tiny tissue cultured Variegated Billitiae, bought as a less than an inch , 2 leaves . it’s now got 5 leaves

Every philo have different growth speed and propagation speed as well 😀
indoor / semi indoor enviroment really puts new challenge on the roots & watering, Now I even put my shot glass on use🥴
I have better luck indoor than outdoor actually… 🥲

I was going through your old video, can you give me more updates on this plant, please?
There will be a video coming soon showing the updates (in this video I propagate it further to produce 3 variegated baby plants!)
I try propagation of my golden dragon I chop it narrowly it produce axillary buds and leaves but eventually, it got dry up and died.
Waiting for that video
It's scary to watch you cut. Let us know after this turns out..I enjoy all your videos.
I followed you a few months now. I also looked older videos. One question, what do you use to sterilize the cuttings?
I use activated charcoal 🙌🏽
@@onlyplants 🙏
thats so cool keep up the great work@@
Thank you 🙌🏽
Sean, bagaimana kalau tiba2 dia menghitam dan gagal unfurl ( new leaf) ? Apakah terlalu banyak penyiraman atau bagaimana?
Could be too little or too much. Akar nya mungkin busuk atau kering mati. Harus di cek
Hello I bought a top cut for $300 it should ship Monday but it has no roots or node any tips for rooting or growing until it produces a node to root? Should I do sphagnum or water?
Water for sure 😀
Hi Sean. What is the sterialising liquid mix?
? I dont use liquid to sterilize. Usually rub activated charcoal powder onto the cut ends
Should I put mine on a moss pole? 23:16
What a massive, beautiful plant! I would not have the guts to prune it :)
I was forced to as it has turned green 🙈
But I was actually terrified cutting it up
Is that activated charcoal that you rub on to sterilise the cutting? I've seen people rubbing a white substance too, probably pesticide.
Yes activated charcoal. Others use rooting hormone sometimes
Watching this gave me so much anxiety! She's so gorgeous!!
I am filming another update. She is now 4 beautiful plants!
Dream plant ❤ gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous 😍😍😍
Thank you 🥰
Are you referring to Sean or the plant 😂😂😂❤❤
Get a butter knife to move around the plant to help loosen it up without damaging the roots
That is a good advice
if you have them climbing a pole, can you update please. i can't find any pics on Google showing them climbing a moss pole. thank you.
Wooh theres lots of nursery tours that I did where they were climbing… its very similar to a white princess etc
I wish we can see the update on last cutting with verigation.
Another video is coming soon to show these variegated.
any update on those tiny billietiae full var
Oh yes Im actually filming a repotting for them. 3 plants in total. Waiting for growth updates!
I do with coconut husk in self watering sistem.
Never fails
Interesting 😀😀
Hi - are the prices in indonesia better ? In europe we pay about 600€ for one leave… hope prices come down soon 😉
Its around that price in Indonesia. Might be lower if you find farmers directly.

Yeahh variegated plants take about 4-5 times slower to produce. With some chance of losing it from reversion or turning fully variegated.
How old is your var billietiae beofre it gets to that size? Thanks
About 2 years I think
Yay!!!😅😊
Please do an update on this.
There is one in the next video but a quick snippet. Dont miss it 😀
it reverted ?
Yes its reverted 😀
Didn't you try in water the leaf cuttings without roots? 🤔
Wooh you mean the leaves without the main stem? They will not sprout a new plant. We will need to have a growing eye on a node to be a viable cutting.
