    I am glad I subscribe to you! When spring comes I’m going to check mine. I’ve had it 3 years now and it’s doing well. I paid $1 for it off the clearance rack. It was rotting. I cleaned it and loved it and got rewarded - thank you for sharing this today.

    OMG you're a saviour! I was just wondering what to do to my Alocasia portodora because it has grown so much over the years that it's growth point is 20cm over the soil. It's really difficult to find information on what to do when the ...tuber? gets too big for your pots. The answer is right here get to cutting! A wholehearted thank you from Finland

    Hi ! I have a question for those who grow Allocasia Bambino Arrow. I bought one two or three weeks ago, and regarding the biggest leaves, the pointed tips are starting to be slightly yellow/ brown, but overall they're fine ; regarding the smallest and the newest leaves, some of them are fully yellow now, and dying.
    As it's autumn, I only water it every 12 days, but I don't leave the plant's soil dry ; regarding the light, it's a very bright room, and the Allocasia is near a big window thus there's few direct sunlight in the day.
    Would you think it's a lack of humidity ? Or too much/not enough watering ?
    Please help me out on this one, love it to much to let it die :)
    ps : thank you so much for you video I'll follow your advices !!

    Wow! This is one of the most successful propagation videos you have done I think 😁. I don't own many alocasias (just 2) because they always die on me, or the leaves turn yellow when a new one appears, and I don't enjoy that behavior haha. But after watching this video you have inspired me to give them a second chance :D

    • @onlyplants
      @onlyplants  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The trick is to have many clumps in one pot so you can enjoy a thicker foliage. But frequent pruning is to be expected 😀

    I have an alocasia Polly that suffered a terrible accident. I was shaking the plant over a white paper to see if it had spider mites (no spiderites )but the plant broke off. The stem separated from the roots completely 😭 The bulb/corm is intact alongside the stem and the leaves on the stem but it has no roots what should I do now ?

    • @onlyplants
      @onlyplants  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ive never heard of people shaking plants over white paper for spidermites hehe. You can usually see them on the underside of the leaves. I would treat all alocasias regularly (2-3 months) regardless of spidermites.
      I would water propagate the top broken off portion. And the lower nodes can form
      Roots and leaves no problem. Give it high humidity and dont drown it in water

  • @mspolkadotpink

    Hi, thanks for your video. I have a alocasia that looks just like yours and when I bought it there was one leaf opening and then it sent out a second leaf, the problem is the two leaves never opened fully at the tip area, it is still dent inward just like your bent leaf on this plant your showing us and it been over 3-4 weeks. I don't know what going on, what do you think? Thank you

    • @onlyplants
      @onlyplants  ปีที่แล้ว

      It could be due to sudden change in environment. Another possibility could be spidermites.

    I enjoyed the detailed video on the breeding, care, and sprout growth process of Alocacia Bambino. I also raise a Bambino in a balcony garden and a guppy room at home, but It died grow in the balcony garden a while ago. I think it was because winter in Korea was cold. I think it'll be hard to cover it with Vinyl in the winter. I'll have to wait until the sprouts sprout next spring.

    How do you wash the entire plant roots and all before planting in a crested gecko vivarium?

    • @onlyplants
      @onlyplants  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would soak it in water well mixed with a few drops of soapy water. Bit of neem
      Oil in the mix would be really good to ensure no spidermites are on the plant. After a few minutes, shake the existing media loose from the roots. Give the plant one last rinse with water before planting it in the vivarium.
      If you dont treat the alocasia for pests beforehand, it might be difficult to do so once its in the vivarium.
      Neem oil is natural and is harmless to animals. I highly recommend it.
      Keep the plant away from bright light for 1 day after treating with neem though.

    I see some people selling seeds and wonder if I should try.

    • @onlyplants

      Careful with the seeds… but seedlings that has already shown variegation is alright. They can take some direct light but best to have dappled or filtered effect. Full sun would crisp up its variegated portions

    • @onlyplants

      Bright shade please 😀 they love more light than we think. In lower light they can live but make sure theres good airflow and it doesnt stay wet for long

    • @onlyplants
      @onlyplants  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Could also be lack of light. Water when the media feels almost completely dry.
      They like loose and airy, fast draining media.

    Do you think these would do okay in a full sun glasshouse in the UK, perhaps with a small amount of dappled shade?

    • @onlyplants
      @onlyplants  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it also depends on the season and the direction its facing… they love partial shade with a bit of direct

    I am having trouble with mine. I repotted to a large pot is that wrong or should it be in smaller pot? I am in FL and i tried every window and leaves droop and yellow. I also put the seeds i found in the root in its own pot

    • @onlyplants
      @onlyplants  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its much happier in a smaller pot.
      Yellowing leaves may have been sign of too much water. When you have a lot of potting media it can retain too much water

    • @onlyplants
      @onlyplants  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Consider amending the mix too so its more airy. They love some airflow around the roots

      Thank you this morning i reported and have a pot with holes all over and have the roots well some going through so hope this helps and i place them by the large bathroom window which is East window and 1 plant south window 3 feet away so hopefully
