    I have mine in a chunky aroid mix, and it grows very quickly. It's one of the fastest growing plants I have. It's also one of the easiest to grow.

    If Frieda Billet is still alive . You should reach out to her for an interview and find out about the plant.

    I totally get what you said about the growing medium. I switched it to a mix of about 60-70% perlite and some orchid bark. It definitely sped up the growth. From my experience, the roots seem to love a drier substrate.

    • @Houseplantygoodness
      @Houseplantygoodness  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      that is good I am not the only one that experienced that element too. Yeah I found it does love substrate on the drier side for sure.

      I don’t know if I’m the only one but the plant, especially the roots, smells fruity almost like mango.

    I have had my Bille for about a year now. I got a relatively small one. It grew about a leaf every two months. It is hardy and so cute. The more light you give it the more orange the the stems get. However the shorter the petiole gets as well. It has been a balancing act for me. I have propagated this plant. I air layered it then took rooted one leaf cuttings. I put the cuttings in spag in clear cups with plastic wrap on top of the cup opening to create humidity in the cup. I then put them directly under grow lights. The leaf bleached out a bit but the roots took off. I have also propagated a unrooted top cut. It was in spagnum for a while but then I noticed the cataphyll getting wrinkled so I put it in water to plump it up. As soon as it is rehydrated I'll put it back in spagnum.
    I really like this plant, it is hardy and beautiful but not the fastest grower.

    This was a wishlist plant for ages and managed to get one during covid! This has been one of my most easiest philos probably! Quite slow growing, it’s not given me anything over autumn/winter but I found last spring it gave me a few new leaves. It’s currently working on a chonky leaf right now! I’ve found it’s liked the extra humidity in my cabinet and is sizing up nicely from that! I cannot wait for this to get big! The orange stems and ridges around the leaves are beautiful! 😻

      Most of your houseplants will go dormant in the winter and the growth will slow to almost stop. Then during spring and summer they wake up and start the process all over again! You may see more out of your plant this year since it may have just been throwing a fit getting acclimatized to your home.

    Mine grows huge leaves under a growlight and aroid mix. With worm castings once a month. I put them last summer in a direct afternoon sunlight and they became chlorotic,. Chunky mix in a clear plastic pot, they’re very thirsty so I moved them out of terra cotta pot. I Love your video!

    • @Houseplantygoodness

      Awwww that is awesome, thanks for sharing with everyone, true on the too much light making it chlorotic, I experienced that too.
      Ah so glad you enjoyed the video!!

    Hi there thanks for the great video, iv'e had one for two years also its been dormant this winter but I've found it grows quite fast in summer but then i've been a bit obsesive in moving it from an east facing window in the morning to a west facing one in the evening! No midday sun but it doesn't seem to mind sunlight thats getting a bit on the tasty side. When i bought it it was the most expensive plant i had bought and was nervous but I've found it to be healthy and robust, it takes a lot of room with the leaves unstaked in its rosette form but i like the look of it that way

      Awww glad you enjoyed! I have to say love the dedication of moving it daily. the plant is obviously getting optimum light in your conditions. I also get when its a big investment you want to do the best by the plant for sure 100%

    I got mine at the incredible price of $10 I have had it a bit on a month and it is unfurling a new left. It's been such a easy going plant I'm in Queensland Australia

      @Houseplantygoodness  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh wow that price is amazing! I am keen to see how it does in queensland, from what I have heard that region is quite favourable for tropical plants, I am sure it will be huge in no time.

    Love my billie. Had it almost 2 years and it has been such an easy plant. It's in my south window and actually gets a fair amount of direct sunlight. I'm in northern Canada, so the sun isn't as intense. Summer it gets dappled sunlight. Soil mix is just a standard aroid mix, but I have more sphagnum moss and a bit of triple mix as well. I don't water that often, but the plant just keeps on going, even bone dry. I'm going to put mine on a moss pole soon. I do, however, have some big internodal spacing, around 6 o 7 cm (2 in). Humidity, is very low in my case butbit hasnt been hindered at all. Overall, though great plant, I don't regret it at all. Tough and a great one for a beginner to dip their toes into some of the other philodendrons.

    I got mine about a year ago at a garden center last winter, impulse buy, cost way more than any other plant I’ve ever bought, but no regrets, just love it! It’s set back from a south facing window (I live in northern Vermont, so sun is not a big deal here), and it’s gradually grown new and bigger leaves, the latest is 18” from ear to nose. I’ve got it in chunky soil with orchid bark and pumice. Don’t water it too much. Have it tied up on a bamboo stake since otherwise it’s pretty wide. No intention of cutting it any time soon. Love it, hope it out-lives me.

    I bought a two leaf baby late Fall. I got three leaves over the winter and working on number 4. She’s in soil. I enjoy watching her (and other small plants) grow! If I buy them too big, then I don’t feel like I’ve really contributed to their development. 8 out of 10 for me.

    Great video. I have one purchase during the pandemic. My inter nodal spacing is quite large. Therefore, easier to air-Root and propagate. I put mine in a terracotta pot in Aroid soil.

    • @sherryporsch9349
      @sherryporsch9349 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mine is the same an I don’t like the long inter-nodal space. The leaves get smaller as it climbs. Now air layering. I wondered if it was a X?

    I got a more mature specimen with leaves starting at 15 inches and it grew very quickly throwing out big leaf after the next. Winter took a hit in smaller leaves. I accidentally damaged the main root branch system so was forced to cut it down to save the plant. Hope I didn’t just force it to grow small again all the leaves

    It's a tissue culture the size of an average coin and the leaves are the size of my full thumbnail but hey, I have one hahaha

    Brill video, Memo!
    I got mine as an established plant about 6 months ago so it has been with me during the winter. It’s lost two of the old yellowing leaves but put out a small new one.
    I find the growth exceptionally slow BUT the aerial roots are growing like crazy.
    It’s in a chunky aroid mix with lots of bark and drainage and it’s in my Ikea greenhouse cabinet, so I’m thinking it’s perhaps unhappy in the pot given the aerial roots are now double the height of the leaves 😅

  • @Jayl__
    @Jayl__ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Admit the internodal spacing is small especially in higher light but during the winter the spacing was larger between
