0:53 This was the first one I had owned and I played it RELIGIOUSLY as a kid. Then I played Trainz Simulator 12 for the first time as a teen and almost burst out crying from all the new features
I remember the train simulator we had before any of these hit the market: We rotated our arms at the elbows, ran around and made "choo-choo" noises, and if we were very lucky, our parents may have given us a large cardboard box in which we could sit. The immersion was shit.
Yes, agreed. I've always thought WoS 3 is a very much underestimated simulator. In terms of general functionality within the cab WoS 3 beats TSW hands down.
Hello! Louay Khemiri. I'm from Russia. I tied to find a video about the Train simulator 2012 and found your video the only one you made a video of how the train simulator changed l am now 12 years old and l am playing the train simulator 2012, which is at the moment 5:35. I saw and began to play, l downloaded this game when l was still going to kindergarten. Thank you for the video! I remembered my childhood.
Somebody please send an email to Microsoft to work on an upgraded version of MSTS. That thing was sick and only lacked graphics. I hope someone from MS will see this and do something about it.
You forgot one of these: Train Simulator (1995-2000), also a Japanese game, which the gameplay is based from video recorded fps background as a basis of direction of a moving train. And also, the rest of Densha De GO! series. - Densha De Go! 2, and then 3. - Densha De Go! Shinkansen - Densha De Go! nagoya railroad - Densha De Go Professional - Densha De Go FINAL - Lastly, Densha De Go 2017 Arcade, - And many other small Densha De Go games in smaller devices. Densha De Go! (even Final, released in 2004, would do) is still one of the best train simulator games to play which trains you to become attentive and more punctual. This is where you can never bore any train simulator then.
Honestly I see Train sim 20XX/Railworks as more of the “professional” of the sims (i know a modified version of it is used on some lines for training). Because of this, I’d say the track and platform quality doesn’t matter quite as much
@@andrewharmon5843 with the quality of their locomotives, calling it somewhat professional it's almost insulting lol, it mostly shines in operations but the work put in most of their trains and modeling is really subpar, especially with run 8 now in the market being by far the best one in terms of train fidelity, operations, quality despite it lagging behind in graphics compared to TSW3
Great list! Although there are a few key ones imo that were very ahead of their time that weren't listed, such as the later Densha De Go! games, The PSP Densha De Go! versions, and especially Densha De Go! Shinkansen, and Densha De Go! Final. There were also a line of games from Japan called Train Simulator en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Train_Simulator_series using real footage which eventually lead up to the PS3 exclusive Railfan series of simulators from Japan!! Honestly I hope the way of simulators comes back in the style of Japans Train Simulator and Railfan using real video footage and audio, minus the arcade feel though! We get so much US and EU trains/systems in games and we rarely get games with Japan included which imo is a true gem when it comes to trains.
DTG's Train Sims only have a few routes and adding new routes and trains can cost you quite a few dollaz/euros. Meanwhile, you can download hundreds of freeware addons for MSTS/Open Rails.
Run8 is great too if you want a highly realistic multiplayer game to play with friends, it also doubles as a dispatcher sim to as you can choose to control signals.

Trainz franchise was made by Auran, Microsoft made their own. Trains simulator was made by dovetail. All 3 are made by different devs. This video makes it seem like it is just one franchise and is misleading because all 3 have their own unique features and content and should be shown separately.
You also forgot openRails which they ALL look similar only The World of Subways series, Run 8, Derail Valley, TSW series and openBVE actually stand out above ANY other train simulator in the WORLD!!
yeah, though it hasnt delicious graphic settings, or maybe movement of train can be some clumsy (when for ex passing the railway switch), but I believe from ALL simulators presented today, ZDSimulator gives most immersive and realistic experience. Need to say this game shouldnt have to be a game actually, but a simulator for beginners train`s drivers.
What about all the other Densha De Go Games (and there were a lot of them) including the Shinkansen version that featured the entire Sanyo shinkansen route?
With train simulator classic as it's now called, I don't actually really care about the outdated graphics. I'd say it doesn't even look that bad. In my opinion, games don't need to be ultra realistic to be fun. Sure it's nice and cool, but that's not the main or only thing that makes me want to pick up a game. Although, simulators don't really feel like a game to me. Especially those like Train Simulator Classic. I've got Train Simulator Classic and Train Sim World 2. Both are fun, but I think Train Simulator Classic is the most fun. There's so many stuff you can get for it. However I am still quite new to the world of train simulators. Haven't played a lot yet.
I had train sims on a Sinclair spectrum computer All scenery was line drawings long before any of these in fact before PC's Existed. The first I think was just called train sim and the second was Southern Bell.
Missed CSX: Heavy Haul (2017) and Train Sim World (2018), which were predecessors to Train Sim World 2020. Also, Train Sim World 2(2020) which was a follow-up to Train Sim World 2020.
I'm shaken by the fact all TRAINZ game have the same HUD for over that 13 years. Need to pay each year to play, NO ONLINE mode, NO real career mode, laggy, crash when do ALT+TAB and for last 60 000 dollars of DLC.............
Some games in this listing are incomparable. They are totally different. Train simulator today is the best solution to play trains as a driver/dispatcher. Trainz is ideal for modders and sandbox geeks. Derail Valley is hot starter as a railroad-related RPG and hardcore sim. SimRail... Will see in 2021!
MSTS Brings back memories :( i wish they would upgrade it like they did with Microsoft Flight Simulator.
World of subways: the path was well ahead of its time with lighting in tunnels
For realism, tunnels wouldn't be so lit up (like the London Underground - it's very dark in normal operation).
Yeah so is their 4th New York Line 7 I own loads of Train Sim's and the visuals are surreal in most of World Of Subway series and Dovetail games.
@@Thorpe Hello limbo boi

Damn this graphics engine was good! But physics was completely unrealistic together with bad optimisation.
2001 graphics for 20 years almost. I hope Microsoft one day gets back in with a new train simulator.
🤣
Yes. It will finally give dovetail a reason to change their game!
you guys do know that Raiworks/TS 2021 is basically MSTS, right? since Dovetail/Kuju acquired the Train Simulator brand back in 2003?

True! There's no difference between TS2018-2019-2020-2021
Well not really because you only get new dlc or so called routes with it but you didn't have to buy a new game all the time.
@zulfikangga psst we don't talk about that here 😅😅😅
@zulfikangga over 10k 😅
But Train Sim World (2) not (at least not now)
Literally everyone messed around msts

Didt knew that the Microsoft Train Sim is almost 20 years old :D still play it sometimes :D
yeah MSTS should get a new version now that MSFS has one.
You forgot Trainz: A New Era
And the newer one they got too. Pretty sure that was in the video thumbnail too..
Come on. Passenger announcements in 2008 World of subways volume 3 London underground circle lane. Better than we got now
