The thing about Gokus time limit is that his body is sort of charged with a limited amount of energy which should under normal circumstances last for the whole 24 hours. However now as a Super Saiyan 3 he is burning an unsustainable amount of energy which then drains his time on earth.
This transformation brings out Goku's saiyan side alot more. He always been pure earthling good u know like a saiyan earthling more or less. But SSJ3 brings out his heritage more than ever. Sean Schemmel is truely goated. Just like how Piccolo and Vegeta are voiced by the same VA (Chris Sabat), Goku and King Kai are also voiced by the same VA (Sean Schemmel).
Even though this transformation came out of nowhere without any sort of explanation, like a big glaring plot hole, it's still remarkable how well it fits into the story.
Ya know what i love about Super Saiyan 3, 4 and even Super Broly's 'Wrath' state? They all have one thing in common. The Saiyan Iconography. Something that relates all three forms to their heritage as superpowered alien monkey-men. Which is what Goku IS. Super Saiyan 3 and then 4 were at the TOP of the power scaling for DECADES until God was introduced. Now Broly's wrath state where his eyes go yellow, which is not only the same color as Super Saiyan 4 but it's mere concept is the same btw, is now one of the MOST powerful forms in the show. And they ALL have that Saiyan iconography.
Even though SSJ3 is by far the most wasteful transformation from a Ki maintenance standpoint and is therefore the most inefficient, it’s impossible to ignore how freaking cool the overall aesthetic is. Fun fact: Sean Schimmel fainted while recording the screaming for the SSJ3 transformation because of how much air he was pushing out, and wasn’t paying attention to his breath control. He damn near suffocated himself doing it 🤣🤣🤣 If you listen during the transformation, you literally hear Sean’s voice breaking. That was why!
Definitely not the most useless, or wasteful 😩, he managed to hold buu back during this to give goten and trunks enough time to perfect the transformation, and goku as he said didn’t have enough time to perfect the form as he just learnt it in other world

The problem I personally had with Buu was you really couldn't tell if he was damaged at all. It just made the fights feel so tedious until the spirit bomb ending which I'm not a fan of (glad that shit wasn't used in super).
I don't know why, but whenever I listen to the background music when goku is transforming into ssj3, I feel like megaman is going to appear at any moment.

Super Saiyan transformations drain that life force energy, and SSJ3 takes the most extreme toll because of how powerful it is. Goku won't feel it because his dead body is way more durable than if he were alive.

As a fan of the Japanese score I got to admit Julius Dobos outdid the track by miles and it’s truly fantastic the scream and score are phenomenal and I appreciate Julius Dobos for this track (as he is the true composer of this track and NOT faulconer) and many others which helped compose great tracks such as Scott Morgan and Mike Smith

ssj3 be the reason I dont think gohan would of been able to beat buu even with 7 years of training, because ssj3 is a 4x mutliplier, and goku and vegeta were already stronger then ssj2 kid gohan, so in order for gohan to of been a threat to buu even after 7 years of training, he would of had to of gotten over 4x stronger but at the time I think a power wall has been hit, because clearly as vegeta was saying, Gohan's ssj2 was the peak of power, and buu is trading blows with a ssj3! thats crazy. As you'll learn ssj3 is not a very orthodox ssj transformation, its not something Goku could of learned if he was alive.

For reference, Super Saiyan 3 is 4x the strength of Super Saiyan 2. But keep in mind how strong Goku got in base over these 7 years as well.
