How about instead of initiative trackers that just look like popsicle sticks, you cnc basic player outlines (thief, fighter paladin, wizard) using waste wood, to the same thickness and the players can color them in and give them to the dm to use? God, I want to work at Wyrmwood!

I would love a small magnetic dice organizer and I think others would too.
It doesn’t even need to hold many dice, I’d be happy with one of each but bonus points if it has room for two of each.
As a DM I have a lot going on behind the screen, if I could simplify that partially by having my dice easily accessible by type mounted to my screen it would save me time and which translates to a better game for my players.

Putting another magnet set at the bottom of the panels of the GM screen sounds like a great idea. I mean for one, you can use the tablet hook as a pen/pencil holder. Another great way to incorporate more of your product ecosystem is that you guys can make the GM screens lock onto Hex trays, dice vaults, etc.

I love the tablet holder idea and I love the public/private dice tower idea! The status tracker is something I would want, but yeah, seems like a tough design. What if the top of the initiative tracker had holes drilled in it and you had color coded pegs that slot in like cribbage pegs? The DM can assign whatever status they want to different colors or you could have little symbols etched into the top to represent different statuses

Conditions can be side mounted then can add on from there. Dice tower could click into the screen with magnets as a panel extension. Mini shelves would be cool. LED logo part on front would be cool. Dice holder add on. Pencil holder. What if the iPad needs to be charged? Magnetic initiative trackers? Etc... I can go on lol I actually 3d printed my own screen with some of these ideas integrated into it.

  • @BardRaeLynFox
    @BardRaeLynFox 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Love the tablet holder idea. Y'all ever play Scrabble? I think the shape you're looking for is quite similar to a Scrabble tile holder: just a long, low wooden bar with a lip. Leave off the edges that keep letter tiles on, kick it out a bit more at the bottom (too steep an angle makes a tablet hard to read and interact with), run it the full width of the GM screen panel, attach to the panel with magnets, and voilà.

  • @Reyn_Roadstorm
    @Reyn_Roadstorm 2 ปีที่แล้ว

For status trackers, make them stack above the initiative tracker. The top of the initiative tracker as well as each status would narrow in at the top (for a visual, look up a capital A in the Westminster font). This would let each one fit onto the one below it. The tolerances would need to be loose enough that one in the middle or on the bottom of a stack could be removed easily, but still tight enough that a stack of 5+ wouldn't be wobbly.
For another visual, imagine a stack of 9 oz Solo cups (statuses) on top of a single 18 oz Solo cup (initiative) - only mostly all flattened out instead of round.
Also: the tablet holder is an easel. It's a Tablet Easel, and you could actually make it work similar to a fold up picture easel, but instead of a single center hinge, a hinge on each side so you can adjust it for a wider or narrower tablet or whatever you want to hold up.

    The tablet holder sounds amazing!
I personally use a phone to control music, one to always have my player's stats up on D&D Beyond, and a tablet to run everything else.
If the little wooden holders could optionally be put closer together to hold phones as well it would be amazing.
I'd love to see some little dice-holding shelves you could attach to the magnet strips at the top, or a mini magnetic dice tower for the inside, if you're planning on adding more optional accessories.
All in all, this looks like an incredible product. Can't wait to get my hands on one!

    yknow what wyrmlyfe needs....
It needs a lil clip on microphone for the cameraman, whoever that sexy beast may be. Because their voice is the only voice in the entire company to be muffled because they're talking into the back of the microphone.
Also, an idea for the condition tracking. Could you make thin acrylic sleeves that slot over the initiative trackers (like small rectangles super short so you could stack them vertically on the tracker) That would solve the messiness of the rings, which I know that you were trying to include the rings, but I don't believe that there's a solution that's clean enough for your tastes.
Love Wyrmlyfe so much. You guys are awesome!

MGT magnetic rail compatibility would be rad! You guys make a player desk for the MGT, how about a DM desk? Make it extra wide, can slot in a DM screen and the new batch of accessories. If you guys did a public private tower then you could also attach it to the DM desk so that the private one dropped off onto the DM desk and the public one rolled out onto the table top

  • @gargonovich

For condition tracking, what if the tracker had a little slot in the top with a magnet, and then each condition also had that slot and magnet? You could daisy-chain them together for multiple conditions, and maybe make them out of whiteboard stuff so you can write on them and thus not have to give people a million of them. Something like this, maybe:
    __ __
    | |___| |
    | | Status widget
    |___|
    |
    |
    |
    V

Going to agree with a lot of other comments, condition rings go on the mini. Or players track them or something like that, don't need the visual clutter up top.
While the 2 way dice tower is cool. I'd never use it. 99% of my rolls are private. For the maybe 1 roll a session that I do public, I can just roll on the table or communal dice tray.
For a tablet holder, I feel like most tablets already come with covers or kickstands that put them at a good angle, I don't see the need for an additional solution.
Also agree with others, a storage solution like you had in the original would be very handy. I'd argue it could just as easily be a stand-alone product, doesn't need tower integration. Something with a number of compartments for my spare dice (for large spell damage), storing condition trackers, a few minis, things like that.

I would go with a wooden initiative tracker that’s an inch wide and and inch tall. As thick as the screen or a little thinner. Ideally, it’d just be a little block of wood with magnets on the top and bottom. Then make condition trackers that are little blocks of wood half inch tall or whatever is readable and have them click on top the initiative tracker with magnets. Making them different colors would be great. The easiest way to do that is either to make them colored acrylic or glue a thin piece of acrylic to a little block of wood. They’re always talking about the wood waste. This would be another idea to use some of the scraps up.
Also I love that Jason is looking back at that original Kickstarter. That’s still the setup I’d love to have (minus maybe the flipping screen in the middle). I wouldn’t reinvent the dice tower. You sell a dice tower. Modify it to allow GM screen sections to snap on either side.

Regarding the tablet holder: Some people don't have tablets but have laptops. What if, instead of resting the tablet screen on a holder in front of the panel, you make it so that the screen could be its own panel? You could make side rails that slide over the left and right side of a tablet or laptop screen, and then those rails magnetically attach to the other panels of the GM screen. That way, regardless of whether or not it's a tablet or laptop screen, it slots easily into the GM screen.

WAIT A GODDAMN MINUTE THE TABLET HOLDER WOULD BE INCREDIBLE. I have a keyboard case on my iPad and I use it for D&D Beyond whenever I run my games. I’m on the site CONSTANTLY during sessions. I basically have a folding table to myself so I have the room for my iPad but having it on my DM screen would be amazing. Make it a little ledge and you can use it for writing utensils too, for the top OR bottom edge of your DM screen!!! I would ditch the keyboard case while DMing if I could have a cheeky little ledge on my DM screen for my iPad or even for my phone, which I ALSO use during D&D! I keep the player’s basic stats open in the D&D Beyond app so I have their HP, AC and passive stats at a glance.

Scrap the condition tracker idea. Easiest thing is to give us a bit of space on the initiative tracker and we can write the conditions or whatever information we need.
The Screen slot/ tablet trough is a great idea.
Not everything about the GM screen has to be formed around d&d rules and should be kept as a nice looking blank canvas for us to put what we need as GMs onto it.

The tablet holder seems like a really good idea however the weight of the tablet(and the fact that you manipulate the tablet by pushing against it and the screen) may create some stability issues. It might be a good idea to create feet that exist on the outside of the gm screen (facing the players) that clip onto the bottom of the gm screen panels. These feet would also be attached to the "stand" on the inside of the gm screen as one solid piece. That way you could slot the feet/stand onto any of the panels initially, then attach your other panels once it is situated.

If you really need condition markers on your initiative tracker, take an idea from Lego. put a depression on top of your initiative piece and make piece that slots into it that are the same dimensions as the tracker, but painted to match the condition rings. Put a depression on top of your status markers and you can stack as many as you need, a rainbow of conditions even, on each initiative tracker.

When Doug started drawing his condition ring hanger initiative tracker I thought he was drawing a puzzle piece. What if you had a pretty simple and small character initiative tracker, and then a condition status puzzle piece could slot into it. Could have separate pieces for different conditions or generic magnet pieces that use those little magnet bars.

If you're going to do the tablet trough, you will want the accessory to actually hold the bottom of the tablet. Some table / tablet combos are quite slippery and you don't want someone's tablet accidently sliding off the table.

the Tablet legs could just pop out of the DM screen; like a partial cut out or mechanic sort of ledge so there are no separate pieces that you could lose. If you had to separate pieces, they could be stored in the screen, just incase the DM isn't using a tablet but a separate notebook, etc.

Since tablets come in different sizes, I would think that a magnetic rest at either end, joined by a long ledge would be best since it would cater for everything. Some people might even buy 3 screens, and 3 rests. But you could also use similar clamps/rests/attachments to hang or support other things. A card with your current game's rules on it. A card with your map on it etc etc. That's assuming the entire screen isn't magnetic. Or... a thin sheet of magnetic whiteboard material, to turn the back of that screen into a whiteboard, from which you can hang more magnets for notes/rules etc.

Die Tower: Just add magnets to the existing tower product. The GM screen then clips either side "as is".
Tablet holder: simplest option - two magnetised holders that fold flat in the accessory pocket of the carrier.

As a DM and player, I'd never use condition trackers/rings on the Initiative Tracking. You want them around your miniatures so you're actively seeing them on the map and thinking about how it effects your tactics. Putting them on the initiative would likely lead to forgetting they were there or having to do both. The only possible situation I see that being useful is for Theater of the Mind stuff when there's no miniatures or map.

The tablet holder should be made such that it could also hold a D&D book. It would be nice to use it for a tablet or a adventure book/monster manual.

I say abandon the conditions on the combat tracker, but sub in a way to view whether a character has its reaction available or not, like a tiny mailbox flag. The condition circles look better on the minis anyway.

5 min in.. please don't worry about condition trackers on the initiative trackers. Imo it's trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist. IF anything, have something like "held action".
Edit: For the slot trough, how possible would it be to have it integrated in with the panel, so the GM could just pop it out? Then when to store it, they just fold it back in and it's flush with the panel?

    Idea for the status tracker:
The version where you held the status rings looks exactly like a jigsaw piece. So just make the status as jigsaw pieces that would "infinitely" stack on top of the character tracker.

  • @BColleran

What about a DM screen section that you can add (when you order it) that would have the size that would cradle in the tablet (hole size specified when ordering the screen) and then a mechanism to secure it in place. That way you don't get too much space taken away from behind the DM screen. Also for the status effects, maybe stackable triangles. Kinda like how bins stack but small oval strips with wording on them and color coded based on type of condition.

Potential problem I forsee with the hanging the rings on the imitative tracker is it blocks the name on the imitative tracker, The hat version would alleviate this but both versions do look a little to cluttered IMHO. What about something similar to like the caster tile or the Paladin RPG tracking system, where you have little indentations for each status and you use ball bearing to intonate which status the player has? There are a lot of status conditions but you could probably replace some of them with colored ball bearings like have a different color for each level of exhaustion. Another possible solution would be to make the initative tracker pieces more narrow and a bit taller so the rings would slide on all the way to the bottom that way they aren't blocking the name

Y'all have a 3D printer. you can print your own shape that could fit on your initiative tracker and act as stackign lego hats or something. You can also offer the STL file to folks to print their own.

I use a laptop instead of a tablet, so the tablet holder wouldn't help me much. But I use Improved Initiative for initiative tracking, and have a player-facing screen to show them initiative, maps, or other visuals.
If the tablet holder product could be player facing, I could see hunting for a portable monitor that could fit in it... So that'd save some room...

What if you did the GM screen position tracker like a "T" with a wide base that goes into the GM screen slot, and then it has the persons/characters name going down the middle of the vertical leg and have all the condition rings hanging off either side of the horizontal bar.

The condition trackers were made to be put on the minis, I think it should stay that way. Anyone would love a basic but awesome initiative tracker though.
As for the tablet holder, it's almost a necessity for a lot of us and I would love to have that option available. I was recently thinking of buying an arm that would attach to the table to hold the tablet but if you can make it more convenient attaching it to the screen, I'm all ears. Overall the screen is starting to look real good!

Please keep thinking with the initiative tracker. Being able to elegantly track conditions would be really nice. I liked the little magnets thing, but maybe make it a bit larger, and bright colors obviously.
Or have two rails so you can overlap stuff. Like having a piece for the character, and one that hovers behind and over the top which can list conditions. I know you like keeping things simple but not everyone at the consumer end likes simple, and I think a lot of those people might be DMs ;) At a bare minimum at least give me a larger tracker I can write on and put behind so I can use my own condition color coding using dry-erase markers.
Having rings would be convenient for matching, but you could just as easily have your tracker magnets color match with a set of third party rings you sell anyway. If you have to do the rings thing I'd actually prefer a single hook at the top to pile them on, even if it's less cool looking. You could try to source rings with the writing facing outwards too, so that it's readable from the edge-side.
The way I see it there are a lot of cool ways to do this.
