    Shoe Goo is incredibly hard to source in Australia so I’ve been waiting neatly 12 months to source some and fix my Merrells. Your video is perfect and doesn’t rush anything so finally I’m ready to repair! (Aussies - you can get Shoe Goo at Athletes Foot but even they have troubles with supply)

    I have some scraps of moose leather from a moccasin maker. Combined with shoe goo you can do all sorts of repairs, even to sandal straps. The leather also makes a handy patch for that spot on the back of the ankle that always gets sharp at the inside rear.

    • @SwitchAndLever
      @SwitchAndLever  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aye, though I tend to just epoxy glue in a big patch of leather in the back of the shoe once it starts wearing out. The epoxy adds a little stiffness as well. If you look closely you can even see that inside the shoe in this video.

    Hi,
    Try diluting some of the shoo goo with toluene for a thinner application. Also, using toluene and a small brush, you can smooth out the applied thick goo.

      @SwitchAndLever  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good tip, but unfortunately not easy to come by over here, and ice works just swell if you don’t want to play around with solvents.

    • @ragnarhairybreeks
      @ragnarhairybreeks 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi,
      Funny, here in Canada I can buy toluene at the hardware store. It’s is the solvent in the shoe goo, for what ever that’s worth . I’ve also added dried pigment ( carbon black ) to the slightly thinned shoe goo.
      I often find the shoe goo right out of the tube is to thick for the application needed. If you thin it down, you can paint on thin layers as get a nice effect. An example would be waterproofing on heat shrink tubing covered wire connections.
      In any case, always enjoy your vids.
      Alistair

      @SwitchAndLever  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There is surely some overlap. I've found that Shoe Goo is better for areas with higher wear, like soles, whereas Sugru works great where it's either impractical to use a liquid (since it's more a clay consistency) and areas with less wear. They're both great products though.
