@Emery98 The main purpose of this holster's design is not speed, it is protection from dirt, damage, and loosing the gun in a field environment, just as Sootch said in the video. It accomplishes the above three missions exceedingly well, and is designed for maximum flexibility of use. When speed is essential, there are other holsters available in the military supply system, such as those for garrison MP's, or dropdown thigh rigs for field use.
'It was tighter the first couple of times I tried it." That's true of many things in life. Thanks for the video, it helped me add the strap as the written instructions were not totally clear.
I bought a UM84 and thumbsnap in about 1989 but never installed the thumbsnap. I couldn't figure out how to install it. The instructions are long gone. I couldn't believe you made this video! Thanks!!!
I just got an M-12 holster from ebay today and I can't believe I didn't see if sootch or nutnfancy had a review for it first! good thing it looks like a promising investment and I will DEFINATELY be looking into the thumb strap.
it looks like it may be a pretty good mod for certain situations the only thing i dont like about the thumb snap is it can be a pain to resnap and the flap offers good protection its good the holster is so versatile
Cool, thanks for the review, I am a big fan of these holsters too. FOr that price I'll get a few for my holsters too Am I crazy, or does it look like you could put the flap back on after adding the thumb strap??
Another great review. I have this holster. The flap is good for transit and keeping the dust, rain and crud out. I haven't tried the thumbsnap yet, but will. Thanks again Sooch00.
just fyi, there is a model of this holster that closes off the opening where the trigger guard is. this provides added safety for Glock type pistols in that nothing can get in to pull on the trigger...
I found this holster at buds with the thimb strap for like $8 bought as soon as i saw it. Going to use it for my M&P .40 they also make an adapter to fit MOLLE rigs
awsome looks very nice, but do they make the holster any smaller or is it that large to accommodate any size pistol? I know you mentioned that it was to fit a beretta however i have a 21sf and that holster looks like it would swamp it. but i love the system. have you had any problems out of it yet?
Looks like a great holster for my full size XDM when I'm out in woods or hiking. I've always liked a lower riding holster for anything other than ccw. One where the gun handle is belt high. And having a flap would be perfect for that use.
Hows the training coming for the tac shoot with Nutn coming along? also, how about a gear list video, like showing us the gear you plan on using and why you chose that particular gear. I for one think it would be an awesome vid.
Man, I like that holster, sootch00. Now I want one. Thank you for the post and demo, sootch00! If all else fails, read the instructions :) I've been there and done that many a time my friend :) ~God Bless!
Good job Sootch00, I have been using the holster for 25 years with 1911's. Wanted to use it with my Glock23 but did not like the big flap. the thumb break is just the ticket for the woods
It is a nice holster, and that strap is great. You can use the strap most times for faster draw, and use the flap when the weather is bad. I think it is just a bit to expecive for the entire system though for what it is. Just me being cheap I am sure, lol.
Hey Sootch.00 - Like your videos. I picked up a UM84/92 holster for my Springfield mil-spec m1911a1. I also brought the thumbstrap attachment . Slight problem is the thumbstrap is just a wee bit too long. 1/4 in. too long so I have to snap it below my beavertail to ensure a tight containment of my pistol. Your thoughts on how I can tighten the thumbstrap up so there is not as much play. Thanks
For the record, the thumb strap has been around ever since the Bianchi Holster came out back in the 1980's. It was just not used that much as there wasn't a big need for it for it. If I recall it had and NSN number for it.
Sootch, I'm dying to see you use the CMR scope when you go shooting with Nutn and to hear how he likes it. I've been saving up for an ACOG RCO for my 20" USMC style A4gery, but in the mean time I think I might grab a CMR. I started using my UM holster again after watching your vids. You should charge a commission. haha
Think I got my thumbstrap woes squared away. I put a layer of cut t-shirt at the inside bottom of the holster. This elevates the pistol (M1911a1) up and allows the snap and stcocking handle rap to securely keep the rear of the cocking hammer secure . People say yalove an AR15 then you gotta love a ,45 acp pistol. Believe a lot of them do.
Man, I love that system Sootch! And I can put the flap back on in adverse environments. Very cool rig. I'm going to give it a try. Colors? Price? Thumbs up bro. ~Wolf
To make the top flap more "idiot proof" in stressful situations, seems to me you could tie some paracord in a cow hitch around the pull tab and yank on that instead - easier to get ahold of in a hurry, and easier to pull straight down.
The strap is supposed to go over the back of the slide, not over the grip. You should be able to establish a grip before releasing the thumb-break snap. Over the grip like you have show can result in fumbling and dropping the gun.
There's absolutely no reason to put a revolver in that holster; they make an almost identical one just for revolvers so people won't do that in the original. It's labelled the UM84R.
@sootch00 But why do a review on an obsolete or antiquated holster seems like a waste of time. I look forward to your reviews and I like many of them but are you loosing your comfort zone to compete with others.
Great video. I recently purchased this holster after seeing you use it on a Run n Gun. I just received my Thumb Strap. I also found a great leg extender for this holster made by Specter Gear. Check it out at opticsplanet net Specter gear M12 tactical drop leg extender kit... It is a little pricey at 30 bucks but it is better than the standard issue hip extender.
Totally inappropriate music at the end of the video, considering it's a Bianchi Holster... Something "Spanish" would have been more appropriate, considering most of Bianchi's holsters are now made in Mexico.
@1StepTooFar Hey Slick I did give a better option in my reply. Maybe you should read before you choose to make an more intelligent comments. I suggested the Serpa Holster which makes this one look very obsolete. Get your facts straight before you decide to comment in ignorance.

Sootch, this is the type of holster I've been looking for! Thanks for uploading!
Thanks for the video! I fought with their instructions too. This is a great universal holster. I bought their WEBB pistol belt as well.
"Large frame revolvers" that's one for the blooper reel.
+Tom Blank N frames are large frame revolvers.
I always enjoy your reviews and music.
Very nice set-up and a great review as always! Thanks Sootch.
the glock is my favorite revolver lol

what is the name of the bumper music at the end? google doesn't know and I like it
Great review as always Sootch! Thanks!!
Thorough review, as usual. Thanks
just fyi, there is a model of this holster that closes off the opening where the trigger guard is. this provides added safety for Glock type pistols in that nothing can get in to pull on the trigger...
nice holster
You mentioned "widow maker" do we really need an more dead or injured troops? Even with the thumb snap it is a bad choice.
I don’t use anything on top keep it open the gun sticks in unless you stand on your head.

@TeslaRifle Not quite as versatile but Bianchi makes the 7000 AccuMold Sporting Holster for the Ruger .22lr pistols
Great holster with the thumbstrap installed it's going on my wish list.

Nice, if i had that holster, i would definitely get that thumb strap
Thanks for the overview!

Ok, so now that would definitely work with my S&W 1911 with it’s big ‘ol beaver tail. Thanks.
Good job Sootch00, I have been using the holster for 25 years with 1911's. Wanted to use it with my Glock23 but did not like the big flap. the thumb break is just the ticket for the woods
I had one in black but I sold it a while back. Had i known that you could mod it I might not have sold it.
How did this work for you in the nutnfancy shoot? It looks like reholstering and securing it would take two hands to reattach the thumb break?
It is a nice holster, and that strap is great. You can use the strap most times for faster draw, and use the flap when the weather is bad. I think it is just a bit to expecive for the entire system though for what it is. Just me being cheap I am sure, lol.
How do you go about mounting the UM84 to PALS webbing?

@guns4good aug, i was planning on using one for my XDM im getting, there goes that idea
how much is the holster + the strap? lol and how many times have you practiced the ending, lol you got it down perfect
you get a new camera sootch? this video looks much clearer.
thanks for the review. Just picked up one on ebay.
Enjoyed your videos very much! Can you please tell me where you got the Bianchi hoster and thumb quick release? Thanks.
Thats a neat holster. It dont look like one could size the retention strap to tighten or loosin the retention though.
Great vid as always!

@Sootch00 It looks like you age a bit since you moved. it is a nice holster for civilian application.
Will this holster fit a 1911? And would you consider it better than a m1916 holster?
Would the sig p320 and browning hi power fit??
Man, I love that system Sootch! And I can put the flap back on in adverse environments. Very cool rig. I'm going to give it a try. Colors? Price? Thumbs up bro. ~Wolf
Will one of them fit a Walther ppq .45

@BushidoDevildog I could see it in a paratrooper role but when is speed in combat not essential.
I used that holster to carry the M9 beretta. No one called it the "widowmaker."
I think that's a general term for flap holsters.
Will a standard M12/UM84 fit a Glock 21?
+miniconsrus Have you found out yet? I might want one for mine.
I'll stick with my serpa. I think it's smaller and allows for a faster draw.
The strap is supposed to go over the back of the slide, not over the grip. You should be able to establish a grip before releasing the thumb-break snap. Over the grip like you have show can result in fumbling and dropping the gun.
Good video, thanks
Looks good
im thinking about getting one off amazon my milspec 1911a1
Would a Glock 19 fit?
What I wanna know, but if G17 fits, the 19 Should. He has a 17 in this
good vid
Good solution for troops unable to use a serpa...still like the serpa myself though...lol
Will this holster fit a colt 1911? Thank you.
Frank yes
There's absolutely no reason to put a revolver in that holster; they make an almost identical one just for revolvers so people won't do that in the original. It's labelled the UM84R.
USGI Surplus holsters be cheap asf tho
i like it nice and simple
Where is you video. What gives you any credited opinion?
Look at Serpa Holsters.
thats nice
@sootch00 wow thats a bummer!
@sootch00
But why do a review on an obsolete or antiquated holster seems like a waste of time. I look forward to your reviews and I like many of them but are you loosing your comfort zone to compete with others.

He said revolver I think you need pistol
Sootch looks 25 in this video lol
hmm, that's neat.
I turned video off after....calling a pistol a revolver

serpa
😂😂💀💀 this holster will get you killed, to much time to draw, better off with the saferiland QLS holsters you will live longer lol
Learn grammar smooth brain.
Loosing trust in you Sootch. That is such a slow holster. Can not believe you are promoting it.
