Most people say it's not a fast draw type holster, handgun weapons in the military are are for secondary use to the primary weapon system. "M-4, M-16"weapons
A quick tip I've found to make drawing from the UM84 holster almost effortless is to tie a length of braided webbing or a dongle of Paracord at the end of the black D-ring. The extra torque makes it feel effortless to pull it open from the side, rather than struggling with the fine motor action of pulling down on that little D-ring, and looking like a fool.
I was issued one when the Beretta M9s first came out, major improvement over the leather flap 45 holsters. The cleaning rod is good for punching the bore if needed, beats using a stick. I still have one, fits my 1911, and glocks, very tight fit for my 2011 non- rail gun. FYI: Bianchi still sells the thumbsnap system for this holster, it lets you use the holster without the flap.
Its a bomb proof holster I have abused these as well in training and other Marines the best thing about this holster you can put just about any full size pistol. Its a great design for what it was designed for.
Just got one of these for when I’m in the woods! I daily carry my Beretta 92A1 in a concealed IWB holster, which is my preferred way of carrying, but it’s uncomfortable to hike with. When looking at the range of OWB holsters available, a lot of them are really nice but not so protective for going through brush. The manual safety and hammer are left exposed by most. So I decided on one of these as it seems to be extremely protective.
When I went to do M9 qual NCOs told me to go buy my own holster and not use the M12. Several years later I use an M12 on my 2-Gun setup and, while reholstering is a pain, it works well enough for me.
SonOfTheDawn515 some of the dudes who do the crazy 2 gun where you crawl under and climb over things and carry and throw junk like these because of their great retention and protection from dust and debris
Brings back USMC memories seeing this holster! I use a $40 Safariland 578 as a universal field holster. Paddle works good, easy on and off but stays put...can use included belt loop attachment or any other Safariland attachment you want though. Very good drop and leg options. Secure, fast, and intuitive draw and reholster with GLS mechanism, optic and suppressor height sights friendly, etc. Recommend people check it out.
I carry one of these in black (I am an armed guard), and it has prevented a dude from taking my gun when we were in a fight. The only thing I did to this holster was add some paraccord to assist in undoing the flap
During the army stationing national guardsmen in airports after 9/11 were using M9s in the M12 holsters on their web belts. They were also running the lanyard attachments too , I suspect the M12 is issued in applications where a web belt around the waist is more common. In Iraq there was far more sidearm usage then expected and the leg carried Blackhawk SERPA was easier to draw from and was quicker into combat then the standard flap setup. The flap style holster is still more protective and in applications where the goal is to protect the gun and prevent unauthorized drawing a flap is good for that
I use the M1415 thumb strap on my M12 holster in lieu of the flap(unless I’m in the woods) as my preferred method to use this holster. I own the entire system for this holster and love how versatile it is. Thanks for the review o7 13F FISTER 🇺🇸🇺🇸
7:20 I remove the clamp, and fasten the two ends of the flap's ring with the upper ends of the slits together respectively using zip ties (with the unnecessary extended parts cut away). Also. the D-ring can be flipped and concealed between the flap and the hook. Tried the thumbsnap system before but it doesn't work well (Beretta, Glock)! It may look dopey/bulky in terms of concealed carry, competitive shooting. But do think 1 it still allows fast draw; 2 it protects the gun and works better (than those Safarilands ?!) in extreme environment conditions e.g. the hot and humid jungle in East Asia.
The perfect SHTF holster, at least in my opinion. It fits 1911, Beretta M9 and full sized Glock perfectly, basically any dead soldier or dead cops's side arm will fit.
I was given a beretta m9 in the army once when I was a saw gunner. No holster nothing. I stuck it in my front pocket. I'd never do that with any other pistol.
I love how the style of this holster is a modern version of the WWI 1911 holster, which I will always think is one of the classiest holster design our military has ever had. Not very speed draw friendly, but classy. But who needs to quick draw, when you have a Winchester Trench Model shotgun? LOL. Do you think this would fit my S&W 1911 with the big beaver tail. I think that I might have to use the thumb strap.
Speed draw isn't as important for troops cause a rifle is the primary weapon and they have backup with rifles so this is still very much viable today, fits many service autos not like a kydex made only for a specific model, is modular for such an old design, clips to LC2 belts and can work with MOLLE.
The issue holster for a beretta 80 series is a leather style flap rig. It normally was worn on an officers uniform belt. These types of holsters were very common in Europe at that time as you were likely to have your service gun in hand when facing trouble as you should have drawn it before hand

Did this and it’s a dream for opening the flap!
Still using mine.
Love your stuff. It’s like every bit of mil surplus gear I get into you’ve got covered. Thanks for the content!

PC B I’m looking for a good retention holster and funny enough only own 1911’s and an M9. This might be perfect

I use this holster for years now. I fits a CZ 75b perfectly.
9:38, to draw one grabs a handful of holster. Good educational video.

Does it fit with the rail on the M9A1?

The holster wasn't designed with 2/3 gun in mind. More for safe and does well in protecting the firearm.

Thanks for the heads up on the usp not fitting!

I use one for coyote hunting as a good protective holster while woods walking.

I have the m12 myself and with a little practice you can draw from it very quickly
Very good informative review. Thanks

Great for rain, mud, snow, dirt, some dust, although you can put gun in a plastic bag to keep dust out.
I always felt like the “cleaning” tool was actually supposed to be used to snort coke whilst on the front lines....
Just bought this holster.I have the tp9sf pray it fits
It should. Again it's all about trigger guard position, not really barrel length.
Did this holster work with the TP9SF?
Are you sure it woun't fit usp 45? Alot of people say it does.
Fits my Glock 21 just fine. I put a paracord pull on the D ring and it makes it easier to open the flap.
Thanks for the review man, have you ever seen anyone modify the plastic stopper/washer to fit guns with longer trigger guards?
Never seen that
i'm in the market for my milspec 1911a1 holster i heard about the um84/m12 holster
Hmm what about a M1911 TAC with the punisher comp attached?
Not likely lol
@@doitriteak you know what I'm saying?
it doesn't fit a Sig Sauer Sp2022 very well either. Its fits but its very tight. Works fine with a Glock 17 or 19 and also a 1911 Government Model
Indeed
Considering one for a P226. I can't seem to find a difinitive answer as to whether it fits or not.
Interesting. I have all three (226, 2022, and 1911 Gov), I was hoping they’d all fit. I’m surprised with the shorter barrel the 2022 is tight.
Agree that Glock, Sig226, 1911A1, S&W MP also fit. May have to leave it overnite to help stretch just a little.
I know this is an old school holster. But, I wish it could be used with a pistol with a red dot optic and an attached light.
Use it as a model and improve it with your remake.
@doitriteak hello, would a beretta 92X centurion fit in it ? Thanks
Yup
does this fit a beretta 92a1?
Yes but tightly
@@doitriteak thanks i remeber you saying it kinda did in the video but i appreciate the confronmation 100% as im going to buy it now.
I bet a S and W 5906 would fit just right.
Fits my Glock 21 just fine.
Does anyone know if an FNP45 will fit in the M12?
I’m searching for something to use for a surplus beretta 81.think this would work?any other suggestions? Thx
It may be a bit large for an 81

Can 1911 government fit
Yes. It was made to fit it
It;s only looking dopey because you don't have a Beretta in it
No! It does not look dopey on you, though your unarmed neighbors probably look dopey.
Cringe
