  • This is a playthrough using Uranus in the Arcade version of Battle Arena Toshinden 2. Read on below for more information...
    Uranus is the sub-boss of the game, and she is a non-selectable character in this version of it.
    ===== STORY =====
    Uranus is the second-in-command of the criminal organization Himitsu Kessha. She serves the group's leader Master well but has sought to overthrow her and become the new leader. Prior to joining the organization, Uranus was an ordinary woman and the girlfriend of Duke B. Rambert.
    When she learned that Gaia, one of her co-workers, had hosted the first Toshinden tournament behind the Himitsu Kessha's back in order to start a rebellion, she declared him a traitor and marked him for death. Upon being confronted, Gain managed to escape and went into hiding.
    A second Toshinden tournament was hosted where an invitation was sent to Gaia out to lure him out. Even though Gaia did indeed accept and enter the tournament, Uranus and Master was eventually defeated by Sho Shinjo, who had confronted the pair at their headquarters.
    ===== DESIGN =====
    Uranus is one those "armoured-angelic" female characters you often see in JRPGS and MMORPGS... in Uranus' case, she also seems to be of the "aristocrat" type (which makes sense considering she dated Duke B. Rambert). She no doubt looks the best when she is in her default white colour palette.
    Her weapon is the Suzaku Bow, which is one of the Four Sacred Arms.
    ===== GAMEPLAY =====
    She is a very powerful character... as her weapon is of a "bow and arrow" type, she naturally has a lot of projectile moves with both high and low variations. Mobility/movement-wise she is slow, but her attacks definitely make up for it. For the basic Slashes she utilizes her wings, which has good reach.
    Her Fire Hawk special move is one her best moves to use against the CPU opponents as not only does it come out fast, it also inflicts massive damage.
    Interestingly her Jumping HK is not an attack but makes her fly instead, which is unique and unorthadox for the game's attack mechanics.
    ===== OTHER INFORMATION / TRIVIA =====
    ---- When you complete the game with her in single-player mode, after you enter in your initials, her icon appears perfectly on the Ranking screen despite being an unplayable character.
    ---- She actually has alternate colour palettes despite being a non-playable character. This may suggest that she was originally intended to be a selectable character.
    ---- On the character select screen, when Uranus is highlighted, her cursor position is in the place of Ellis.
    ---- If you play though single-player mode with her, she doesn't get to face herself on Stage 7. Instead, she will face a regular character. She meets Master on the final stage. Again, this is another indication that she may have been originally planned to be a playable character.
    ---- She does not appear to have any Throws.
    ---- It is strongly implied that she is the mother of Puella Marionette (from Toshinden 4) as she carries Uranus' bow.
    ---- According to development materials, Uranus was originally designed in mind to have a bird-like mecha armor exoskeleton, perhaps similar to Gaia's Armour Basara. She also did not have the Suzaku Bow in this design, as she was implied to fight with hand-to-hand martial arts with the flight capability of her armor to strike her opponents with a beak-like-helmet.
    ---- By using external methods you can bring up Sho and Vermilion's slots/names on the character select screen, but these names are in the game as placeholders with there being no actual character data in them. If you select them, the game will crash before it enters the match. You can see this being demonstrated here: • Battle Arena Toshinden...

    ===== ABOUT TOSHINDEN 2 ARCADE =====
    The Battle Arena Toshinden franchise has always been the "forgotten uncle" of fighting games... whilst the earlier games have decent character designs and music, the thing that has always let the series down is the gameplay when compared to the big mainstream 3D fighting games. And BAT2 suffers from the same fate as well.
    BAT2 takes the prequel and refines and fleshes it out so that it becomes more of a "complete" package. Many fans consider this to be the best game of the series, particularly the PS1 version.
