I am building a Stihl 066 and ms660 right now to replace a 066 flat top and a 064 that I want to retire from full-time logging. The current 500i fever has made for quite a few 066/660 saws come up for sale. Not cheap but worth buying.
One hundred and two gallons through my 660 in a year now, running premium non ethanol with 40:1 echo red armor, there is no buildup on my piston crown, or in the squish band, which I set at .019 with a custom gasket. Running husqvarna or stihl orange bottle mix previously yielded me different results, with lots of carbon.
I do tree work and love the old saws currently using 038av /044av also use a Husqvarna 340 from1999 love that little saw wish they still made newer saws as durable as the old ones
I always enjoy your videos Donny. I’ve learned a lot in the past year just listening to your wisdom. I ordered a 500i from you guys about a month ago. I’m pretty excited to try it as I’ve never ran a ported saw before. Hopefully you guys will get some in soon, but I’m afraid it’s going to be sometime before that happens. Yes sir, I ordered it about a month ago. I ordered it Walkerized with the bark box and heavier suspension spring and buffer. I can’t wait to try it out. I’m trying to be patient with all of the back order issues. John said it will probably be another month or two at least. The wait will be worth it. Thanks Donny and keep up the good work man.
Another awesome video Donny.. Thanks for the tip on cleaning the carbon out the combustion chamber. I've been using a piece of sandpaper taped to the end of a screwdriver handle.. Takes a bit of work but the results are good.. Use what you got and never give up hahah.. All the best to you my Canadian brother.. SLANT'E
I rebuilt quite a few 044s over the winter and there WAS buildup on the combustion chamber and piston - idk if it was quite .020 but a considerable amount , enuff to cause issue imho
Lonely int front, better to be in the middle of the pack, a great analogy Donny. Really enjoying your content, and looking forward to the 80CC shootout. I often think, when someone rings you up, wants a tree down, can't describe the type / size / situation, - take an 80 CC saw.
Those old 066 were a legend of a saw. I built one up from several blown up one's and it went for year's and years.
Yes they were probably the most long lasting and most reliable saw🪵👍

I will never trade in my trusted reliable 660 for a 500i.
The 066 is my most favorite saw to work on, don’t know why I just have a fondness for it!

Hello Donny I use a small portable blaster with baking soda to clean those combustion Chambers then I polish them to a mirror finish .
That’s cool never thought of that I usually do clean new ones but you know what old ones are like thanks bud

Badass saws ported i run a ported 066 everyday falln timber. I don't feel normal if i ain't falln wit a 066 jus so used to em.have a good weekend.
