      Prefab fireplace. Exterior is boxed out as a chase for usually 18" double wall chimney pipe (wood burning FP) from fireplace to above roof line. Vinyl siding the chase box is perfectly legal

    What amazes me with each house fire in TH-cam videos, is the fact that you can almost set your watch for ten minutes before one drop of water ever hits the house on a structure fire.

    Have a competent gas technician check your gas logs and a chimney sweep to verify the internal chimney structure every year or at most two. When we purchased our old house the chimney in the living room was used for a wood burner. We immediately had both fireplace boxes and the chimneys looked at and found the previous owners had been burning wood inside of a box that was highly compromised (you could see the interior walls inside holes in the box!) AND one of the chimneys going through the attic had lost a great deal of its mortar and you could see where smoke had been coming out of the chimney and into the attic. I’m amazed the house did not burn down but of course we have completely remedied all problems because I don’t want my house to burn down. Fireplaces are pretty and can aide in keeping you warm, but not at the expense of your, your family’s lives or your possessions.
    Thank you, firefighters for your selfless service!

    I remember back in the 70's and 80's when they began permitting these faux chimneys using steel or stainless smoke pipe enclosed with wood frame and siding to match the home. I always thought these would be the source of what we see here. I'm sure there are many in existence that haven't caused problems (yet). At least a masonry stack offers some protection from destroying combustible material adjacent to it. Not sure how these got past fire inspectors over the years. Some insurance companies refuse to cover loss from these or any other wood burning device.

      These fake chimneys work ok for a fake gas log fire. A wood fire creates more heat and soot. Since the liners are too rough they collect soot easily. When it ignites, the liner burns through in seconds since it is so thin.

    Really great response by the firefighters. Very thorough in making sure the fire was totally out.
    Similar fire happened in my neighborhood. 1980’s modular fireplace will a double wall flue had a compromised flue. Majority of the house had to replaced. It was suspected that the flue was originally damaged when installed in 1983. Ironically, I had the fireplace and flue in my house professionally cleaned and inspected just ten days prior. The flue and fireplace in my house was given a status report of very good and safe to use.
    Lesson learned - keep the fireplace and flue on a regular schedule for cleaning and inspection.

    Here’s how a normal chimney fire gets fought in Germany. As long as the roof hasn’t caught on, you set the aerial up, sweep the chimney with a chimney broom and collect and cool the ashes that come out of the revision opening at the bottom. Labor intensive, but only for the ff standing in the aerial bucket.

    First video I’ve seen where the first hose was used from the reserve water from the pumper. Being in a rural VFD it’s our first go to line till drop tank can be set up. Some of the lake houses we have to use a pumper to a pumper because no room to turn a tanker around to exit. First tanker usually sacrificed and connected to the attack pumper. The mutual aid tankers provide water to second pumper pumping water to the fire attack pumper.
    Great job on quick attack once on-site.

    Why are people ragging on Tom's River? They did an excellent job here. Got water on the fire quickly once they had a truck on scene, almost immediately knocked down the exterior fire. Then got their supply line and pump, an interior attack going, and eventually got the chimney knocked over to help the interior team in the attic. This was a great example of how to get it right and they saved the house from a rapidly escalating fire. I'd say good job, guys! Show 'em how it's done!

    I commend the decision to place the first application of water in that opening to the attic to let that water expand and knock down the bulk of the fire in that space. Then the FF quickly directed the stream to the chimney chase. The attic space being a large open space with a probable natural vent above is a good situation for a fog application where no occupants are likely to be and no FFs are interior yet. The chimney chase also is a natural vertical vent that can draw the bad stuff back out the top. Brilliant first attack!!

    • @Sea-cucumber1151
      @Sea-cucumber1151 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      They don’t use a deck gun or the canon, because first if anyone or pets are inside the steam would burn them to a crisp, second the canon or deck gun is so strong it can rip the house apart. They needed to go inside and see how far it extended and clear the house. So even if they did put it out with the canon without taking a hand line inside it would have spread in the interior beside like I said tearing the house apart. Usually when you are at that point it’s no longer safe to be inside. They called everyone with the sirens because you don’t want them inside if they could be affected by the gun or to alert them to its use to stay clear. They alerted just to tearing down the fireplace. If they honk 3 times I believe it’s unstable and dangerous get out. My SIL is a firefighter so don’t quote me one it all but those are things I have gathered. Just saying if you watch enough videos you will see the damage done by them.
      And if they just put it out outside and not entered it would have crept within the walls and attic. 😢

      they use double or triple wall pipe,but many times people have chmney fires several times that they either are unaware of or shrug off which warps the pipe.. the chimney sweep i use says its amazing how many prefab fireplace chimneys he finds that have had previous chomney fires and are damaged.. many of these units dont have glass doors so if a resident is home and a chomney fire breaks out they have no way to slow the air to the chimney.. FD did a nice job of getting water on the fire... those chaseways go up fast.. to those criticizing the FD here.. really? they got on scene.. had a line going to the exterior quick.. kept the door closed till the yhad a line ready for an interior attack.. ade it to the second floor and got the fire out before the window blinds in that front fire room even melted.. they opened the house windows rather than smash them...
