love how you used the metal box for squaring up the door. I may be making the 1 hour and 40 min drive to Earth And Tree soon because I need some items for my book nook to roombox conversion. I lucked out on some furniture at my local antique store that does fit but I was so overwhelmed the first time I went to ENT that I think I need to go again.
It's definitely worth the drive! The first time I visited, I was there for 4 hours. It would've been longer, but they were closing 😆 It's 3,000 sq ft and so well stocked with miniatures. It's the best store in the country.
This was great and the tip for wood repair priceless. My big dollhouse came with no door. I bought a few but need to shift the house around to access the front. Maybe during the summer lol. Just shared this on my community page.
Thank you so much for sharing! I suppose receiving the front door in 11 pieces was better than not getting it at all. It's tricky to fit a new door into an existing frame. Good luck 🤞
I truly love how you use different materials to repair or create what you want Shyra! The grey door looks nice! You could always go with red? It would look very nice with the gold hardware, if you wanted to change it😊. Also, Julie uses flooring strips that have the sticky backing, she then goes in with a scribe for the nail holes. You could use a small drill for the holes though. I did a room box one time, where I used a small drill for the holes, then dipped a tooth pick in silver paint for the "nails". It came out really cute!😊
I do like the idea of a deep red/burgundy door. The grey looks fine but it's a bit drab. I loved that flooring technique. Julie has so much great information on her channel. I need to get a scribe.
@@queencityminis ...that would look very nice a deep burgandy with the gold hardware! Yes, I'm actually about to tackle one of her latest projects, a room box. She is awesome, and so are you!😊...and I just ordered a scribe from Amazon, so you can find them there.
Great job on replicating the details!! The door color works, but isn't striking. It looks nice, but many times a dark color gives the entrance a bit more pop (burgundy, red, dark blue etc). Bottom line, if YOU love it, then it is the right color!
I've officially watched all your videos at least once...and quite a few multiple times each, which I intend to keep on. Hooked! I can't wait to see how this house looks when you have it done, though I am sure that will take a while. It is very lucky to have been rescued by you!
Thank you! I'm thinking of repainting the front door from light gray to burgundy/dark red (but not fire engine red). I think that would look great. I received that suggestion in the comments.
I am always amazed at how you fix or restore something or even change something up. I think the door needs to be darker, maybe navy blue or a dark sage green.
Dark sage green would probably be perfect. My next video is for this project. I fixed the shingles and replaced the railing on the top of the roof. It looks so great 😁
Your house is looking so great! Fun to watch you bring it back to it’s original glory and beauty 💜💜💜 I watch Julie Warren too and she’s really great at making miniature furniture. Going to try it myself but don’t think I’ll do as well as Julie. Keep up the wonderful tutorials! I learn a lot from you💜
Thank you so much! I'm so happy with how it's looking. Now all the windows and the front door are intact again. The front of the house looks a lot better. It needs new lighting on each side of the door, though. I also need to fix the shingles. Julie Warren is so precise and patient. I'm an impatient crafter. I hate measuring. I like to just eyeball it, which doesn't always work out.
Wow! You got that house for $100. What a find. I rehabbed a $25 house once, but it sure wasn't the original that that one was. It came out well, but you can only go so far with a less than quality original. But on yours...the floors alone! Fantastic. I appreciate your trying not to do much changing, but not sure I'd be stuck with yellow and pink on the same house exterior. But anyway, beautiful work. I love watching you work on it.
What are you going to ask for it? Then, of course, there's S/H which is always a KILLER with these houses. Where are you moving to? Maybe it's right next door to me. I just built a house that is 5 stories high. 58" H but only 38"L. But my "Big House" is 88" L with the landscaping, greenhouse and gazebo. We are definitely nuts. They may be "miniatures" but they sure take up a lot of space.@@queencityminis
I just found your channel. And am loving it... my 4 year old daughter is autistic and her and I recently picked up a basic old wooden dollhouse we found at value village for 5 bucks. Its bare bones and you can tell someone built it from wood by hand. But its our first one and took it up as a project to start doing together. If its something she enjoys doing (which she seems to be enjoying) then I'm going to invest more money into it as a hobby for us to do together. But for now I'm just browsing to get some ideas and techniques etc. :) ❤ love your channel.
That's great that you found a fun hobby for yourself and your daughter! There are so many miniatures you can make using free and cheap materials. Make sure you check out TinyKeyholeMinis and Little Gretchen's Workshop as well.
Well done! Very interesting to watch. And honestly, almost everything you did could be applied to a full size door to reconstruct and beautify it -- so maybe this isn't just a miniatures channel, but also a home repair channel 😊
BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING INSIDE I HAD AN IDEA THE OTHER DAY. Instead of tediously cutting popsicle sticks to make a wood floor buy wood veneer sheets and cut those. It’s real wood, relatively inexpensive, easier to cut, and literally a sticker
You can also use wood veneer strip that comes on a roll and is either self adhesive with heat or glue-able depending on the kind you buy. It comes in various widths. If you get an inch width and cut it length-wise into 4ths, you get 4 times the amount you paid for. Just further veneer thoughts.
I've never heard of that sculptwood but it sounds like an amazing product. I bet it would be great to add little snakes of it to wooden mass produced dollhouse furniture to make it look like they r hand carved.!
So cool! I’ll miss your room boxes though. Idk why I love the idea of a miniature you can hang on the wall as art. But I’m looking forward to seeing what you do with this lovely house ❤
@@queencityminis Burgundy is a great suggestion. Honestly, I didn’t mind the darker gray either. I think the contrast is what is welcome with the door.
@@dawnklein106 I may have gone too light when I lightened the gray. I think a dark red/burgundy would look great. I guess it's a happy accident I forgot to seal the door. It'll be easier to paint over it.
That's a distinct possibility! I thought someone may have accidentally broken the door while trying to remove the hardware but that doesn't make sense. It was so thoroughly broken. One of the door know plates was bent and the bottom of the frame was broken. I wonder if it was crushed. Must've been a lot of force.
It's looking so good, and you did an amazing restoration. Thank you for sharing your knowledge about the wood sculpt too. That is something I didn't know I needed, until now.. heh I'm going to be working on my actual house this summer, so I think that will really come in handy.
I've done 5 remodels in life (a 6th will begin next month) and I wish I had Sculpwood sooner. Last remodel, we used it to replace missing chunks from window sills and door frames.
Try color matching apps or swatches. Something with the door is off imo. Maybe a dark or light fern green Had to edit my comment & say your art is so inspirational! I have my dollhouse from childhood & can’t wait for the day that I can fix it up ❤️
Thank you! I agree. The light gray door looks fine but it isn't entirely right. I've been crazy busy but soon I'll use an app and try some different colors.
I think the door ended up in that state because the house belonged to a child and one day her cousin came to play and both of their dolls wanted to go in the door at one time and there was a fight over the door which resulted in catastrophe. 😄
😂 I think that's a great guess! I'm very curious why the dollhouse ended up abandoned. The woman who commissioned it in would only be in her early 50s by now. She's probably alive and well.
I was thinking the same thing. I love black shutters with a yellow house. But I'm lazy and don't want to repaint all the shutters 😆 They're still in great shape after all this time.
Hi, Was enthralled watching this video! Very imformative! Please could you say what the name of the square metal tray is that you use to align the repaired door in, I've seen it in videos over recent years but only on U.S. sites, and I live in the UK , I've looked on Ebay UK but as I don,t know what it's called, I don,t know what to look up to purchase one. Many thanks Kind regards Eileen Waterfall 🤗
Thank you! It's a magnetic gluing jig. I honestly don't use it much. I can never get the magnets to hold the miniature tightly enough. I have much better luck with cheap clips and mini clamps. I also use scotch tape to hold things. Gina's Miniatures has a cool jig made of wood that has screws. That looks like it actually works.
Im pretty certain the front door was broken by an over enthusiastic Fed Ex delivery driver lol..."Here's your delivery!" *Package literally comes flying through the door*
I just looked again and I see why it looks upside down. Usually, small panels are at the top of the door and not the bottom. Most of my door have the small panels at the top but we do have two with the small panels at the bottom. I subconsciously oriented the door with the small panels at the top during most of the painting.
A sage green on the door would look lovely with the yellow and pink
That would look nice. Thank you!

Thank you 😁 I had to google it to figure out the correct term for the pediments and I'm still not confident that's actually what they're called 😆
I got to watch a cool dollhouse restoration video AND learn a cool new word today! Pediment. Nice.
