    Man, I cant tell if I really like the pedal or if I just like the playing you are putting through it. I really dig the guitar/piano/synth stuff. Really nice. The pedal sounds gorgeous.

      Well if it’s any constellation I write with the pedal so everything in a demo I do is inspired by the subject. R1 is very easy to get along with.

    EDIT: Fixed bypass switch delay by changing bypass mode in pedal setup menu.
    Great demo! I enjoy how walrus makes more of a musical tool than a spacial approximation. What drives me nuts about this one is the slight cut out in sound any time the left switch is triggered. Even on 1.11. Its very noticeable on the one I'm trying if I have other reverbs or delays going on.

      D1 is an absolute sleeper. So many good sounds hidden away in it, obviously not as many as in other big box delays, but more than anyone could complain about for price and size. R1 also is a really well done piece, I think you maybe need to work a little harder to find exactly what you’re looking for because the interface is smaller but You quickly adapt to the workflow. I’m currently working on the road and filming videos from odd locations, both of these come with me to add to videos as I need and I couldn’t ask for more.

So I watch other videos of this pedal and none of them capture the warmth or magnitude of this pedal like your demo does. Keep in mind I'm playing in mono - The R1 has a ton of tonal character to it, not as much as the Slo for example but far more than something like an Eventide Space or Empress Reverb. That said, I find I prefer listening to the studio verbs (Empress) but I prefer playing with and being creative with the R1/others like it. I find the R1 really sits as a part of my signal where the pristine verbs stay pretty separate. This makes the R1 a lot more fun to play along with, interact with musically and write with, but I prefer listening to the same passages back on the Empress since they allow for so much clarity. Weird issue. Here's how I keep thinking of it - the R1 is like a deep icy cavern filled with shimmery mood where the Empress Reverb (or insert pristine studio verb here) is more like a snowy, icy surface world expanding and shimmering all round - get the idea? Its hard to get the R1 to sound as massive and open as the Empress, but its equally hard to get the empress to sound as warm and close as the R1, even if the decay's and perceived spaces are about the same. That's not to say the R1 cant sound huge, it just doesn't get as...wide.... or something as the Empress (keep in mind mono - mostly Eq differences that do this).

      I love this pedal, it is a little tricky to dial in sometimes but we’ll worth the time.

    • @ReddenDoom
      @ReddenDoom 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had a super hard time with it until I sat down with the pedal up on a table and listened with headphones to ONLY the reverb. I found most of my sounds had way too much mod and that the room sounds take a ton of work to make sound like rooms (helps that I do sound for a living). That said, once I got the hang of it, I found the best workflow was to get a basic reverb dialed in and then modify to taste with EQ and Mod. I also liked setting the mix and decay lower since this pedal works REALLY well with on-the-fly changes and seems to really shine there (super smooth to do). That's my 2 cents. Tried to make 3 ambient presets, 3 mod/shim/glitch ones, and 3 room ones. Works well and can keep up with some much beefier units. Also the R1 has a character to it that really can't be dialed in with other reverbs (ex. the Empress Reverb which is super clean). Oddly, I find the R1 super inspiring to play along with and get creative with, but the Empress Reverb far nicer to listen to - maybe why it always feels like a studio reverb rather than a creative tool.

    man I'm in the market for a good reverb right now, and seriously cannot decide! So many options with the Big Sky, Empress Reverb, Tempus, Dark Worlds, SLO and this guy! I was set on the GFI ST for awhile but I've noticed in a lot of videos you hear the dry sound unaffected under a lot of the verbs, and it's a sharp difference to me. Feels weird hearing the dry guitar sound with a sheen beautiful verb hovering over it, I like being able to hear the entire sound together get effected by the reverb.

    You do such a great job on these videos! I never miss any of them. I'm really interested in how this reverb sounds quality wise compared to the verbs on similar price ranged pedals like the Ventris and Boss RV-500 and even the reverbs in something like the Eventide H9 or the Specular Tempus. I would say genre wise if that makes a difference in your thoughts - ambient, alternative rock and pop for primary genres I am most interested in. I currently have an h9 max as my only unit that can do reverb. I know... blashphemy - only one reverb! :)

      I really like the fact that the stereo field is adjustable, that and the swell on the wet and dry signal, two features that edge this in front of the competition for me ever so slightly.

    Just bought the R1. The first day I played with it, it didn't sound as good as your demo and I must admit I was disappointed with it. Also for some reason the presets in the A and B bank didn't function correctly..just sounded like the swell knob was cranked up fully.
    So I updated the unit to the latest version 1.12 and this added a few more features but it didn't cure the issue. As a last resort I did a factory reset which sorted the problem out!.....phew! I was getting worried I would have to return it.
    Now it works perfectly and once I got it in wide stereo mode I instantly fell in love with the sound. So beautiful and has a unique vibe of it's own. have you encountered any issues whilst using your R1?

    • @ponderersounds3172
      @ponderersounds3172  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Not personally but it’s a digital effect and sometimes computers have little glitches, thankfully the good old factory reset deals with 95% of the problems. R1, in my opinion, is one of the most underrated stereo multi reverbs available today.

    I have a Walrus Audio Slo and Blue Sky for verbs atm and absolutely love my Slo and was curious if this could replace my blue sky. I also have a T-Rex replicator Jr analog tape delay and walrus audio bellwether analog delay which sound amazing. Instead of running both delays in reverbs I go blue sky into bellwether into tape delay into Slo verb with VP Jr volume behind it all (and others in the chain as well) but for ambient this combo works excellent. I then run out of all of that into a mesa v-twin tube preamp pedal to give it that console kinda sound running all this with the 4cm using George L's. I'm gonna make a new channel with me playing so be on the lookout if you see that rig lol. Great playing and great review though. Thanks for sharing! Also great job with the video editing. 👍🏼

    • @ReddenDoom
      @ReddenDoom 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fwiw I found the room verbs on this super hard to dial in. If you use your Sky for ambient textures I would say it could easily replace it, if you use your sky for room sounds you might want to compare or 'build' some rooms by a/b-ing them. I also haven't been able to quite replicated the Slo using the R1 yet - the Slo has a really unique eq thing going on, but the R1 can get into the ballpark. What's also fun is latching the Slo AND latching the R1 and seeing how they interact - the R1 tends to stay clean a long time where the Slo degrades. Also the R1 can be turned off while latched so you can pick if you want it to keep applying reverb to your playing or not (while keeping the latched signal going). The Slo can't latch and provide verb overtop of additional playing so its nice the R1 can do both. I do find the Slo to be a lot faster to dial in for the sounds the Slo does than trying to copy them on the R1.

Tbh, the R1 is great but its soooo/toooo much, I mainly use the R1 when I want to have some over the top stuff but 80% of the time I just use my immerse.
