I never realized how many hammers I would eventually own when I started shaping. I also never planned on making round hammer rack stands on casters but it’s a whole lot better than lugging or pushing around 5 gallon buckets on the shop floor hahaa. You and Ron Fournier (R.I.P.) are two of the greatest legends of Metal in this genre. Much like Chet Atkins, Les Paul, Mary Ford, Jimmi Hendrix, Eric Clapton etc. I’ve had one of your shot bags for years. Love it and the durability/quality is still quite notable. Rock on Ron! Looks like a well rounded set. Pun intended.
Slappers have been around for years .You can take an old metal file ,heat it with oxy- acet and bend it and form your own slapper .You can leave the surface original for shrinking or you can grind and polish it . But his version is very well designed and well worth the money and is a great tool to have in your arsenal .
Yes, of course I did not invent the slapper, and people often make their own. I'm glad you like the one that I have developed - it's the result of many years of experimentation.
I often wonder if I can have too many quality hammers and slappers but still find jobs that demand something that's not in my tool box. My favourite hamer, Snap,on, my favourite slapper Covell.
@@RonCovell I've built hot rod, and classic British cars, I fancy a Ali bodied car next. Homemade chassis and axles, plenty of aluminium, brass and copper. I watch alot of your videos and have been inspired, don't think it'll be as easy as it looks 😉

Ironic or you're peeking into my thoughts as I'm in the market for some body hammers. Haha! Perfect timing Ron, those look fantastic! Even better with the upgraded face.
I don't think textured tools work any better than smooth tools, and I avoid any tool that puts marks in the metal. Therefore, I do not plan to offer 'shrinking' hammers or dollies. The Slap Hammer work very well as a spoon - you just tap very lightly with it!
To be fair, 'balanced' is a very personal concept, and not everyone agrees about what determines the 'best' balance. The Covell hammers do seem perfectly balanced to me, but of course other metalworkers may have their own opinions!
@@RonCovell Haha, sorry. It wasn't a critique of the tools. They look quite lovely! I was referring to another youtuber who commonly uses the phrase "perfectly balanced" sarcastically, to describe games which are not, in fact, perfectly balanced. I would imagine the overlap between the two channels is quite small. But for me at least, I literally laughed out loud when you used that phrase, as it is so strongly associated in my mind with The Spiffing Brit.
I made the connection of who you were when you did The Old Tony video. When is the sequel from him? I've seen some of panels from the Hot Rod Era before jobbers were a big thing, but I wasn't a twinkle in anyone's eye at that time. I was really impressed with the slap hammer! Did you have any plans for the wood buck for repeatability. Web resources or books? Do you make the tools of paintless dent repair? I'd been on gate for Tyco Baltimore, but actually in Jessup by Coleman Brothers Speed Shop & House of Balance. I've been obsessed with cars since I first started to work on them! Injury has sidelined me from most things, but after seeing a TV show I've enjoyed goldsmithing as a hobby jeweler. Do you have any precision tools related to that field? I love Tony's esoteric approach to the oh so over the top staidness of the world of machinists.
Tony should have his video finished by the end of the month, and I'm planning on two more videos to finish the dustpan. If you are asking about the wooden hammerform I used in the video, that's just a demonstration piece I whipped up to have something interesting for the camera to look at. I do have two TH-cam videos on making bucks - I'll append the links below. I don't have any experience with paintless dent repair, but I am amazed with what can be done using those techniques! The only tools I have developed so far are for auto body work, but I have done some work with jewelry, many years ago - it's a great field! I, too, love Tony's 'off the wall' approach to everything he does - it's very educational, and very entertaining! th-cam.com/video/eMk-uJ35T0c/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/Ktj5DWaKXYI/w-d-xo.html www.millerwelds.com/industries/welding-projects?

It's no surprise that a manufacturer would want the "Covell" input and name when designing the right hammer for the job, just like you wouldn't ask an inexperienced mechanic to build your race car engine.
Dang it Ron. I was thinking of buying a handmade bow so as an expro-finisher and once a temp panel beater I saw this...... this,... bowchi... NO Ron, fine mate, just... please...

Mr Covell. I love your channel. It reminds me of watching Norm Abrams' New Yankee Workshop when I was a little boy. But it's metal! Glad I found you!
Very cool!
You solved the ONLY issue I had with that set by adding the High Crown hammer. Excellent Ron, it is now even easier to recommend that set to folks!
See - I pay attention to what you have to say!

Ron, Thanks for the update. Even in Christmas red. Time to pull the trigger on this set 👍

Good stuff Ron! I really need to invest in some more styles of body hammers, I have a good low crown cross peen that I use for literally everything.
That's a great hammer, but it's nice to have some other useful shapes.
Very nice set. I wasn't aware you could have several hammers of the same manufacture.

Yes, you can easily reshape the head of any hammer.
