So I just today spent all morning doing my first photo engrave on my nova 51. It came out alright but I’m glad I was directed to your page by Brian. Learning tons. Right down to my tiles I used to do with my Glowforge would sometimes pull up and crackle my paint when I sprayed it with clearcoat. Not always just sometime. I’ll have to try the acrylic. Thank you for taking the time to make these informative tutorials.
excellent video. new to this and that was easy to understand . started a picture while watching and can already tell the difference . I also just subscribed. thanks
So glad I found your channel. I've been experimenting with tiles for a while now and having zero luck but the way you go in depth about your photo editing software was something I haven't found in other videos. Thanks so much for making such a great video, can't wait to watch your other videos to see what else I've been doing wrong. lol
Just have to say I was your 1,000th like on this video😂 I couldn't handle it saying "999"... Seriously though, truly liked the video! Those look awesome!
Thank you. Been playing with my laser for a few months now and keep bumping into my knowledge hole with respect to image processing. About to embark on phase 2 use of my machine - router and contour carving - and I'm not going to be able to fake that. Excellent video, well produced with calm and thorough focus. Well done. Liked and subscribed. I'm sure I will binge your other offerings. =) lol.. Think I'll give the tile thing a shot as well, bonus. =)
Thanks for the easy to follow video. I followed the video but ran into a issue, when I saved the tile at 4x4 it open in lightburn 4100 inches. any idea on what i may of done wrong.
Can you also use airbrush acrylic paints and then clear coat after burning? Tons of great info in here and I'm glad I found this, you're video is super comprehensive and easy to follow!
I'm still waiting on my laser engraver to add to my artillery of 3D printers, CNC, and vinyl cutters. However, I did go out and buy a 100pc box of gloss white 4x4 ceramic tiles from Home Depot for just $8.00. They are ridiculously cheap!
Very great video and information as getting color on my tiles has been a challenge for me I either get color with hardly and image or I get an image with no color. However im still a little confused. When you first brought your image into lightburn you have negative image and pass through on. When you get into the different engraving methods I noticed that negative image is turned off. So do you engrave with negative image on or off? I’ll keep trying but that is a question that’s been in my mind. I use lightburn but also use Gimp as my photo editor Thanks
If what you are saying Lightburn resamples the image then it would output at whatever you set the dpi to in the halftone setting. Yes increasing the dpi in the photoshop file will give you a better resolution to create the dot shape in bitmaps but it’s resampled in Lightburn. Effectively you will never get anything above the dpi set in Lightburn halftone, although I inadvertently set the dpi to 1000 and tried to run the job and it took 4x longer. In commercial printing the rule of thumb was 2x resolution to that of halftone screen but the raster image processors that created the final plates were capable of 2540 mm plus. If you had a way to figure out the file size of the final output image you could prove this but I don’t know anyway to do that.
Great job love it... I want to ask you a question Have you done this work on a co2 laser machine ? or has any one here had experience with a co2 machine
My co2 laser will not work with LightBurn. I can only use my 20w diode laser with LightBurn. Question is can I use the gimp plugin big gimpin or the imag-r sight to prep the image to burn on my laser without using LightBurn. Thanks for this great video lot learned here.
Hi, In the video you import a 'halftone' image into LightBurn. The half tone image was processed in Photoshop. I only have LightBurn. How do I get the original picture to convert into 'halftone'?
In one part of your video you say that Lightburn resamples the image. In another part during settings you say to set the dpi to 1000, the same as the photoshop file. What is it. Doesn’t make sense to me.
You can use whatever you’d like. Halftone and Jarvis can achieve similar results but Jarvis is faster due to being able to run less dpi. Sketch is not for making a photo realistic image
I really want to do something like that. I have a DIY CNC Laser Engraver kit from China. I changed the controller with EleksMaker v.5.2 and the 20W EleksMaker diode (?). So far I have used Benbox software. I tried Lightburn but I don't know how to set it so I can make these tiles. They can be made with this kit from China or only with a CO2 laser. I can't make the gray scale. Only black and white. Thank you.
@@TheDwilliams1000 I dont know what those are either but I do know there are little orange painters triangles that are available at hardware stores. They are super inexpensive.
@@ToddMoore1 yes, I just happen to have some little painters triangles laying around that I use for my woodwork. Worked better than the cat which also tends to lay around. :)
Correct, those that don’t have LightBurn need to process the photo first. IMO there’s no need to process externally if you have LightBurn, it does an amazing job on its own
@@HouseOfLasers So if i did process externally, can i just switch off the pass through and THEN put it in half tone...because i really liked how it tricks the eye. Or do i have to do just one or the other?
@@LakersNinersFan if you process externally than LightBurn will have to be in pass through. You can not process it twice without loosing a lot of detail
@@HouseOfLasers OMG! I just did an image like you did in light burn and it turned out into the BEST image ive done. You made all those scripts obsolete just by using nothing more than Lightburn. Thank you!
I'm glad I found this video. However, may I ask, I'm using lasergrbl. When I open the file, it enlarges by about 10 times even though I've set the image size in Photoshop and resolution. Any idea?

nooooooooooo lol good video
You are so incredibly meticulous, articulate, and intelligent. Amazing!
Awesome work on the iron man. Wish they put more like buttons on youtube🤣Lol. 👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you for this awesome video! I do have one question. if i process my image as you showed in photoshop, do i still bring it into lightburn?
Very comprehensive video. Thanks!
I spent $ on the big gimpin plug in for photoshop. Wish I had viewed this first. A fool and their money are soon parted.

Brother... Is it safe to engrave on those painted tiles?? Are they emanating any toxic gases?
Pls enlighten
Great job love it... I want to ask you a question Have you done this work on a co2 laser machine ? or has any one here had experience with a co2 machine
this painted method will work on any material, wood, ceramic, metals, plastics and glass, basically if you can paint it you can laser it

You can use LightBurn to process and save the laser ready photo
Great video, Thanks. Where is a good place to purchase a laser like you have ?
Thunder Laser USA They will hook you up
SUBBED!!! Amazing work
do you clean the tile after etching

Do you have a video of this
I just came from Lowe's. Got some 4x4 tile for 14 cents each.
Have you tried this process yet? I am excited to try it, but need to buy some tiles first.
In Windows, I was making the mistake of saving as .png instead of exporting as. Big difference!
As what?
What do you use to wipe the tile after?
Can you wipe the glass or tile when the engraving process is complete?
If you clear coat it yes
What kind of lens did you say you use to get a fine point? Where might I get one? (I have a red-and-black 80W Chinese laser.)
Beam Buddy HIgh Resolution lens
Are the tiles that are being used glazed or unglazed?
Glazed
How long did the individual burns take ?
30-50min depending on process and dpi
@@HouseOfLasers im using a diode laser, and not exceeding 300 dpi but theyre taking considerably longer than that.
What are you using to prop up the tiles
To paint ? 30oz powder coating plugs.

Use LaserGRBL it’s free and does a good job. 😊
Whats dpi?
dots per inch
Never showed the final burn…
The Swamp has gathered now we see who they are.

i realize it has to be 'save as' instead of 'exporting' it as png.
someone needs a new monitor LOL
Just replaced it today. Lol
Back ground noise is distracting
I find the florescent green didn't turn out too well
Talk to much , not showing the laser working and settings used for the laser. Any body could burn the tiles not necessary you.
