T-FLIGHT HOTAS 4 - How to stop the dreaded YAW DRIFT ( jitter ) on your new flight stick

  • The video shows how to 'prevent' a working joystick from going faulty.
    If yours is drifting, you need to replace the potentiometer, and also apply the fix from this video!
    I bought my replacement potentiometers from mouser electronics (link below) - the shipping was quite expensive so i bought a pack of 20 to make it worthwhile.
    These work for the yaw, pitch, roll, and strafe axes. Works for the throttle too but the range is slightly incorrect so you will be at +100% throttle when the lever is at the ~75% position.

    Thanks for this! I put about 600 hours into my HOTAS 4 with ED, and then it went into storage for about 2 years due to life changes. I recently got it back out once Star Wars Squadrons went free on Epic, and the yaw was just starting to act up. Hopefully I caught it in time with this fix, and after doing it, it seems to have stopped the yaw from spazzing out. Guess time will tell if I'll need to put a new pot in it, but so far so good after an hour or so in Squadrons.

    Mine may be a newer model....? It had an extra piece inside that looks like the manufacturer attempted a fix.
    Mine started to get jitter after more than 800 hours of use (bought it used, so no idea of the real total.) When I took it apart to add the tape, a semicircular piece of plastic with two arms fell out. Finally figured out it belongs wedged between the two halves of the handle near the base, and the semicircle bit curls around the post that we put the tape on.
    Added the tape as well (used plumber's tape, skipped the grease) and the jitter is gone. hopefully it keeps trucking along for a long time to come.

    Thanks for the video. I fixed mine by dipping the potentiometer in white spirit and giving it a good twist, i could feel it becoming smoother as i did that. Works fine now 👍This video inspired me to fix it and the comments below also helped.

    Thank you so much for the tip. My Z Yaw axis has been jittering for months and I had to create a huge deadzone. My method was similar to yours but I took the joystick apart, lifted the potentiometer out, cleaned it with a little IPA (Iso Propyl Alcohol) and then twisted it from min to max a few times. So far, so good!

    Try using vulc tape, electrical tape or some type of reinforced tape.
    Another tip, is perhaps using J.B.Weld on the white plastic part and use a dremel to get the right proportions.

Joystick seems to work fine but I feel like this piece affects the movement somehow. It’s a black piece of plastic with one straight bitAttached to a plastic half circle. I believe it fits somewhere in the left half of the hand grip near the spring somehow. Do you have this piece/do you know what it is.? Thanks again!

    • @Cirrusrunecian
      @Cirrusrunecian ปีที่แล้ว

      @@everythingaroundyou Might be too late, but what you're referring to is the twist lock mechanism. If you look at the bottom right of the stick, nearby to the bottom-most 2 screws, you'll note a third open hole just above them. It slots in there (from the inside of course) with the C shaped part set against the white stick. You can see a thin slit cut into it where you would turn it externally (likely with a flathead screwdriver) to activate the locking mechanism.

    Is there anyway to either mechanically disable the Yaw function on the stick or maybe in some software setting? I really don't need it because I have pedals, but I'm def having stuttering Yaw issues probably related to this that are just making my pitch and roll functions unbearable.

    • @Tayls-tn2ux

      I would guess that you could change the setting in the game - so maybe reduce the sensitivity to 0 or something. It is probably better than mechanically disabling the potentiometer!

    How long should I expect it to work properly till it starts acting up?

    • @Tayls-tn2ux
      @Tayls-tn2ux  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, it seems to be fairly common yes - im a member of a lot of facebook ED groups and this gets mentioned quite regularly.
      I believe it is because of the loose fitting handle onto the shaft.
      This causes the sensor to wear out much faster than it should.
      If you get a new one i definitely recommend this fix so it lasts a long time !
