Just listen carefully to the last answer at 45:00 min. I had very pleasant personal life,I had my daughter,my wife, my grand children and "MY GURKHAS". That's the greatness of this man and probably every commanding officer of Indian Army. Salute to you sir for always considering your fellow military personnel as your family. Respect and love to you sir.
One of the proudest moments of my life is when as a Flight Attendant with Jet I flew Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw to Coimbatore. Such a genteel person with laughing eyes & a commanding persona. At the end of the flight he thanked me, I have never been more humbled. It was an honour sir to have served you. Much Respect & Homage to this great Soul.
I too sighted him on a domestic flight and it was indeed an honor to be in close proximity of my military hero. I introduced himself as a retired Army officer and also told him how much he had inspired me as a youngster. His humble and courteous demeanour further increased my respect and fondness for him
Defence Minister desired that there should be Reservations for SC/ST ,BC and OBC for direct Recruitment as the Commissioned offrs in the Armed Forces Field Marshal Manekshaw did not agree to the suggestion. Services Selection Boards ensure that the candidates should be physically fit ,Mentally alert and work with Dicipline, Devotion and Dedication to safeguard the territorial integrity of our Motherland .
I am from Sri Lanka and I feel that India has a true son and a officer and gentlemen who served as their military head another great man I knew very very well Air Vice Marshall Rohan Amarasekera who headed the Royal Ceylon Airforce in the mid 60s and they both were ww2 veterans . I hold you both in high esteem.
Only 2 in the army. There is a Marshal equivalent of the Air Force and Admiral in the Navy. Apart from FM Manekshaw and FM Cariappa there is Marshal Arjan Singh in the Navy who has received a 5 star rank
General Sam Maneckshaw was the 1st General to be conferred with Field Marshal. General Kariappa was later on posthumously conferred by Rajiv Gandhi government as a mark of respect for being the 1st General after independence.
My Father An Ex IAF, loves Manekshaw The Great to the core. I see in my old man's eyes that immense respect he holds for the late Mr. Manekshaw. My Father always says that "Beta ab doosra manekshaw nahi banane vaala khuda, vo ek sahi sipahi tha es mulk ka".
The Pakistani soldiers put their pagdi on his feet, in Lahore, after the war, and thanked him, and said they will never again believe that Hindus are bad.. I mean is this the definition of the ultimate man or what.. how good can a man be.. this is beyond my imaginative expectations.. so much heartfelt respect and love for this true human being.. Thank you Sir forever and ever
A bloody mule kicked me, what an Australian surgeon must have thought of this brave indian soldier. A true Hero. A true Parsee, keeping his sense of humor intact even at a most critical state. Hats off and salute to FM Gen Sam Manekshaw sir.
I am a civilian and had just passed out of IITK when i learnt Sam was visiting Kanpur and would be staying at Swadeshi House .So I visited him and had the privelge of having him autograph a collection of photos I had compiled into a book on the 1971 war .It was a great moment and honour to meet face to face with the arch itect of our victory .
Whenever I feel cowed down by something in life, i come back to this interview just to remind myself of how graciously one can overcome and even conquer insurmountable odds, just by believing in and staying true to oneself.
This is Conoor where ' The clouds float BENEATH you". I spent a few memorable days in my uncle's cousin's house on top of a hill and watched endlessly as the clouds hit our hill....
My War Hero, Field Marshal Sam Bahadur Manekshaw, you will eternally live in the hearts of every Indian. One of the topmost respected, loved people in Indian history. I'm proud to have known him. FM Sam, you have earned a place in the line of Ash oka the great, Mahatma Gandhi etc. India is fortunate to have you.
Thank you for sharing this great man,s perspective with us. As a 11 yr old child I used to run for the morning Malayala Manorma News Paper delivery to read about the success and victories we had each day. He is a true leader!!! His diciplines and principles is what is required for us as Indians to be competive with the rest of the "Developed World".
At the age of 23, I finally found an idol figure, who's qualities I would like to emulate. Being very much intrigued by the persona of the man from this video, I enquired further in his life and what I found both humbled and made my chest swell up with pride. I shall share with you all an incident from his life which maybe not many may know, pardon me for my hazy memory During some war, Pakistani army's FFR(a regiment Sam commanded pre-independence) regiment had captured a territory of Indian and wouldn't budge from that location even after repeated efforts from the Indian army. Every night they would announce through loud speakers "hum Sam Saab ki regiment se hai, hum poche nai hatenge" What better can a compliment be?! I'd just end this by saying, his life was so grand that everyone can take a piece from it and learn.
Compliments to Jessica Gupta & her team, for having done a good job in bringing out the true essence of Sam Manekshaw in this short documentary. His humor, uprightness & goodness shines through! True model of a leader. Our salute!
