  • 'Yes man' that have surrounded Nehruvian and Indira Gandhi style of governance who lead in the list of inefficient and anti-people governance, have been the biggest threat to nation. The lack of leadership that has blighted India not just on political scene but in all the spheres of life where 'greatness is imposed or inherited' is the reason why we continued to have begging bowl in front of developed nations and the world bank until 2014. This CD was gifted to me by my childhood friend Dhirendra Chaturvedi, an officer in Madhya Pradesh government, the comments are mine, I take to blame and credit if any.

He stated in the video that a key attribute of a leader is professional knowledge of the task he is assigned, your father was a hard working man and served alongside this great man. You sir on the other hand are doing the opposite IF you are seeking "Yes-men" to praise you for being indirectly associated with Mr. Manekshaw.

The country’s highest civilian award, Bharat Ratna was instituted in 1954 for exceptional service of the highest order in any field of human endeavour and national public service. In the list of 48 awardees are economists, artists, industrialists, politicians, sportsmen and members of socio-cultural organisation, but no one from the military. In the US, the highest civilian awards are the Congressional Medal and President’s Freedom Medal that have been awarded to civilians for exceptional achievements and have included several decorated Generals like Colin Powell, Peter Pace and Douglas MacArthur, along with icons like Mother Teresa.

1st one and the most imperative attribute for the leader is "professional knowledge"

  • @Ajaypal-hq3gb
    @Ajaypal-hq3gb 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1897

    Summarized transcript:
According to manekshaw sir qualities of leader :
    1) *professional competence* :
He provided example of Defence Minister who had no idea about howitzer, motor etc how can he lead the army officers !!
    2) *ability to take a decision and take a full responsibility for it* :
👉🏻 act of omission is much worse than act of commission of wrong.
👉🏻 why a person don't take decision?? because he lacks confidence!! why? because he lacks professional knowledge !
👉🏻 if you must be a bloody fool be must quickly - manekshawism
    3) *absolute justice and impartiality*
By this way you may not be liked by all but be respected.
    4) *courage*
👉🏻 moral courage: ability to distinguish right from wrong and standby it irrespective of what others think.
👉🏻 yes man, is horrible man, he may rise very high, but will never become leader, he will be used by superior and disliked by colleagues.
👉🏻(he mentioned story, when he was summoned, during east Pakistan crisis, by Indira Gandhi and other cabinet minister who expected him to be agree to intervene in april month, which was not prudent and he boldly put forward his dissent about choice of time rather than being yesman )
    👉🏻 physical courage:
No one is immune to fear but one should be capable of desisting it's display.
    ( he mentioned a story)
    5) *loyalty*
Its two way thing, one can rightfully demand it from subordinate if he is also loyal to them.
    6) *management of men and sources*
He mostly conveyed about role of emotional intelligence, that human have problems so being stern should be combined with human touch and sense of humour play a great role in it.
    7) *discipline*
    Following code of conduct
I tried to follow objectivity and desisted myself from adding or colouring it with my personal opinion🙏🏻

Shortage of Leadership ( Leadership in Work of Life)
    • If leaders are not born, Can Leader be made.
    • Give me a man with reasonable common sense and decency, You can make a leader out of it.
    Attributes of Leadership
    1. Professional Knowledge and Professional Competence.
    2. The Ability to make up your mind, and make a decision. And having taken that Decision, Accepting full responsibility for it.
    3. Absolute Justice and Impartiality.
    4. Moral and Physical courage.
    5. Loyalty.
    6. Leadership is nothing else, but the management of Men and Resources.
    7. Discipline and Character.
    1. Professional Knowledge and Professional Competence.
    • Can Not Be born With Professional Knowledge.
    • Professional Knowledge has to be acquired the Hard way, It’s a constant study.
    2. The Ability to make up your mind, and make a decision. And having taken that Decision, Accepting full responsibility for it.
    • An Act of omission is much worse than an act of commission.
    • An act of Commission can be put right, even if the decision is wrong.
    • An act of omission Cannot be put right.
    • Why does a person cannot take a discussion, Because he lacks Confidence.
    • Why does he lacks Confidence, Because he lacks Professional Knowledge and Professional Competence.
    3.Absolute Justice and Impartiality.
    • No Men like being punished.
    • Yet Men will accept, punishment. If they know that everybody who commits that sought of crime, gets the same sought of punishment.
    • They May not like it, They may not like you. But they will respect you.
    • No Man Likes to be superseded.
    • And yet people will accept supersession if they know that been done fairly and there been superseded By somebody who is better than them.
    4. Moral and Physical courage
    • What is Moral Courage.
    • Moral Courage is the ability to distinguish right from wrong. And having distinguished that, you must have the courage to stand up and say your piece. Irrespective of what others think.
    • A “Yes” Man is a horrible Man. He will never become a leader. He will be used by his superior’s, disliked by colleagues, and his subordinates will have no respect for them.
    • Moral Courage is essential.
    • What is Physical Courage.
    • Fear is natural phenomenal, like Hunger. Anyone who says, he is not frightened, is a liar. Except for perhaps the Gurkha. Everyone is frightened.
    • it is One thing to be Frightened, and quite another to show fear.
    • It when your knees are knocking and teeth are chattering, and you are above to make your own geography. That’s when the real leader comes out.
    • If once you show fear in front you are commanding or subordinate team members, once you show fear, you should quit.
    • Physical Courage is essential.
    5.Loyalty
    • Does loyalty requires very much explanation, We all except loyalty from our subordinates.
    • Do we give loyalty to them.
    • Loyalty is a two-way thing, we expect loyalty, we have to give loyalty to them.
    • Do we give loyalty to colleagues.
    • So remember, for leadership. we expect loyalty, we have to give loyalty to them.
    6. Leadership is nothing else, but the management of Men and Resources.
    • Management of Men.
    • Men have problems, Men in numbers can be very nasty. And a leader must be able to deal with them, very firmly.
    • But you should never forget, That Men have problems, they have a human problem, they have problems of death, of family problems, they can easily despondent.
    • And therefore the leader must have a human touch. He must have a sense of humor.to get them out of despondency.
    • Further Men and Women, generally speaking, like there leader to be a bit of Man, a bit Lad.
    7.Discipline and Character
    • What is Discipline.
    • Discipline is a code of conduct, for decent living in society one with the other.
    • Non-Punctuality is an act of ill Discipline, which is injuries to the state, injuries to its people.
    • By Character, Means Knowing yourself, knowing what you really are.

So are you taking that attributes of what you heard from him into your service? Or are you also a lamb of the forces who’s just to serve Mahatma Gandhi? Doesn’t matter if you are from NDA, or any other academy, doesn’t matter if you are in Ranks or Files, what matters like he said is the balls and courage to face the Glory of Death in pure conscious mind without the offset of Old monk. I have seen officers, I have seen men who are scared as chicken in heart? Like I said Doesn’t matter , all that matter is the balls you need to have.

Your wish would have come true about a century ago had it not been for a strange twist of destiny.
In 1900, a young doctor from Bombay named Hormusji Manekshaw and his wife set out on a train journey to Lahore, where he intended to start his medical clinic. Towards the end of the excruciating 4 day journey, the newlywed couple made an impromptu decision to get off the train one stop before Lahore, at Amritsar. As luck would have it, his medical practice flourished in Amritsar and they decided to stay there for good.
14 years later the couple had their third son, a boy named Sam, who went on to change the course of history in the Indian subcontinent.

Do you know or can tell me why did Field Marshall Sir Sam said that "Everyone who says they are not frightened are liars except the Gurkhas".. I am a Gurkha though born in India.. But people (not all) here treats us differently.. They think we are nothing but Security Guards or people selling Momos.. We are the victim of Racism too as much as the black people.. I don't know what Gurkha's had did in the past because I am very weak in history.. Just because Sir quoted I was curious to know..

Time has come now where people like me and millions of other in India must take action against Racism.. The problem was we ignored and kept quiet when people did this for the first time.. Had we took action against them when they started this, things would have been much different now.. 🙂

P.M. Modi has surrounded himself with some of the most intelligent people like foreign and the transport minister but some are only YES men only, who are no use to him or this country. he himself has very less professional knowledge but he is a fierce leader who is crushing the opposition and not doing what is needed to do for the betterment for the country economically and transparency in administration.

A 'reputed' management institute and yet cannot make the arrangement of a proper microphone for one of India's most courageous and fearless men. Shameful! And the way the so called 'dignitaries' of this country gave the funeral of this brave-heart a miss is just outrageously pathetic and immensely disrespectful. The only consolation that comes to mind is that a man of such legendary bravado and formidable reputation did not deserve to have a bunch of third-class, good-for-nothing spineless cowards around him during his final moments on the planet. Aukaat nahi hai un logon ki ki aisi hasti ke aas paas bhi fatke. This man did what none of those sissies can ever dream of doing- he lived life on his own terms and conditions. Rest in peace, Sir. They don't make men like you anymore.

Nitya I doubt FM Maneckshaw looked at it that way. Instead he was happy to be there, besides this being 70’s or 80’s.
And as for the man he hardly needs a microphone to be heard.
