    You’ve totally done justice with what the nikon Z50 is capable of. Many youtubers out there dive into the technicalities and the shortcomings of this camera without actually using it on its full potential. Great work man 🙌🏻

    This is one of the best Z50 review 👍🏻 . Currently I'm using D750 as my main workhorse. Previously I owned D700 as my main camera and later it became my backup after I purchased the D750. I'm shooting mostly corporate portfolio, event coverage and travel. Now, I'm thinking should I get the Z50 as my backup and main camera for travel ? At first I have doubt with the kit lens, but after testing it recently I'm totally amazed by its quality and the color totally awesome

    Interesting overview Andrew. As a Canon shooter, I bought the M50 as a travel camera and to slip in in the pocket to avoid taking out the 5d iv all the time, so you it was good to hear your thoughts on a similar camera. Images were impressive. Would agree, looks a good purchase for multi uses 👍

    If i had the money I would buy the Z50 as a step up from my 7100 as I don't need a ff camera. I tried it out at a local camer shop and it just felt so good in my hand and the buttons were where they should be.

    The Z50 seems to have a lot of (latitude) meaning it has very good high light and shadow detail while blogging, better than any camera I've seen used so far. But at the same time it portrays skin tones unusually to me; perhaps lighten then I'm used to. The sharpness of the camera is unmatched, perhaps even "too sharp", and I wonder how "they" do that; maybe in the operational software, the (Exceed 6)? system. If that's the case I wonder if the program can be replaced with like the (D850's). Thanks Andrew for keeping us up-to-date, and great picture taking.

    • @Andrew_marr
      @Andrew_marr  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Robert for watching and sharing your thoughts. Yeah, I was impressed with the dynamic range. I was capturing the footage with a relatively flat profile so to get the maximum range as I knew I was going to be recording in some harsh Perth sunlight. Note, the skin tones could be due to my colour grading. There are settings to adjust the sharpening, but I left them at the default. Keep in mind the TH-cam compression that might be occurring :) Cheers mate!

    A very informative and professionally presented video. I shoot with the Z6, mainly hybrid nature shooting, and I’m looking for a lightweight backup camera that my partner can also use. I also like the idea of having a lighter weight option to my Z6 to keep in my pocket. Having seen your video I think the Z50 ticks all my boxes. I consider the Z system to be outstanding and it will only get better as more lenses are released together with new camera bodies

    • @Andrew_marr
      @Andrew_marr  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Tim for leaving a comment and sharing your thoughts. I think the Z50 would serve as a great second/backup camera due to it's size and quality construction and obvious the quality of the image you can get out of the camera. I also think the Z system is outstanding and its potential has not yet been realised by the wider community.

    My last upgrade was from my D90 to D500 years ago. I'm no longer upgrading to newer models. My niece whom I loaned my old but still good D90 to introduce her to DSLR photography made me see the light. She said as she fidgeted on the controls why should anyone make bulky things that only take photos. This got me thinking. She owns an apple iphone and I guess she prefers taking photos with it. I recently got the latest model and it takes superb photos. And sometimes I can't tell what took which in my PC if not for the exifs. Mobile phone imaging has improved quite a lot more than DSLRs that only brag larger pixels and larger files but image quality is not that far off.

    • @Andrew_marr
      @Andrew_marr  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      To each their own. I use my mobile camera all the time, but personally if the quality of the image mattered to me, I shoot it with a DSLR or mirrorless any day.

    I am using Nikon D7200 with Nikkor 200-500mm lens. I shoot mainly wildlife. Recently I am doing a bit of vlogging also. I also have 5 other DX lenses. I am considering to buy Z50. I am mainly concerned with the autofocus. Is it as good as 7200 for still shooting. Your video is nice but it would be better if you could tell us about tracking a bird or something for still shooting. Do you recommend Z50 for my case?

    My E-30 has a side-flip display, and it tilts both up and down. I have no problem with waist-levle shooting, nor holding over my head, and the tripod never gets in the way. It's not heavy, nor does it unbalance the camera (the E-30 is a monster, though, so maybe that helps). Another benefit of this is that I can flip the screen around, and place it against the body to protect it when not in use. I wish every manufacturer would offer this option. :-) That's my perspective. Other than that, this camera is a temptation away from 4:3 and m4:3 for me.

      @Coo Koo Z50 :)

    • @ThePhotographyHobbyist
      @ThePhotographyHobbyist 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Coo Koo Oh. OK. My choice would be the Z5 simply because it has all of the features or at least most of the features the higher end models have and it will give you better image quality overall.

    • @ThePhotographyHobbyist
      @ThePhotographyHobbyist 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Coo Koo If you do want to eventually get into professional photography, I would certainly recommend a real camera instead of a camera phone. Image quality has improved greatly with modern smart phones but they still cannot compete with the image quality of a camera with a much larger sensor like in the Z 50 or Z 5. There are a variety of reasons why learning to use a regular camera would be beneficial if you eventually want to get into professional photography. You will eventually need a high-quality camera anyway. If you have the money and you like the Z5, I would buy the Z5 kit with the 24 to 200 mm lens and maybe also the 50 mm F1.8 lines. That would give you a great start and a very flexible system, but admittedly the zoom lens will not be as good in the dark because of the variable aperture when you zoom compared to a fixed aperture zoom lens or a fixed temperature single focal length winds like a 50 mm or 35 mm. Optical quality will also be better on the prime lens is like the 35, 85 and 50 mm lenses. Also if you want to get into a professional photography it would be highly recommended to learn how to use flash like off-camera flash or even a flash unit mounted to the camera. That’s another advantage of using a real camera instead of using a smart phone.

    • @ThePhotographyHobbyist
      @ThePhotographyHobbyist 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Coo Koo Honestly, given your experience level and what your goals are, it might be a better choice to buy the Z 50 with both lenses and that turns out to still be cheaper than the Fuji or the full frame Nikon.
      The 50 mm is a great general purpose lens but I find it to be a little too tight if you want to shoot indoors or get wide views of landscapes. For a general purpose lens I would probably recommend a 35 mm instead of 50. I have the 35 mm F1.8 lens from Nikon and you can focus very closely with it and also get wider views but it’s still not as good as a 24 mm focal length for certain indoor shots or where the space is limited and you need a wider view. So in that case maybe again the Z 50 with the two lens kit makes sense. This is Z 50 gallery if you haven’t seen it yet.

    It is the same sensor that is in the D500. I wonder if it has the same crop on top of crop factor in 4K? The D500 also has a tendency to clip highlights too.

      @СергейМогутов-ъ4д 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The new processor allowed 4K with full sensor readout without crop up to 30FPS. It downsamples 6K to 4K.

      @Andrew_marr  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dennis, thanks for sharing your thoughts. One of the impressive things about the Z 50 is the 4k video is with no cropping and dynamic range is great. Which could be down to the new processor.

      Hey Steve, great to hear from you mate. I haven't tried any of my FX lenses at I don't currently have a FTZ adapter. Considering the Z50 as my new camera for landscape photography with a lot of hiking (I 98% of the time shoot at higher F-stops) because of its compact size. My other option would be a bigger more expensive Z6 or Fuji X-H1.

      @Coo Koo I first bought a X-H1, wasn't 100 % happy and now bought a Z6 when I saw it for a great price :)
      I would prefer the Z6 over the Z5 because it has much better video capabilities.

    • @patrick.771
      @patrick.771 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Coo Koo Then it probably is better to buy an APS-C camera. Full frame lenses are very expensive.
      Take a look at Z50 and Fuji X-S10 for example

    • @patrick.771
      @patrick.771 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Coo Koo the best is Z5 but when you buy more full frame lenses for that camera it will cost a lot.
      2nd best is x-s10
      Z50 is also great but there aren't many lenses available at the moment.
      It will probably help a lot if you try them in a camera store ;)

    Thank you Andrew.. I am deciding between the Z50 and Fuji XT30..I already own a D7100 , so I am quite familiar with the menu system, which is a plus..the Fuji kit lens, which I've researched, is considered by many to be the best kit lens from any maker, so I am hesitating with the Z 16-50,, but from what I've seen from you and others images, it can do the job, so now leaning back towards familiar Nikon territory..thoughts ?...and thanks again !

If you decide on the Z50, it feels just like the 7100, and the menu system is almost identical so no new learning curve..good luck !

      What lenses do you have (DX, FX)? What kind of photos do you normally shoot?
      If you have some DX lenses with VR the DX50 should be the logical upgrade.
      If you have some lenses and FX lenses, the Z6 could bring some advantages.
      In general fullframe should be a bit better in low light but the samples i have seen fom the Z50 look great.
      At the moment the third party supply for X-mount DX (lenses, batteries, grips) is poor. I'm in very similar situation to you and i will wait for a few months and see if Sigma, Tamron and Co. start to supply DX lenses for X-mount..

    Thannk you for a great detail review of Z 50. I am willing to buy a camera for wildlife photography, specially for birding. Will Z50 be a good choice over D 7500 in this scenario? How the Nikkor 70-200 mm and 200-500 mm lenses will perform with FTZ adaptor in Z50? Is the focusing power of Z50 quite enough good for "bird or wild animal" tracking?
