- Everyone in Michigan knows Wazoo Records. It has been around since the 70s and is still going strong right next to the University of MI.
I also look at a couple of box sets i recently picked up for those that like a little 50s rock and afrobeat.
Please check out my podcast with Jim Gleason- Two Guys Talking About Records- it can be found on spotify, Apple, Iheart, FB and YT @RadioWastelandRecords

Never been into box sets but after watching this, I think I might have to reconsider! What a great record shop. Love it. Thanks so much for sharing this latest adventure with us.
They are not quite as exciting as the record shops in Paris. I use to have 100s of box sets, now I try to really limit it.
Gidday Steve. Great review. Wazoo Records looks like a fantastic record store. Thanks.
Hi Ken, I use to go here a lot in my travels but it had been a long time. It is one of the oldest stores in MI so kind of an institution for record collecting.
Hello Steve; A store with steps & records up the Wazoo. Like the Jazzy Dusty Groove T-shirt. A Fela Kuti box set with the attachments, Afro funk & soul with horns. The Bo Diddley box with his box guitar looks good. Take care, Tina & Pat!~
As others have said you have to go up to get to the wazoo! I have three more record store tours from MI. I have yet to go to a store in Denver, someday I will get the ti e to do it.
I've been to Wazoo Records. It was a great school and I found a Paul McCartney grail! ❤️ The parking can be difficult but we did find a parking lot. I did some damage in Ann Arbor, the record stores are good. I love your shirt. ❤️ Nice box sets. Take care.
I had not been there in over 8 years. I use to find some great bootleg CDs there. It was fun to first. Ann Arbor is a great city, expensive but what a great food scene !
Really nice looking store. Well organized. Nice looking Bo Diddley box set. I’m not sure I would need a box set of Bo. Important figure in rock history. Glad you made it up the steps Steve😁👍
You have a point on Bo. I use to have a few of his albums but wow did they get expensive. I have the songs I really wanted but have no need for alternative takes.
Ouch... Those stairs at the start of your video gives ne bad memories. I was in a bar drunk one time and a guy pushed me down the stairs. When I tumbled to the bottom I looked back up to the dude at the top of the stairs and said "So you wanna play do you" and started back up the stairs. Just then the coppers came through the door and put the grab on me. LOL...
Lmao Bobby, damn coppers saved that other guy from a whupping. No bat should ever be up a set of stairs. Probably a lot of people fell down those steps
I agree I had to slow down on the Fela acquisitions as well. Seemingly
Impossible task.
Fela is worse than King Gizzard and Guided by Voices Dave
Hi Unk. Thanks for the tour of Wazoo... nice looking place. Crazy Fela story! Fantastic Bo Diddley box set. Looks amazing. I missed that one too. Oh well. Thanks a nd have a good one. Cheers!
Nephew, I think I got all the Bo I needed. I really did t need all the alternative takes but oh well. I got enough Diddley beat to last for a few years now lol.
Uh man, those Fela box sets. Sadly not in my price range, but many of the individual albums have been reissued in affordable pressings.
I noticed you flip through the Pavement section. Never seen you show any of their records. Do you know them/like them? I'm thinking they're right up your alley.
Also, that Savages album priced at 12$ is killer! And those Bill Evans RSD titles... Drooling here!!! 😁
I use to have a lot of Pavement CDs but never got totally into them Jacob. That was the time when I was buying so much music. I do need to try them again as many groups I now enjoy after taking time to soak them in
Steve, nice tour of Wazoo Records. I saw some prices that didn't look outrageous. I do have one Bo Diddley album from 1958, right at the cut-off of your box set. Thanks, Chris
I use to have 3 or 4 albums by Bo, they use to be fairly cheap. Those days are gone now. I like his hits but you can only handle so much if him Chris
Steve, wazoo looked killer. I could get into the CDs also. Nice Fela box set. In the past few years, the more Fela Kuti you have shown, the more Fela reissues I’ve seen in the wild. Nice Bo Diddley. Peace ☮️ Namaste 🙏 the Zonkman
The market has been flooded with Fela albums since he made so many. Most only have 2 songs so he had 3 to 4 albums a year coming out. I have to decide if I really need anymore box sets as I’m doubling up in albums and how much Fela can I listen to lol
Very nice looking store. These are really great looking box sets. The Bo Diddley looks amazing!
I had wanted that Bo Diddley on RSD but it was sold out. This is all I need from Bo though I wish it had been the original albums in track order. Still, it has the beat!
I haven't had to walk up a flight of stairs at a record shop since i visited Jerry's Records in Pa. That's my kind of store. Great t-shirt. That's a wonderful Fela set; I spin the set that you gifted me often. I think I have to have that Bo Diddley box! I was spinning "I',m A Man" earlier today. Great sets, Steve.
I have been to Jerry’s also, that place is overwhelming for sure. I think I should have enough Kuti now Mark. How much does one person need to. Time to move on…maybe lol.
Great record store tour, and that Bo Diddley Box Set is now on the list. Beautiful packaging. Thanks for sharing! 😎🎶🎸
I did so many records stores in MI but also other states as my previous job had me do a lot of traveling. I have found some wonderful items through the years
Nice views around Wazoo Records..interesting that you mentioned the owner is struggling to find collections for resale..that's exactly where my independent is at right now..he used to email pix of records to me almost weekly, now it's barely once a month.
I keep meaning to check out Fela Kuti, I know I'll enjoy it.
So many people are trying to snap up collections. Every owner I have talked to says the same thing Rob. Waiting for some people to start selling. My local guy has had kids selling off stuff but it’s groups I really don’t care about. Kuti has such a vast catalog. I would always recommend his 70s material. I Zombie is a good one.
Hey Steve! I love visiting Wazoo when I can, but what keeps my visits rare is the parking situation - as you mentioned. Definitely a place to visit if you don't have to drive in or can time your visits to when campus isn't booming (that's my strategy, anyway). Very cool box sets! Thanks for sharing!
Dave it has been over 8 years since my last visit. As I was getting close I then remembered the parking issues, groan. Glad I went, the owner was great
Hey Steve
Been a while since I went to Wazoo usually hit Encore and Underground. Cool box sets
Take care Brian ☮️
Brian I wish I had time to hit the other three. I go by Ann Arbor at least once a month but it had been 8 years since I stopped to look at a record store.
I really enjoy listening to your description of the albums! Very entertaining!😊
Some of these had some pretty good stories associated with them especially Kuti who was so extremely political. Interesting guy though he had a lot of issues himself
Kinda reminds me of Jerry’s Records in Pittsburg but on a smaller scale. Saw a few that I have from that record wall. Safe travels my friend.
Thank you Andre. We had our first showings on our house today and already have an offer. I go to sign on the rental house today. Someday I will even visit a record store again.
Welcome To Ann Arbor , Home Of The National Champion 🏆 Michigan Wolverines !
Omg David, yes I went even after that. lol. Go Big Red
Hey Steve! What a clean well organized store Wazoo is! Nice tour! Great, what looked to be an OG Magot Brain! I have that Pablo Montreux 77 box set. It’s a great one. I was hoping you pick up that Lee Oscar record for $8.00. Based on what I know about your fascination with Latin rhythm music I believe you would truly love that album. You may even own it already. Beautiful box sets you shared! Fela! Bo! Great alternatives to the high cost difficult if not impossible to find originals. Moving forward I’ll be corresponding with you from my new channel handle The Vinyl Record Mission. I subbed you back. Any love would be greatly appreciated. Take care, Steve.
Hi Steve, I need to get some plugs out for your channel though I did like the mixture of food and vinyl! I just wasn’t in the mood to buy a lot with the pending move. Still trying to figure out our new cost of living That said I did show 2 box sets but I got those before hand lol. I guess those steps to the record store meant you had to Go Up The Wazoo!
Hahaha! You crack me up, Steve! Up The Wazoo! A great title for a Butthole Surfers album yes? I truly appreciate you mentioning our new channel adventure when it’s convenient for you. I believe it’ll fun to watch what we fine in this vast vinyl time capsule. Hope you get settled in soon and everything works out beautifully for you and your family.
I like Wazoo Records. I found a lot of great albums there last November. A Bo Diddley Box huh? Didn’t you say that all you need is one album, because each song sounds the same! Ha Ha
Haha, yeah I did say that about Diddley, now I got all the major stuff I need from him Michael and some crap I didn’t need lol.
Tomita's Planets is fun. That's a reasonable price. I think I ordered from them before.
It’s a great little store Jeff. Always nice to see places that have lasted for decades Jeff
Fantastic context on Fela Kuti, as a new fan, appreciated that. I’m probably sticking to his 5 most popular albums...it’s a bewildering catalogue!
Harris, I’ll send you a note on what I think are some of his best albums. It is a bewildering array of albums. Kuti made King Gizzard look bad for not releasing much material. It is funky though
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 That would be fantastic Steve, he makes The Fall's catalogue look approachable!
Steve, You are A Man on the move. Awesome, Awesome Video!!!
My past couple job allowed me to travel a lot so I saw a ton of record stores. I have more to show I enjoy doing these to give people a look at what other stores look like.
Nice tour, Steve, thanks for sharing. Those guys at TMR sure have an eye for design.
David, very true about TMR, they really wanted to make something very special including quality material. I wish the box set had done his albums in track order and then added the extra stuff on another album.
Very cool Steve. thumbs up! Trish
Trish, always good to get a thumbs up from you my friend. I have been loving your photography.
One or two Feta is all I need. Same goes for Bo Diddley.
Diddley I can understand that, this took care of my itch. I may have reached my limit on Fela, may have, still debating that one Richie
You should have picked up the Woodentops and Ed Kuepper records; both are good.
That’s why I like doing flips so I can hear about the cool stuff I missed ! I don’t know either of those albums? Are they jazz?
Hey Steve I only have a wee bit of Fela Kuti in my collection, what would you say are the top albums to collect because he has quite a few
Dean, I would stick to his stuff from the 70s, his band was Africa 70. Zombie and Yellow Fever are great. He does a cool album with Ginger Baker- called Live that is fun. London Scene is an early one that really is the beginning of the Afro beat records. Roforo is another good album. Most of the 70s stuff is being reissued and have a great groove to them Dean
You can never have too much Bo Diddley, Steve. Never. - JT
lol JT, well I have a lot of it now! I still got three more record store videos including our trip to RPM.
I saw Bob Mould in Ann Arbor about 4 years ago.
That would have been fun Martin. I really like his music
Love the record store tours. Prices were a little up there but he did have a variety. The box set were interesting.
I did find some good prices at Wazoo, at least what I bought according to discogs was priced decently. I just didn’t need to pick up much with the move. I showed self control!
Been a few years since I been there but got a couple good things
It had been over 8 years for me but since I was leaving the state I wanted to hit it one last time
Yahoo ! Wazoo Records. Have Great week Steve.
Mike, I was born in Wahoo, yahoo sounds like wazoo lol. I like words the end with oo.
Reminds me of In Your Ear Thayer St. Providence......
Where is that at?
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 closed many years ago, but reopened in Warren RI
About time you wore a collar to the record store Mike. I think it's your son's good influence of getting you out of the basement and into the world.
Saints (Monkey Puzzle is a good post Ed Kuepper album) and Lime Spiders. Yep good record store!! Stringer Bell put together a Fela Kuti box set!?! I have half of these, as well as a chewing stick. I got a Bo Diddly double LP best of...sorted! That is a nice box though. Cheers...Mike
Wow, you got a chewing stick, great you no longer have to brush your teeth Mike. Who doesn’t love someone with splinters in their smile! I really considered both the Saints and Spiders album but I grabbed the Undertones debut instead. Awesome album Mike
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 Can't disagree Mike that Undertones debut is a banger!
When you're at that record store, you're literally "Up the wazoo!" I'm very concerned. I think you need to take time to do a serious life lesson. You need to sit in a quiet room with the lights down low. If your legs still cross, cross them. Close your eyes and empty your mind. Then quietly but repeatedly chant, "I do need them all. I do need them all." The very best of luck with this. I have my fingers firmly crossed for your recovery.
Darrell, I thank you for your continued support on my mental well being. Retirement has stressed me out especially since going to work for my son. I definitely need to find my zen again and once again visit record stores. You truly are my vinly yogi
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 My rates for ultimate self realization are very reasonable and I am a fully licensed and bonded Third Eye installer.
i get it. you go up the wazoo !
lol, yes, that is it Bruce
För en trävlig skivaffär Thanks for taking us with Steve 😊
Morten always a pleasure taking you shopping. You at least do t worry about parking
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 I worry you won’t find decent record shops in the biggest city in America to never produce a top tier rock act 😄 Just watched a video from opening day at Coors field. I miss Denver.
