Hello Steve; Antique stores have been known to overprice the merchandise. There are many $1 & less records in those bins, priced way above the vic. A Katana sword hanging on the wall in your record room would look good, along with the Dad's Fix It Shop sign. Talking Heads, nice that you got it back. Take care, Tina & Pat!!~
Funny you mentioned a sword. I have a true Kumdo sword, Korean version of a katana sword. I was a black belt in the discipline When getting the black belt we bought our sword, quite expensive. I even went to Korea to cut with the master instructors. In the flood my sword got ruined badly rusted. I finally found someone that could clean it properly and knew its value. I got it back a week ago and it’s now on my mantle. I looked at their pretend swords at the shop, I am now once again a lethal weapon lol
Wow. Prices are high there. Not like that here. I’ve been doing a 5 pt series of antique stores. Prices here are considerably less. Always fun to watch Steve. Take care art
You are the antique store guy Art. I have have so much insane prices in CO and in MI. It has been a long time since I have found a shop with reasonable prices.
I can’t say I will go back either Brian. I just like to torture myself by visiting these places. I loved the owner but I’m not paying $13 for Shaun Cassidy.
That looked an interesting store, Steve. I've not been in lots of antique stores, but the few I have I've never seen them selling records. Maybe I should try a few, though at those prices!..
In the US Andy antique stores have gotten into the vinyl craze, they all seem to have some. Sadly they have no idea of pricing so most of it is jacked way up. Use to be the place to find bargains, not much anymore
Those prices at the antiques mall are all over the place! Was that a one-of-a-kind Santana album I saw with the duct tape? I just picked up the Talking Heads reissue as well. It's great having all of the songs. 👍
Cool store, Professor but I would NEVER pay those prices...ever...Glad you got the Talking Heads reissue too - not my cup of tea but I know how much you love them...enjoy it, sir!
i’ve never ventured into antique stores. but that’s prob for the best. colorado springs used to have a great chain of record stores called Independent. They closed down last summer. Was able to make one last trip which was cool. and of course there was an Amy’s Donuts down that way too which was nice. haha. I thought they were working on building your new annex The Steve Carlson Museum. I’ll put up Untouchables Decade of Dance vs that Talking Heads album as best live album ever.
Untouchables Decade of Dance? That is a new one Steve. You have me intrigued now. Amy’s Donuts? Is that the go to place? I will be making it back to Colorado Springs to check out their actual record store hopefully soon
Does Earl Scheib have a booth at that antique mall? When we had the brick and mortar record store I had a customer who would buy records out of our $1.00 bins and sell them in his much smaller record shop down the road lol. He would mark them up to $4.99. Glad we could help lol. WOW no outer sleeves and price stickers snack on the front cover. And those prices! 😮 That’s the kind of record store where you’ll find a $1,000 rarity in the dollar bin. 😂 $12.99 for Shawn Cassidy?! Bonkers! Cool Taxi Driver soundtrack!
My friend in MI with the store has a very big dollar room but also a lot of $5 album. A guy who owns a store about 40 miles away would come to his store to stack up on inventory. I visited his store, smaller little college town, but man his prices were kind of steep. It would seem a lot of people with no business acumen do this ad ten wonder why they crash and burn
Hi Steve. We have the same issue with antiques places in the UK. Some of the dealers don't know the difference between albums and 12 inch singles and just slap the same prices on everything.
Gidday Steve, shop certainly does have an oddball range of stuff. I could spend hours there. With my own collection I would be picky and choosey about how much I would pay. Thanks.
Ken, I have paid too much at times because I didn’t really research the prices. Oddball I could tell right away it was way too expensive. It sure did have some real interesting stuff.
Not a bad looking shop Steve. But their prices are set way too high. I often wonder when I see high prices if the store in question really wants to sell their records. {smile} I am sure that you were thinking the same thing when you aw certain titles. Thanks for the tour~ Rob/Boston
Rob, this kind of antique pricing has become far too common in my travels. It’s like mark it high so people will think it must be valuable. And the condition of the jackets and vinyl were rough. Buyer beware.
Hiya Steve. The records you looked at… the store was nice but the records looked like the kind you see underneath a rusty bike and a broken ping pong table in a garage. Was that snobbish of me? Ok, car-hole. I’m very tempted to get Stop Making Sense, and that one in particular. Have a lovely weekend Steve.
Yeah, those albums were rough. They are the ones the record stores says they don’t want. A lot of people were shopping them though not sure how many bought Morten
Geez! I’ve only went to antique type stores a couple of times looking for records and they were priced like these. Even worse at a pawnshop I went to. They were laughable! I like your outside shots.
Old section of Colorado Springs looks gorgeous… Very cool shop, love the Knick knacks, Elvis and music section… As for the vinyl, when Andy Gibb album is priced around $15… All prices I saw were too high and the condition? They should at least do a bit of homework on Discogs no?
Hey Steve I don’t think you missed anything in that store 😂 Found a nice early pressing of Funkadelic Free Your Mind …today at Greenlight still in shrink! Take care Brian ☮️
Yep, those antique stores aren't so much honey holes these days. I still look, but I tend to claim victory when I can find a record for what it's "worth" according to Discogs. At least I save the shipping, right? My wife & I were in Colorado Springs a few years back and I stopped in to Earth Pig (didn't score) and Independent Records (scored some nice finds), but missed out on Oddball. Wish I hadn't! Anyway, I read somewhere that Independent closed shop a year or so ago, which is a bummer. They had some really nice prices and selection.
Dave, I could only find one independent record store in Colorado Springs. We went to Oddball as it was the closest store to us at the time. I guess you keep going back to places like that with the hope that just maybe you will find a treasure
Hmm slim pickings in the store you showed. Reminds me of some of the UK antique shops I go to - I usually come away pretty disappointed. I noticed the Shaun Cassidy records, I don’t think anyone would want those. Over here the equivalent racks are full of Leo Sayer and David Essex.
Ah yes, Leo Sayer, we have a lot of those in the bargain bins. Not so much David Essex but a lot of his stuff may not gotten released here except for Rock On, a song I really love but the rest of the album is so so. Times have changed John, harder to find a bargain.
I pay alot for the records I get but they are first addition, brand new and by brand new I mean this year. I don't even go into record stores in the Detroit area anymore because their prices for new and old releases are insulting. Like you said Steve ' I keep the mailman busy.
No kidding Martin, you had a store you liked in Warren. Prices have gotten back. My store in Midland always gave me very fair prices but now I don’t have that I have done my on line buying since I moved out here Ad no, Shaun Cassidy stayed put!
Steve, I have given up on antique stores. I guess I don’t really dig anymore. I just go to local shops for the most part. Some of those are too high also. Lol. I’m just a cheap ass! Peace ☮️ Namaste 🙏 the Zonkman
Lots of antique stores price like that - but we have two near us where the records are $3 and can have amazing stuff. Those records were horribly priced.
I have to say, that store would not be my cup of tea. I spied so many dollar bin records going for 15 to 20 bucks. Those Anne Murray albums fetch almost nothing here - and she’s Canadian! The vinyl also didn’t seem to be in good shape. If you’re going to price Al Martino records as if they were Dark Side of the Moon, at least have them in mint condition! They still have buck bins around here. I was in a store last weekend and they were selling records at 10 cents apiece. I picked up 90 - including about 20 or-or-so classical box sets in wonderful condition. When I was paying for them, the guy behind the counter said, “Take whatever else you want for free, we need to get rid of them.” I also don’t think they really know what “Oddball Records” really are. Ella Fitzgerald? I could show them some records that would make their eyes spin.
Holy crap, you found 90 albums that you did t have lol. I got a bunch of free classical box sets also. Even my local store in Midland just told me to grab them. After the flood some guy sent me three big boxes of them. He apologized haha. Pretty sure he wrote that down as a donation for taxes lol. You seem to still find the deals as you adopt those records that others pass on. Darrel, the Vinyl Saint!
Of course I'm going to click something that says oddball in the subject heading Mike. Prices for records new or 2nd hand has gotten ridiculous. I'm going to learn how to stream 👍Love Stop Making Sense & the movie. I don't know what my favourite live record of all time is. Maybe The Celibate Rifles Kiss Kiss Bang Bang? That or The Aints S.L.S.Q. They're the two that instantly come to mind. Cheers...Mike
Insanity in the vinyl market. I use to get so much stuff from the antique store Now they price it so it stays there longer maybe in hopes that it will cost even more money, just nuts. As far as you favorite live albums…???? No doubt they are awesome Mike!
Good point, if someone buys it then the price must be right. Often I see the same album there for a long time. I guess that helps make it even more of an antique lol
Richie, I don’t spend a ton of time digging either as I don’t have the patience shifting through crap. I have a list in my phone that I try to concentrate more on though those damn walls can get me to buy something I had not planned to buy. That called good marketing lol
Steve that was one of the coolest record stores I’ve ever seen! Thanks for the tour 👍🏻
It was a lot of fun. I just did another antique store last week that was also just fun to walk around in and look
Hello Steve; Antique stores have been known to overprice the merchandise. There are many $1 & less records in those bins, priced way above the vic. Great tour of this store. I probably won't visit. Cool Talking Head! I have an OG, but I should probably have grabbed this reissue.
I can’t say I will go back either Brian. I just like to torture myself by visiting these places. I loved the owner but I’m not paying $13 for Shaun Cassidy.
What a very Kool store. I saw some lava lamps 😅. Fun visit Steve 🎉
Fun visit, just too expensive for my blood and that is coming from me Greg lol
That looked an interesting store, Steve. I've not been in lots of antique stores, but the few I have I've never seen them selling records. Maybe I should try a few, though at those prices!..

lol Mark, yes Santana had a limited collectors edition of duct taped album covers. Extremely valuable and hard to find lol.
Nice that you got that TH back. Probably the only one I don’t have. Those prices are crazy. Cheers.
Jack, insanity has taken over the antique stores. Bargains can be found if you have a lot of time to look
Cool store, Professor but I would NEVER pay those prices...ever...Glad you got the Talking Heads reissue too - not my cup of tea but I know how much you love them...enjoy it, sir!
Crazy prices TC. I wonder how they decide how much to charge? I have been finding to much of his kind of pricing
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 It's bad up my way too, it's why I stick with trusted online outlets that I know aren't gouging me...:-)

Everybody is jumping on the vinyl band wagon. Obviously some think if it’s a record people will pay whatever for it James. Hard to find a deal anymore
I agree with you Steve, the dollar bin has turned into the five dollar. I’ve become more selective in what i purchase. Boy, how times have changed!!
Hasn’t it Tony, in just a few years. Eventually the market will adjust itself and then we can reap the rewards!
Gidday Steve, shop certainly does have an oddball range of stuff. I could spend hours there. With my own collection I would be picky and choosey about how much I would pay. Thanks.

Geez! I’ve only went to antique type stores a couple of times looking for records and they were priced like these. Even worse at a pawnshop I went to. They were laughable! I like your outside shots.
I have not tried a pawn shop before. People with no idea just blindly pricing records like they are a rare commodity
Old section of Colorado Springs looks gorgeous… Very cool shop, love the Knick knacks, Elvis and music section… As for the vinyl, when Andy Gibb album is priced around $15… All prices I saw were too high and the condition? They should at least do a bit of homework on Discogs no?
The shop itself was a lot of fun, I love eclectic shops but it made me wonder about the pricing of everything else after seeing those album prices.
Hey Steve
I don’t think you missed anything in that store 😂 Found a nice early pressing of Funkadelic Free Your Mind …today at Greenlight still in shrink! Take care Brian ☮️
Leave it to Greenlight Fantastic find Brian. How they keep finding so much great heat is a mystery
I think the most interesting item in that first bin may have been the cheapest: Spirit's 12 Dreams in what looked like nice condition for eight bucks.
Eight dollars was a bargain, maybe it was only for the cover Michael.

Hi Steve - Many antique stores will call the booth owner if you make a reasonable request on an item. I worked at one for a summer & did it all day.
Very true David, I would hope he would do that here because the starting price point was kind of whacked.
