      Sixpounder has the best solos.

    • @AgeofJP
      @AgeofJP 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@miguelrochefort I recently listened through Hatecrew Deathroll a few times and realised every damn song on that album has a pretty much perfect solo section or rather everything that comes between the first chorus and the 2nd. Sixpounder is the most obvious but I was most amazed with the solo segments from Chokehold (Cocked'n'loaded) and You're Better Off Dead (especially the keyboard solo) by how perfectly they transitioned in and fit in the atmosphere of it's respective song.
      When it comes to solo's that just fit perfectly HCDR is a highly underrated album, but it has to be said that these solos are not as difficult as many of the sick Follow The Reaper songs. Follow the Reaper, Bodom After Midnight and Kissing The Shadows require more skill to play than any HCDR song (not only because of the solos) but that doesn't mean the solos are better. A guitar player becomes better when he's able to play more difficult solos, but solos aren't better the harder they are to play.

    It's because Europe is the cradle of metal. It's here that it all begun. Specifically in 1970 Birmingham and with the band called Black Sabbath (Americans should be quite familiar with Ozzy Osborne who was the lead vocalist). And the song is about mental struggle, like hitting rock bottom and describing it - hence the name "Downfall".

    The biggest mistake you can make is to analyse Children of Bodom lyrics. They are, and have always been crap. Alexi (the songwriter, vocalist, lead guitarist) says so himself. Musically though, this is some of the absolute best.
    If you want to hear more of their trademark keyboard/guitar solos, I'd recommend Kissing the Shadows or Children of Bodom (songtitle). But honestly, any song from the albums Hatebreeder, Follow the Reaper and Hate Crew Deathroll are a 10/10 for me. I wouldn't recommend anything from Blooddrunk or later, as while still good songs (and I would say some of them even better than the early era) , it's generally speaking not nearly as jawdropping as the first 4 albums. The first album, Something Wild, is also outstanding but suffers from it clearly being the debut album from when they were al around the age of 17/18.

    I wasn't a big COB fan but i love their first 3 albums. Alexi Laiho was great in Sinergy too. Sinergy - To Hell and Back is my favorite album. I remember when Kalmah came out and their were COB fans that would say they were a rip off band of COB. Both good bands but i always leaned more towards Kalmah. Another good band is Immortal Souls.

    Review the band Death. Anything off Symbolic album would be great. Chuck, the main songwriter/ lyricist/ vocalist was considered the father of Death Metal. Great video though keep up good work

    alexis thing always was his anxiety and this feeling of not beeing good enough. he never realy overcome that and hes covered that with alcohol. not drinking is one thing but realizing you can not fall assleep without booze is another. may drugs help for a time but thats not a way your body takes for to long. i for myself listend to fenriz to (i dont go to hikes but i ride my bysicle alot). it dosent solve any problem in your life but you have time to think about your life and you dont drink in while riding and it powers you down and have a good sleep.

    The singer and lead guitarist, Alexi Laiho, was only 19 when this album came out! Pretty crazy to think about; its a pretty mature song for someone that young and the guitar work is INSANE (especially on their album the came out the next year, “Follow the Reaper”). Whats even crazier is how from 2002-2012 his songwriting got less and less mature, which is the opposite of you would think.

    1999-2000 was the years of this kind of stuff, i mean, melodeath and specially power metal, children of bodom combines so good that mix of styles.

    COB are actually one of the upper tier bands as far as popularity and financial backing. Can't believe they've been around for over 20 years already. Not to mention the singer is also the lead guitarist

    Based on the comments, y'all should do Kissing the Shadows by them. The guitar/keyboard solo battle at the end is 2 of the best minutes you'll hear in metal.

  • @Sean-nn5yp

    I'll attempt to demystify the band name via very flawed memory. Their ever-present reaper imagery and references to a Lake Bodom are related to a multiple homicide occurring at a lake by that same name. Three of four campers were murdered, with the survivor claiming to have seen the image of the reaper either committing the act or bearing witness to the aftermath. CoB's an easy favorite of mine in their earlier years, and their more recent release "I Worship Chaos" shows some promise that they're taking a step back in the right direction.
    At any rate, the best introduction to this band is an old live recording of "Kissing the Shadows." Alexi managing to sing (oft-maligned vocals notwithstanding) while carrying lead guitar is mind blowing, with bonus points for dueling guitar and keyboard solos at its conclusion.
