- Atari 50 is an interactive museum experience that's best enjoyed going through the timeline. This collection features over 100 games for arcade, 2600, 5200, 7800, Atari 400 and 800 computers, Lynx, Jaguar and a few more surprises. It also has a lot of behind-the-scenes artwork, fliers, interviews from the people at Atari and so much more. I love this experience and hope future compilation collections will be done in a timeline way like this.
I was sent a digital copy of this game for the purpose of this video. Thank you!

What compilation collection do you want to see next? I'd love to see a 'history of SEGA' collection in this same way with all the great arcades like Quartet, Zaxxon and have it go through the years through to Dreamcast. I bet it's possible.
I would like a mortal kombat compilation collection myself. And I'm definitely getting Atari 50. I've always liked pitfall growing up.
I'd honestly like a gameboy collection on a cart. Do it like the ninja turtles one where you can see advertisements and manuals, have multiple filters and maybe even some Super gameboy enhancements.
Some interesting games there and a top vid
@@db4life925 the collection has NO pitfall. It's only games made on Atari, By Atari. Pitfall is made by Activision.
This is a pipe dream but a compilation of food based games, cheetos,chex,7-up, yo noid, etc it'd be a legal nightmare but a pretty cool compilation
this is how you do anniversary collection or whatever it is.. some (without pointing fingers) are just slapped 4 or 5 games and call it done, no extras etc
I love seeing collections like this. My hope is that we eventually see collections for later console releases, Dreamcast for example.
By 2051 you will be able to get the Dreamcast 50 year collection. Just hang in there.
I grew up on SEGA with the Genesis and Saturn, but always had respect for Atari as I got older. I have my collectors copy on pre-order 😊
This approach is really cool. I hope more companies as they release compilations that it isn't just a rom dump so to speak, but they give you some added content like this.
I know, right? Such a fantastic presentation. Definitely buying on Steam/Switch soon.
Scrapyard Dog is an excellent platform shoot-em-up, one of the best games on the Lynx.
I've just bought this collection on Good Old Games, and having a blast with them. I grew up with Pong at home. My parents had a computer which came with 2 paddles. And you could change the size op the pads and ball speed through switches on the computer itself. Fun times.
An interesting collection, makes me fondly remember the Atari machines.
Haunted Houses sold me on this collection. Haunted House is my all time favorite Atari 2600 game and when I saw it on the game list I thought it was a port of the 360/PS3 version, which would be cool to have as part of a collection but something I already own.
Cloak & Dagger. I loved that movie. I was 8 years old back then. That sweet little old couple scared the crap out of me.
"Where did you learn to fly?"
I have pre-ordered this for my switch. Looking forward to it as I have a round trip from the U.K. to Australia coming up soon, so this will keep me entertained!
Neat approach to a compilation, reminds me of Rare Replay. It's a much better presentation than "Here's a list of games, play them I guess."
Credit where credit is due, this actually looks good. Wondering how accurate the Jaguar emulation is since it's notoriously hard to emulate.
Jaguar emulation has come a long way. It is now perfect on Windows.
Only problem is in Cybermorphe you can't access all the numbers to enter the stage codes. Don't worry there's obviously save states. I was able to enter the Bonus stages though. Some numbers are accessable.
@@AlexDiaz-gw5ov what's the best one Phoenix?
@@jasonmorgan661 If you want a simple setup and only care about games running. Virtual Jaguar is fine. If you want to configure things, then yes, Phoenix.
They could easily rewrite them instead with modern code, instead of emulation.
Welcome to the family
Good video! This collection of Atari memorabilia looks great a fun for any Atari fan! Nice!
My little Caesars growing up had that Touch me game and my mom was a professional musician who could get a free pizza every time.
got my 2600 xmas 1982 14 years nice one cheers uk......
WOW, this is ALOT more than I thought it was... might pick it up someday. Thanks,
Spent a few hours with this today. It’s fascinating - and what a fun way to do a game collection and timeline and documentary all in one neat package.
6:45 "Where did you learn to fly?".
Oh no! Here we go again! 😅
Grabbed the physical switch and the steam version. It really is a museum experience.
That is so awesome!!! For a moment i thought that guy Jerry Jessup was George Lucas.
I wonder if he gets that a lot.
Atari has been in my life since I was 5. Or I guess more so since I can actually remember lol. I picked it up today just for all the behind the scenes stuff and random games/systems I did not spend time with. And Digital Eclipse is top tier at this ideology of historic presentation. Jumping into it later tonight and I am super excited!
Very pleasantly surprised by the original games also included which are enhanced versions. The neo breakout game is with battle breakout is already totally addicting. Original version of Quadrant mentored here is insanely fun game I never even heard of. Very unique.
Love what they did here, the presentation is outstanding, it's like a museum instead of a game dump like this kind of compilations usually are, I'm getting this thanks to your video.
I want the steelbook for this collection. It’s all gold and shiny
Would love to see a ZX Spectrum collection🙏
I love when collections have so much to offer. This looks like a great one to add to my collection.
Great quick, informative video John, thanks.
Hell yeah! Great review!
Mate, thank you so much for reviewing this. Looks amazing.
It's 6am and I'm starting my day with a John Riggs video, yeah! This was good stuff
What a great idea for a collection! 😻
Yes it is 😎
I knew if anyone was gonna make a video about this game dropping, it would be you. I’m contemplating getting it. I love all the collections. Save me from having to have multiple systems.
Hey JohnRiggs thanks for covering this game! 😃
I'm definitely going to try and get this sometime.
I never got a chance to play some of the later Atari system titles and Jaguar titles
so that's awesome to know you get some of those in this collection.
Thanks as always for your time.
Picking up my steelbook version today
Great vid as always!
Missile Command and Tempest ❤
This game is straight up a retro gamer's dream come true! Not just Atari 2660 games, but also the Atari computer games and games for the Lynx and Jaguar including a rich interactive history. I am loving it!
I only ever saw Cloak and Dagger in the movie, "Cloak and Dagger".
That's some lovely graphic design
This looks a brilliant collection, hopefully pick it up tomorrow for either Switch or PS5. Sega please take note ,we want a collection of everything not just Mega Drive. A Sega model collection would be great various games from all Sega arcade model boards
Little Caesars in Yakima in the late 80's was amazing! We would get the two large square pizzas that came in one package. Their pizza used to be really good. None of those $5 pizzas that taste like greasy leather lol.
I LOVE ATARI SEVENTY EIGHT HUNDRED TOO MY FRIEND
AWESOME THANK YOU VERY MUCH TOO MY FRIEND
Man, I really love your content super wholesome super informative, brings back all kinds of memories
I'm loving this collection a lot! It's so well done! 😁
@officialJohnRiggs stop
I'm a Nintendo kid but I was there for the death rattle of atari I think ninja golf just sold me lol
This looks like something that I'd be into.
I twin brother and I started with pong from sears, that was cool cuz you could have batteries in the back for camping, and then we graduated to the Atari. Space Invaders was my game on that one I could turn it over and over. Went over a million a couple of times and quit playing. LOL and then later on I graduated to the Nintendo. PlayStation one, a PlayStation 2 for a little while, and now I have a three for the past whatever years lol. Now Need for Speed is my jam. I just have to find a steering wheel. LOL LOL
Looks like a solid collection!
Looks like an Atari fans dream compilation!
I wish they would do DLC for stuff like licensed games. I’d love Atari arcade Star Wars or 2600 Raiders of the Lost Ark
Nice review! I was kinda on the fence before but I think I might snag this one.
Man I was hoping for Hard Driving and Roller Coaster Tycoon.
If included some Activision Atari 2600 games, should be perfect.
Enduro, River Raid, Pitfall, HERO, etc, etc.
nice looks like i need to get this collection for my switch or any other system that its available on, but switch will the best due to its 100 games and great to play in my hand while my computer is doing an update
It would definitely be cool to see some other gaming companies follow Atari's lead on this.
I have been eye balling this collection for a while I never grew up playing atari but I was hoping that all the games were playable to it full length. I was hoping it to be something like a collection of the flashback systems with all the games to play. I still might get it for giggles
I just find it fascinating that some Jaguar games actually got re-released on modern platforms, that they're not still in denial that the console even existed. Pretty cool. Now if only Sega would do the same with some Saturn love.
I was raised on the 2600 and the Odyssey2. I know probably because of licensing issues they couldn't include the games, but I would have loved to hear the stories about Pac-Man and ET direct from the programmers themselves.
Well yeah! They would have had to pay ILM, Universal and Steven Spielberg for E.T. and Namco for Pacman.
definitely excited for this one! longtime atari fan since the days of the 2600, though I am curious to try out the Jag and Lynx games, I never had either so it'll be all new to me! hoping to pick this one up soon.
I’m looking forward to this i could’ve bought this but tactics ogre just came out
Wish they would've added in an Activision/Imagic games to this collection.
This is actually pretty cool and Im a little surprised at how much work clearly went into this game
It’s nice that they have included arcade games that haven’t been in a collection. The ga me Sabateur reminds of another game called Termoil.
If you have an Atari collection, you can bet your bottom dollar that it will include 3D Tic Tac Toe.
I had this pre-ordered but canceled when I didn't see River Raid on the games list.
I am sure I'm going to enjoy many of the games... but the killer game for me? Tempest 2000!
Other things I"m looking forward to:
- Miner 2049er (Atari 800)
- Various Lynx games
- Arcade hits (Food Fight!)
- Never heard of "ninja golf" but might be fun!
Unsure about the reimagined games but will give them a shot.
Miner 2049 er😅
Robotron 2084, Blaster, Defender, and Sinistar are the most popular Atari games of all time. The most bought and the most played. So how can these games not be on an Atari collection like this?
@officialJohnRiggs HEY. I'm not the one who decided to keep the greatest and most popular Atari games of all time off this thing like Robotron 2084, Blaster Defender, and Sinistar.
awww no atari arcade games?! i want to see more arcade game compilations from companies like we used to years ago on the ps2 and xbox.
I’m honestly shocked at the positive reviews. Expected it to bomb seeing how well “Atari Mania” and “Capcom Arcade Stadium” did.
Wow. Cloak & Dagger! How I wished that game was available when the movie came out. Which I loved. Great nostalgia including the 5200 which I also got. I loved the games Parker Brothers made for it.
I imagine licensing would be a problem. An Atari compilation without Star Wars, ET, Superman, Raiders of the Lost Ark etc would be incomplete. The only Jaguar game that interested me was Aliens vs Predator.
Tiger handheld games compilation
Great vid John! Do you know can you invert the screen?
I didn't!
I picked up the Atari 50th collection steel book from GameStop
If you really did have Waterworld I sure hope you kept it, that game was very rare as only Atari Club members could buy it. Earthworld and Fireworld were everywhere, part of the massive over-saturation of the home video game market.
I’m talking to you Jst25 coward
Jst25 how does it feel to be salty?
Jst25 is very salty indeed baby😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
No online multi player is kind of a kick in the teeth
If Hasbro was still in control of Atari, this compilation would have 2 games and cost $999
Damn. I remember all the RadioShack handhelds. We're getting old👴
I still loved them
Already have Atari Flashback on Switch, but I'm getting this, too. Sure there's some games on both, but the new stuff makes it worth it
Man. I was hoping to see Custer's Revenge make the cut.
Haha
I'll be getting this collection assuming it's getting a physical release. Some might consider this a cash grab since most of these games have been released before on modern consoles, but there is enough new content to make it a worthwhile purchase. It would be great if the license to some rare coin-op games like "STAR CASTLE" "SPIDERS" "VENTURE" "COSMIC CHASM" to name a few could be obtained & released as a "Rare Arcade Games" collection. An extensive SEGA arcade/console collection would be great too.
If they could we gotten a few licensed games it would have been big too. Star Wars was one of Atari’s big arcade hits (and imo the best vector game ever)….And Raiders of The Lost Ark is an important 2600 title. Superman is good too
@@sethwiseman1017 Well they would have to pay Lucas Arts and Lucas Film as well as Warner Brothers and DC comics.
@@sethwiseman1017 The 1983 vector "STAR WARS" from Atari would have been a great addition to this collection. Sadly I wasn't very good at it back when it was around. Vector games like "ELIMINATOR" "TAC/SCAN" "ZEKTOR" I always had the highest score no matter where I played them, but when it came to "STAR WARS", there was no way to invert the camera & that made the game almost impossible for me to play. But it was a great game!
More games were just added via free DLC. Awesome!
Cool
Best game I bought all year. Maybe the best software and multimedia experience I ever seen for a emulator that could easily be exploited to download and embed more jaguar games files.
Reminds me of my wii
I might pick this up for my Switch. New games coming g December 5th via download. They need more Lynx and Jaguar games.
Great compilation. Shame so many of these games need a spinner or trackball to properly experience and enjoy. D-pads and analogue sticks just don’t cut it.
Also, this needs waaaaay more than five 5200 games.
I wonder if the PC version will let you use the mouse...
Is it possible to change/disable borders and filters on the games?
This would be cool if 99% of Atari games didn't look like a couple of square pixels on a flat color background.
@officialJohnRiggs Is that a demonstration of you pushing the single button during a white knuckle game of Atari 2600 game? Exciting
As someone who’s never played an Atari game before, would you say this collection has all or most of the essentials? And how does this compare to the Atari Flashback?
I think this just has Atari made games on it, unlike the Atari Flashback which also had some fun Activision games like Pitfall and River Raid.
@@Cyko.. ah man. I was hoping to see Custer's Revenge make the cut. Just imagine the enhanced version
Both are fine
This collection doesn't have "FLAG CAPTURE" or "DOMINOES", & there are a few other titles in the "Atari Flashback" collections that are also missing from the "Atari 50 Anniversary Collection". But overall I'd say yes, this new collection has all the essentials. What's probably most exciting about this collection though is the inclusion of the Jaguar, 5200, 7800, games as well as the new versions of some of the classics. And of course all the history included with the videos.
I find I gravitate towards the older games. Been playing outrun and elevator action mostly.
would be great if they added a DLC for MORE of the Atari 800 games
The fact that is has tempest 2000 is enough reason for me to get one.
Pre-ordered October 16, 2022
Arriving Tue, Nov 22, 2022
Dang it, Amazon.
I canceled the pre-order and went to my local GameStop to pick up a copy.
So if AirWorld is out, does that mean the contest is back on?
I wish they would an offer this as an affordable mini console I can't afford the new Xbox or PS5 even if I could find available
Do the Jaguar games run full screen aswell ? is there an option in the settings to do this?
Here's the real question... is Polybius on here???
All joking aside, this is already bookmarked in my Nintendo Switch store. I have fond memories of my dad hooking up the 2600 in the living room and playing Berzerk.
I'm hoping Berzerk is on here?
