    Yeah, that part about putting make-up on before a significant other wakes up is so relevant. For me, though, it extended to family and friends. So yep, I wore face make-up EVERY day for my life for about 4 years. It affected me a lot. I cancelled plans, missed school and missed work and the worst thing was I have OCD tendencies, and so I picked like mad at my skin and made it worse ten times over. Dark times. I missed out on a lot because of it.

    Doxycycline is used to treat acne because it is anti inflammatory. Like you said, it's not a cure. I love panoxyl and tell everyone with acne to use it! The mask method is perfect. Thanks for the plug for my profession (dermatologist)! I love this video, as it is accurate 👍🏻👍🏻

      it's really good! BUT you should definitely do your research and see if it will work with your skin type... i've got loads of friends that started using it and noticed that their skin got worse. this can either be because it's not so great for your skin type or because you are using more than you should. for example, if you use more than you should when you have a zit it can actually make it worse (this has happened to me a couple of times). i definitely recommend it, but just do a bit of research about it ;)

    I had no idea you struggled with acne like this. The picture you showed of your acne is pretty much identical to how mine used to be. It really can make you feel so insecure and defeated everyday. I went on birth control and it cleared it up for me. Switched to a cheaper version and the acne came back, so I switched to the original one again. It sucks to be reliant on medication but it's the only thing that has worked for me. Thanks for sharing your story

    I've suffered with really bad acne since I was 15 and am 23 now and still struggle with a little of acne, but mostly discoloration and acne scars.
    I used SO many prescribed medications, orally and topically, and still struggled with it, or it just ended up coming back.
    I tried everything! and I just started using essential oils about two months ago and it has been the ONLY thing that has ever worked for me! For my acne and just my overall skin health. I saw you liked Rosehip! I use lavender, geranium, carrot seed, and frankincense for my skin! Just wanted to share what worked for me, cause I feel your skin struggle, girl!

    All I can say is THANK YOU! You just helped me have an ah-ha moment when you said the nuvaring was making you flare up. I'm 20 years old and I thought cystic acne was a thing of my past, but it recently got TERRIBLE. And you helped me put 2 and 2 together because I just got put on the nuvaring about 7 months ago (right when my acne started again). But I love the convenience of my nuvaring and I don't want to abandon it, so thank you for helping me believe that clear skin is possible while still on the nuvaring.

    I was on Doxycycline for a few months and those were the worst few months of my life.. No matter how I took it, the pills made me throw up every time without fail. And I thought it was helping (it wasn't) so I just dealt with getting sick 24/7. If it works for others, that's great! Everyone should just be careful before taking skin advice from anyone other than a doctor, because everyone's bodies are different 💕💕 I'm going to test out the rose hip oil for my scarring though, and I'm excited to hopefully see results!

      were you eating food with it? both times I took doxycycline the derm told me to eat food (not dairy) while taking it or I would get violently ill. lol. Gotta love side effects!

    • @sarahe.289
      @sarahe.289 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, they told me that too! So I took it with food which made me extremely sick, then they told me to try eating it without food and it did the same thing.. Either way I guess doxycycline just didn't agree with my body :( But I've heard it's super effective for most, and I'm glad it worked for you! I did go on accutane (which is supposed to have super harsh side effects) shortly after and literally had no problems besides dryness!

    • @ishikasingh4704
      @ishikasingh4704 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I tried doxycycline for a while too, and initially it didn't have effect on me, however sometimes I would be like you and it used to make me throw up. My dermatologist then prescribed me with isotretinoin for 6 months and my acne cleared up straight away! although it does lead to really dry skin and lips! Hope this helps! xx

    I love you and your videos but I just wanted to point out that acne doesn't have to be "horrible" is just a condition that some of us have (My acne was very severe almost all last year until I found the right way to treat it) But the reason I usually don't like acne history videos it's because they portrait it as a tragedy instead of normalizing it, yes I KNOW it can have a huge impact in your self esteem and the way others treat you and even your mental health but that's because all of the stigma we put in it, yes your skin can get better if you work on it or with time but it's important to not let it take over your life, you can still feel pretty and look good and have a good time without obsessing over it. 💙

      AND YES ABOUT THE FINALLY BEING ABLE TO LEAVE YOUR HOUSE WITHOUT YOUR MAKEUP I RELATE SO MUCH BC I DID IT WHILE MY ACNE WAS SEVERE BUT YES PEOPLE ARE JUDGY AND MY SELF ESTEEM WASN'T AS GOOD AS IT NOW SO I HATED IT (But I'm proud that I did it because it was like a personal goal to defeat that fear) BUT YES NOT WANTING TO COVER UO YOUR SKIN FEELS SO GOOD AFTER A LONG PERIOD OF ACNE.

    I love love love "acne story" videos like these because it's really interesting to hear other peoples stories and struggles with acne. I think videos like these are so incredibly important because they let people know that mostly EVERYONE goes through it! I too suffered with acne for many years starting in 6th grade when I was 13 and continuing on through my 18th birthday. I tried everything to no avail, minocycline, doxycycline, tazorac, multiple benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid washes, chemical peels, laser treatments, etc. My final resort and savior ended up being Accutane. After trying everything under the sun my doctor finally prescribed it to me with a slew of cautionary tales and warnings. Side affects were things like depression, dry skin, anxiety, mood swings, blood thinning, etc. I also had to get on birth control and take regular blood tests to make sure everything was okay inside of me. After a week my skin went from cystic, red, and miserable to 100% baby smooth and clear. It was like a miracle. It changed my life completely. I was on it for 6 months total. After I got off it the affects wore off a bit but still kept my acne at bay. I am now 21 years old and have been off Accutane for 3 years. I do still break out but my dermatologist taught me about the important of routine maintenance. Finding a skin care routine that works for you is so important. I still to this day use Aczone and a Retin-A to help prevent breakouts and do away with scarring and redness. I also moisturize, cleanse, tone, and use a nightly oil. I think the moral of my story like many is that it can be controlled. Maybe I still get breakouts here and there but the improvement does happen over time. Hope anyone out there currently struggling with Acne knows it will get better!

    YAAAS. Clindamycin cleared my acne SO WELL! I got the topical solution not the cream.
    I was resistant towards medication at first too and even cleared my cystic acne prior with McDougall diet aka high carb low fat vegan diet. When I stopped eating all oil and food containing oil my skin cleared in literally TWO WEEKS. Highly recommend McDougall diet to anyone who can't afford dermatologist appointments and medication. Much love xx

    Another tip to add: if you're using an exfoliating face wash (not acne medicine) a lot because you think it will get rid of the oil in your skin STOP! Your face is an organ that actually exfoliates itself when you stop trying to take control and when you use harsh products. I had really severe acne, was on similar products listed by Arden but stopping my exfoliation actually reduced my pimples the most! Hope this helps a rosebud out! 💕

    Completely up to you, I'm a broke little gal with acne but I highly recommend seeing a naturopath over dermatologist. Diet is so specific to who you are, "healthy" doesn't mean healthy for you. Most of the time acne is an internal problem, and getting medication from doctors who don't look into your root problem and luvv prescribing their shiz, may be masking a more serious problem ! :)

      It definitely does work.. but the results aren't always permanent. I went on it for the first time when I was 14, skin cleared up great.. and then when I was 19, my acne returned and I went on it again. Same as before, my skin looked great after.. and then again, at 22 my acne came back to haunt me, and I am now 25, still dealing with it (because I refuse to go on accutane for a 3rd time). I guess what it comes down to is what is causing your acne.. if its bacterial vs hormonal (mine is hormonal). This isn't always the case though and a lot of people do have permanent results! Best of luck x

I was a candidate for accutane and was about to go on it until I tried out an oil free diet...sounds crazy but my cystic acne cleared in two weeks....the oil you eat can strongly affect the skin. • @anniemitchell6942
    @anniemitchell6942 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I have had acne since 6th grade (I'm a junior in high school now!). I went to multiple dermatologists but they only gave topical medications and it wasn't working. Finally, when I was a sophomore, I started a taking birth control pills. This helped some acne on my chin and significantly helped everything with my period (such as flow, length of time, pain, etc.) In the summer of junior year, I took antibiotics for 30 days because my dermatologist wanted to make sure I could handle going on heavier medication to clear up my body acne and face acne. Once I finished the antibiotics, I went on a very heavy duty pill called Accutane. The medical name is Isotretinoin. Accutane is so severe that it can cause birth defects if you get pregnant. I was forced to be on two types of birth control becayse of this, so I chose abstinence as my other form of birth control (because I was already taking the pill). After one week of being on Accutane, I saw immediate changes in my skin. I had little pimples across my forehead that were all gone. The rest of my acne (on my chin, jaw line, back, and chest) cleared up within a month. Accutane comes with major side effects, though. My skin is very pale so I get sunburnt within minutes of being in the sun. Accutane only make this worse. Significantly worse. Just walking between classes at campus I get sunburnt. My lips and face are at an all-time dryness because Accutane basically stops your oil glands from producing any oil. I was struggling so much with the lips that I considered going off Accutane because it was getting very painful. I discovered Aquaphor for my lips and Cetaphil moisturizing cream for my face and my problems were solved. I kid you not, my lips started to change the second I put on Aquaphor. However, these creams, balms, and the actual medications itself do add up in cost. I haven't bought an actual tube of Aquaphor yet because my dermatologist gives me small samples every time I come in to her. There are certainly alternatives to the lotions and balms but I rely on Aquaphor for the lips. No other lip balm or chapstick does the trick so I think it is worth the extra money if you have it (or just ask your dermatologist for samples like me!). I would also like to point out that you have to go to the doctor every month when on Accutane because you need to get your blood drawn. If you have high triglycerides in your blood, your doctor will most likely ween you off Accutane because it is a dangerous pill. I have to fast for 8 hours or else my triglyceride level is very high. They also need to make sure you are not pregnant, which is why I had to take two pregnancy tests before starting Accutane. I have heard from a lot of people that their skin continues to stay clear after being on Accutane which is something I am very hopeful about. I think once I am done with Accutane I will continue to stay on the birth control pills because they have made my period much more manageable and way less painful. Comment me back if you have any questions or clarifications! I've been through it all!!

    • @anniemitchell6942
      @anniemitchell6942 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      by the way, Accutane for me was my last resort because nothing was working for 6 years! If you haven't tried topical medication or changing your skin care routine, do that first before you go on heavy medication such as Accutane.

    you're SO spot on when you say you never realised how bad your skin was until you look back! I am in the same situation, I never thought my skin was that bad because my sister had really bad acne and mine wasn't as bad as hers but after having it for 3 years I finally tried epiduo and it cleared my skin right up. I honestly never thought I'd be someone who wouldn't constantly be worrying about my breakouts but now I am and looking back my skin was real bad and I wish I'd gone to my doctor sooner because it would have saved me so much time being insecure about my face haha, yay for epiduo lol ❣️

    I've gone to the dermatologist before and all she told me was to "google" things that would help with my skin. I kid you not, guys. I've literally tried everything! My acne isn't severe, but it's noticeable; But what I've noticed helps my skin is using cetaphil face wash and washing my face with WARM (not hot) water and then rinsing it with cold water! I used to be a dummy and wash my face with HOT water (I thought it would kill all the germs and prevent acne) but that just made it worse! Lol so yeah! Try cetaphil guys and only go to the dermatologist as a last resort because sometimes they don't even really help that much 😕

    Thanks so much for sharing your story. :-) I've battled with acne off and on since I was eleven years old. I'm 33 now and I have a pretty good handle on the acne. My breakouts are pretty much limited to my chin/jaw area during "that time of the month". The hard part has been trying to address the acne AND early signs of aging. I've found a pretty good balance in my skincare, treating the acne while avoiding drying my skin out. It changes as time goes on and I've had to remain flexible and open minded and willing to try new things periodically.

    I hate when people say "go to the dermatologist" as the only solution, I can't afford a dermatologist and to be honest they never listen to me and always say the same thing, so I guees I'll have acne till I die.

    • @jejesarchuleta
      @jejesarchuleta 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Luz Mechasqui its not the only solution. personally i regretted going to the same dermatologists for 2 years. my skin would be clear and bright for a few weeks but once i stopped using the meds it all came back, and worst. my whole face was full of acne and it was unbearably itchy.
      you can always opt for more natural alternatives, but again it wont suite for everyone. i use the ocm for 3 years now and I've been vegetarian for a few months. my skin has never been better and my scars even my acne scars on my back are disappearing.
      just to add, oils do help but educated yourswlf on the type of oils and dont expect them to work overnight. its a long process. but im not dependant on any facial soaps or medications and acne creams anymore.

    Rosehip oil saved me!!
    I suffered a terrible breakout when I was around 17. Before that I never had bad skin, maybe a pimple here and there, and some minor subclinical acne on my forehead. nothing that couldn't be fixed with drinking more water.
    But when I was 17 all hell broke lose. I had NEVER broken out on my cheeks before. Even if I got a random pimple it was never on my cheeks. Well that all changed. I got really bad red acne all over my cheeks and chin. Followed by my subclinical forehead acne worsening. Im 18 now and I cleared mine up with doctor prescribed medication. But I've been left with hyper-pigmentation on my cheeks from the bad breakouts. I purchased rosehip oil after watching this video and started using it everyday. I've noticed a HUGE change in my skin. Thank you so much for the recommendation!!

      Using a chemical or physical exfoliant. I don't know what you are currently doing in your routine or what your budget is but investing in a good salycilic acid or glycolic acid (I use paula's choice, but mostly because my skin is super sensitive to stuff in most drugstore products). Some people will tell you not to use a physical exfoliant, but I find that it really helps my skin to get a microdermabrasion scrub with super small granuals. My favorite is the one from derma e, but again it isn't the cheapest product out there. All of the products are midrange price wise so 20-40 USD. There are obviously cheaper alternatives just do your research and read a lot of reviews. I also like to do raw honey masks, just be sure to get organic and raw so that it won't be filtered or have added sugar. I hope this reply helps

    I was on doxycycline as well, I was incredibly sick during that time (suffered from insane nausea every day, all the time) I was also using the same creams as you. My skin was wonderful, for about 6 months. After the 6 months of incredible skin it all came back again. My dermatologist said the last available option was acutane. As someone with psychosis in my family, I was not willing to risk it just for good skin. After that not only did I have bad skin again, but I was left with insane stomach issues. Doxycycline is not gentle. As great as it is watching videos about skin care.. just remember that everyone is different and sadly, some of these things are just a temporary fix. I finally have the skin that I desire after seeing a hormone specialist. Everyones different, so make sure you explore all your options and research them thoroughly. Just my experience and advice, no hate too Arden.

    My skin has been really bad for the past few months, and because of my skin type, my pimples scar. Not like dents, but purple/red discolouration. I'm not too keen on taking pills, but spot treatment (like neutragena stubborn acne cream) irritates my skin. Because my skin is so sensitive, intense creams result in red, flaky, painful blotches on my face. If anyone can relate, please suggest products for me to use!! I would really appreciate the help :)

      Melanie L I used to use tea tree oil to dry out pimples but then I switched to raw honey because it was drying out my face. Mix some raw honey and warm water, soak a piece of gauze, and then tape (band aids or that waterproof bandage tape) on the area that needs to be treated. It definitely won't dry out your skin! I don't really use it for scars but more for pimples.

      My skin is EXTREMELY sensitive, and always has been. I used to have horrible acne, but I found acne.org when i was about 18. i followed the regimen on there exactly, and i have completely clear skin. the only product i use from that website now is the 2.5% benzoyl peroxide gel. for face wash i use either the sensitive skin wipes from burt's bees at night to remove my makeup, or the soap bark & chamomile deep cleansing cream in the morning, then the 2.5% benzoyl peroxide gel, then the burt's bees radiant night cream at night, or the burt's bees brightening day cream in the morning. all the info on the routine is on acne.org, but i replaced the face wash and moisturizer with my own products (burt's bees) because of how sensitive my skin is. good luck love!

      I'm in the same position as you and can totally relate because my skin no longer experiences breakouts but the acne scarring still remains. A couple things that I'd recommend is to make sure to wear sunscreen (to prevent future discoloration/scarring) and for up to a certain point fresh aloe or green tea bags worked for me but honestly the only true remedy to acne scarring is time. Acne scarring takes time to slowly fade away and I am in the same position of dreadful waiting! I hope this helped or gave you more options to see on how to treat acne scarring

    I use the exact same things as you! I recommend it to anyone who needs help with their acne and don't want to take crazy antibiotics!! It takes long to work but it is so worth it. Love you arden !

    This is great advice! It's encouraging that you made so much progress with your skin. I took medication too, but for me, giving up dairy changed the game. My skin is the clearest it's ever been now that I don't eat/drink dairy! Anyway, it's probably just a personal allergy, but it might be worth trying for those struggling with skin issues!

    Thanks so much for this, I used to suffer so badly but it's nice to more people are speaking about it😊But also I know a lot of people don't want to see anybody about their acne, but please do!! Especially if you're here in the UK, it's free! Lol you'll feel so much better within yourself, anyway love you for talking about this, Arden😊❤️
