Finger-Sized 4k Dashcam | OMBAR-DC42 Review!

- This Ombar 4k dashcam has a few very interesting features. First, it's very small! It's so tiny; the length is about the size of my finger! And it's less than one and a half fingers in width. Due to its smaller size, you can easily hide it behind the rearview mirror or, in my case, behind the sunvisor.
I do my own research based on real-life testing that I demonstrated in this video.

2:25 is exactly what I wanted to know, together with rear cameras including side resolution to read licence plates and you repeated these tests at night.
Super well done!
You covered all bases I need.
Thanks so much for this review.
I’m seriously considering purchasing this for our recent vehicle which still has no dashcams even though I have an older one from the previous vehicle.
Once again, this is a very excellent review!
🥰
I was reacntly in a car collision and it was absolutly the other driver's fault, but becuase I didn't have a way to prove it, they didn't get charged with anything and now my car got totaled, somone bought me this dash cam so that I don't have this issue in the future, maybe i'm just still mad about it and i don't it won't change the past, but I will not someone else's stupidity effect my safety again. Thank you for this in depth review, tips and tricks,I will be installing it shortly.
Thank you for this VERY informative video! Everything I wanted/needed to know you covered it. 😊😊❤❤
Super helpful, thank you for all the detail!
Damn man. This was a good video. Nice review!!!
Very good video very detailed Information this was very very helpful THANK YOU MBZ MASTER hugs from Miami
Excellent video, thank you.
Thank you so much for making such a great video. I am glad that I ordered this camera for my wife. Also, I wanted to let you know that your voice and your accent reminds me of Luis pala.
Link works fine - Thank you 👍
Thanks so much, very good guide
this is a good review!
Really enjoying your tutorials! Every Mercedes owner should be made to see them all! I have watched your presentation on the two dash cameras you are showing. My 2018 E class has a rear window “shade” that is electrically controlled by a switch on the console. When the shade is in the full up position, it comes pretty close to the headliner. Will either of the dash camera rear cameras fit behind the shade, at the top against the window, without interfering with the operation of the shade? Thank you!
You can try to attach it to a headliner, but then it won't do a good recordings if you close the shade. So you'd need to get a system with a waterproof rear camera designed to be installed on the exterior above the license plate. I talked about it a little during the installation of the smart mirror in this video th-cam.com/video/8beJg5AVL6I/w-d-xo.html
What's it called in the UK please
Great video. Very thorough. Have you tried the hardwire kit yet?
I will, in one of my upcoming videos.
After having the camera some time now, have you had any issue with overheating, problems retrieving files, or anything else? Also can you just record without linking it to your phone?
Excellent product review. I bought 2 for our 2 vehicles. Am I able to use both cams on the one app?
Yes, you just need to add the second dashcam to your app.
do you have to constantly free up space on the storage? Or does it do it automatically after a week or so? I feel like i have not seen that on a dashcam yet
It's automatic. Once the memory on the card is depleted, it starts to rewrite the files from the beginning. So if something important is recorded, use a Protect/Lock feature to preserve those files from deleting and download them to your smartphone at any convenient time.
What is the application that I should download from the play store to use with this camera?

Kacam, watch at 10:22 how to set it up.
How well does this hold up in high heat environments like Nevada, Arizona?
The dashcam records while you drive when you use AC anyway. It's not affected by heat when it's turned off.
Does the Wi-Fi have to be ‘ON’ for it to be recording? I start my car and it instantly tells me Wi-Fi is now connected, but then if I use gps it then says Wi-Fi disconnected. Is it still recording and I just don’t see it live on my phone? Or does it stop recoding when the the Wi-Fi is disconnected?? If the latter, how do I get around this? I’m about to go on a road-trip and will be using my gps quite a bit
You don't need Wi-Fi for the dashcam to be recording. The only time you need Wi-Fi is when you connect your app on the smartphone to download the footage or set the settings. Otherwise, dashcam doesn't need the Wi-Fi.
hi, i followed what you did and said. it works well, but the rear camera can make only mirrored videos, it doesnt matter what i am doing at the set up menu. can you help in this problem?
It's a good question to ask the manufacturer at their site. But you can easily flip horizontally using any video editing software, including free ones.
@@MBZMaster Thank you! I wrote a Q for a company, waiting for an answer..
Do you know if this camera works with a OBD2 power source ?
It should. Please contact Ombar directly for a correct cable recommendation.
Hello there, when I use the rear camera it shows everything backwards ( cars parked on my right side they show up on the left side on my IPhone) does anybody noticed it?
If so, is it possible to fix it?
By the way, thank you for your videos
If you watch this video, the part where I demoed how to adjust the settings via your Smartphone starting at 10:22, you'll notice 2 settings menus "Rear Camera Mirror" and "Rear Camera Inversion" Try to change one and see how it will affect your recordings.
Thanks so much! Before your video, I was discouraged that I may never figure out how to get this thing going! I really appreciate it. The only thing I cannot figure out now ( but haven't been able to try as I have to make dinner lol) is how to access anything on the app once i am inside my house and out of range of the devices wifi.. anyone?
Thanks again!
The only time you need to connect to the device via Wi-Fi is when you want to download the footage or change the settings. So, while the footage is downloading, leave your phone inside the car. And you don't need to download all the footage, only whenever something happens.
How come it doesn’t let me see the back camera? When I press switch camera it says “ not supported by the device” thanks in advance
Maybe it's not connected. Check the connectors next to a camera and in the dashcam input. Also, you can contact Ombar tech support for guidance.
@@MBZMaster appreciate the reply thanks
I’m having trouble with accessing the videos while not in my vehicle am I doing something wrong or it only works while in the vehicle? It also mentions 24 hour parking mode and doesn’t record unless the car is on.
Because the videos are on the dashcam's memory card, not on your phone. You can download the footage to your phone via the app, if you want to keep it, as I showed in the video. And then transfer to your computer. Or you can view the videos while connected to your dashcam's Wi-Fi. But if you don't download to your phone, the footage will be eventually overwritten. And there's no reason to download all videos, unless something happened or something important you want to keep.
As for 24 Parking Mode, you'd need to get a hardwiring kit that I mentioned and I have the link in description, because the cigarette lighter is not powered when you turn your car off.
Just out of curiosity, is there a polarize lens that we can use for this camera?
No, it doesn't come with it, but I found those lenses make a very small difference.
@@MBZMaster oh the plastic clear lens that it came with that has the little square?
If you have your phone with you while driving and the camera is connected to its wifi does it use data as though you are searching the internet the whole time?
You don't need your phone for the dashcam to work. It works by itself. You only need to use your cell phone if you want to change some settings or download footage.
How can use the app while using google maps or any other app?
Dashcam works on its own without any app, so you don't have to use it. The only time you use the app on your phone is to download the footage or change settings.
What's it called in the UK - Thanks
If you click the link, it suppose to redirect you to UK Amazon. Let me know if it doesn't work. Thanks!
Does this cam need to be connected to your phone for it to record?
No. You only need your phone app if you want to customize the settings or download the footage. But the dashcam works on its own and doesn't need the phone. You can also transfer the footage via a USB card.
I’m having trouble getting the rear camera to connect I’ve unplugged and replugged and it still says it’s not connected?
Either bad connection, bad camera, or bad wire. Check all 3.
@@MBZMaster wire wasn’t connected all the way to main camera I got it working now thanks
How can I check the date and time of I have a crash and wanna show the police the time and the date
It's embedded on the footage automatically.
Your video is great, I watched million times while installing the camera ( little too fast for me), but I am still struggling with the camera. I don't have anything, no files on the app. The camera is recording back & front. All looks good, but when all stopped, there is nothing there in the app, no files. I am not giving up on this yet. Also I am not going to use the app while driving & taking photos. That should be available automatically from the dash cam on that app when I am on my home wifi. So far I don't like this dash cam.
Don't give up just yet! The dashcam works on its own, regardless of whether you have your cell phone with you, or not, so it doesn't need an app on your smartphone in order to work. The only time you need to use the app is when you need to download the recording footage or set the settings. You can even download the footage to your computer by removing the dashcam from a car (as I showed in the video), and connecting it directly to your computer via a USB cable. Or by removing the SD card from the unit, and inserting it into your computer. But I think it's easier to download via the app on a cell phone. Also, make sure to connect to a dashcam's Wi-Fi (not home W-Fi). The dashcam creates its own hotspot, and you need to connect your smartphone to the dashcam's hotspot, NOT home. It seems to me that your smartphone is not connected to dashcam's hotspot, and since there's no connection between the two, you can't see any files, even if they are there. Watch my video again, and if it's too fast, use pauses to pause the video.
I am having the same issue
We’re you able to resolve it ?
@@SweetBlissRentals The video files are not on your phone but on the dashcam memory card. You can view those files once you connect your smartphone to the dashcam Wi-Fi hotspot (not any other Wi-Fi). If you want to save those files, you can download them to your phone (as I showed in the video) and then view them without connecting to a dashcam or transfer them to your computer.
Did everyone make sure before using the dashcam to sync the microSD correct?
@@ProdigyAuggie Yes, as I mentioned in most of my dashcam videos, you need to format the SD Card before the 1st use, as well as once in 3-6 months.
I bought this via Amazon and now I'm thinking of returning it. Every 2-3 days it asks me to format memory card. I don't understand what's the point of loop recording.
You only need to format the drive at the first use. Maybe it's why it reminds you to do it. Also, I recommend formatting the card on any dashcams at least once in 3 months. That would keep your card from collecting memory. And make sure to use the card with the recommended specs.
@@MBZMaster I did it the first time and I've done it many times ever since. It still keeps reminding me every 2 days.
@@user-iq3cx9fy7v There may be some issues with the SD Card or even incompatibility. Make sure to use the one with compatible specs. Or contact Ombar tech support via their website or their Amazon page for suggestions.
Am I the only one facing issues with slightly shaky footages and not able to read the license plates so clearly?
Make sure the camera is firmly attached to the window.
@@MBZMaster It is - But still shaky as I drive faster.
Probably wouldn't work to good for me.. i have 5% tinted windows in the back
The car in the video also has tinted windows, but not that dark. You may want to change to a lighter tint, or find a waterproof camera for exterior installation.
