  • @CCDragon93

    You make the jumping and catching the ball at its highest point look so easy! It took me half an hour to even start catching the ball properly xD I don't train at a club, but just play for fun on a school playground. It must have looked pretty weird seeing a girl consistently throw up a ball and then jumping while failing to catch it. It did really help to hammer in the footwork and arm swing!
    After about 50 min, I started trying to hit the jump serve, but eventhough I began my first step when I threw up the ball, I kept being late, hitting the ball with my wrist and such. Do you have any more tips on timing the throw and jump?

    • @CCDragon93
      @CCDragon93 8 ปีที่แล้ว +62

      Haha, thank you! I'll try the faster footwork, since I'm already tossing quite high (at least it feels pretty high). Also, I'm going to start playing at a club in August, thank you so much for spiking my interest in volleyball again!

    The hardest part of the jump serve (imo) is the toss. The toss is the most important part of the jump serve because it's basically a set-up for your approach. So you need the right toss for that power.

      Have you improved yet? I really hope you did! I wanna make it to the school volleyball team to. I’ve been practicing for at least a year now (I was in the 8th grade) my Servers always went side ways and all of that. Make sure your hand when you hit it it hits on the middle of the ball inside of the side. Also, if your playing outside, don’t play when it’s windy. That might cause your ball to go sideways. Also, try running outside for at least 15 minutes to increase stamina! And, I actually made the school volleyball team! The couch said was always telling me how good my served where n’ stuff. It may take awhile to improve. But, I’m sure you can get it. Practice makes perfect. I really hope you didn’t give up! :)

      Don't stop practising! I've been training and playing volleyball for about 7 months and only on this last month i finally started getting some good consistent jump serves, now it actually feels much easier than before which felt impossible. A good tip i can give is, if you play/train with kneepads, don't use them for a couple trainings and you could actually feel much lighter and jump better.

    I know this video is old and that not many people will see this, but I took the advice and now I can consistently perform a solid jump serve, I've gotten a lot better, for the record I use the right hand approach and toss the ball a little before I start my run-up so I can adjust myself.

I really would like to have a workout routine because it makes it really hard for me to do certain serves or even just bumping when I don't have muscular/bigger arms like some other girl volleyball players . Maybe you could even do a tutorial for strong serves too.💪🏼

    I know it’s hard to jump serve, and for the past ten minutes I’ve been trying to at least make one jump serve across my yard, but after twenty failed attempts I finally looked it up. The only ones I actually get across the yard go to the side and one I didn’t even make contact with, just dropped next to my feet after I tried to hit it 😪

      Either what Angelica over me said OR you are "stomping" your foot onto the floor too strong. That can shake your body and produce back pain. Next time, try checking how your body feels the moment your "Jumping foot" hits the ground. If it feels uncomfortable, try getting a mor fluent movement into your run up and bend your knees a bit more, which should get some weight out of your back

    Main ideas
    1. Toss the ball high enough and forward enough for you to hit it properly.
    2. Bring arms down then jump as soon as you’re about to hit it.
    3. Open up to the ball to drive more power into it

But if I were to spike a serve, I needed to jump and it’s worked out 50-50. Right now I’m learning to do jump serve and I’ve always been doing high tosses with gives me no progress. When I played volleyball for my middle school, we had to do a formation where every time we jump, we slide to our right and jump again as if we are blocking the spike. This really doesn't give a lot of advantage, but it does help you get a better reach when jumping.

    Coach is nailing every step on his first try because he has experience. Even if it seems easy like the toss and the run up, it’s not. The toss needs to be at a specifically high point and you need to time your jump properly which is NOT easy to do. Plus you need strong arms for strong spikes.
