I think the toss should be up to the individual, but I do see what you're saying regarding avoiding tossing to the left or right. I use BOTH hands to toss for my jump serves. For me, it's bringing up both hands at the same time, then back behind me when I am squatting down to jump. You also avoid tossing to the left or right when using both hands for the toss.
Practice hitting on the ground with a high toss. This forces you to swing faster and more accurately. Try to also focus on having a relaxed arm, the more you try to muscle it and brute force your swing, the less accurate you will be. Keep your eye on the ball too, try to maintain focus on where you’re contacting the ball

Because of this I have a very powerful serve and I actually made the team because of it

I keep finding that I hit the ball to the side to much do I just need to practice more or is there a specific was to fix that
