Klaus is my favorite Christmas movie ever and probably favorite movie ever made. I watch this every Christmas season. Seeing Jesper as a lazy person who eventually falls in love with his job is great character development. I also love how they gave Klaus' origins stories when he becomes Santa. Like how the little boy sees Jesper and Klaus fly on the sleigh after the Krumbs and Ellingboes tried crushing their sleigh, Klaus' laugh, how he got his reindeer, and more. I wish this movie gets recognition. This is an underrated movie. Also, the fact JK Simmons plays Santa Claus again in an action movie.

@ yeah I feel like Elf and home alone are more comedy centric, with the emotional arcs being secondary (but still important to the movies). Klaus feels like a movie of Jaspers’ emotional arc first and has the jokes second, and it feels more emotional to me because of it
Honestly, couldn’t agree more. I feel like I’m just burnt out on watching home alone and elf. But klaus brings back that joy in watching a Christmas movie.
The way I see it, Klaus has the humor of Elf and the heart of It’s A Wonderful Life, two of the most memorable and beloved Christmas films of all time.
The ungodly beautiful animation is certainly a very high point, but I think the soundtrack and vocal performances especially for the younger characters was also amazing, this movie really was a beautiful love letter to animation and storytelling.

It's become a tradition to watch it every Christmas Eve because we all agree its the best. I can't believe it didn't get best animated feature, its visually stunning and incredible to watch.
Klaus is hands down one of the best Christmas movies out there! The animation is stunning, the story is heartfelt, and the characters are so unique. It takes a fresh spin on the origin of Santa Claus, blending humor, warmth, and a beautiful message about kindness and community. Unlike traditional Christmas movies that focus on commercialism or just festive cheer, Klaus digs deeper into the importance of selflessness. It’s like a mix of classic animation charm and modern storytelling. It's definitely a must-watch for the holiday season! 🎄✨
Beautifully said 🥹 I love that they don't just force the Christmas elements down your throat, it's like organically included but the story isn't about that
i freaking adore this movie, i could watch it again and again, its funny, beaiutiful aniamtion, great arcs, amazing characters, fun story and brillaitn soundtrack!
I genuinely agree with you take, In my eyes it is the BEST Modern Christmas movie to have ever come out in my opinion. To those who haven't seen it, you should watch it! It's really good, and hand drawn animated movies such as this need more praise in these times.
100% agreed. The studio was actually going to put out another 2d animated movie called Ember through Netflix but Netflix decided against it and cancelled it...so fucking bullshit. Thankfully the movie is still going forward but they have to shop it around to other studios.
It has been my favorite Christmas movie to watch every year since it released and I always get to show it to someone that has never heard of it every year!
I have so many friends that had never heard of it. Honestly I thought it would be super mainstream but it really isn't, it's surprising how many people have never watched it or heard of it
I heard of it the year it came out because of the 3D lighting technology used to light the 2D characters was pretty revolutionary and really hasn't been seen since.
What I loved about Klaus was the fact that it mainly focused on the development of characters like Jesper or Klaus. Or the development between relationships. It isn’t only focusing on Christmas, it’s focusing on the people, and slowly develops them, not just because of one event but because multiple events.
Exactly that's the beauty. It isn't trying to force down your throat all the elements of christmas. It's just developing a good story and relationships between characters and the elements of christmas slowly get trickled in
"Arthur Christmas" is actually decent, though I like "Klaus" much better. My theory on why high-quality Christmas movies are so hard to come by these days is that our current pop culture has OD'd on nonstop irony. Instead of heart, the best most of them can manage is "fake sincerity." I'm grateful Nostalgia Critic did a video on the nightmarish "Deck the Halls" (Broderick/DeVito), so I will never, never make the mistake of sitting through it in its entirety; for me, that movie, along with "Christmas With the Kranks," represents the very worst of current Hollywood's impulses where holiday movies are concerned. Everything is crass, cheap, and mean-spirited, and if a "sweet moment" is attempted at or near the end, it falls flat because it feels so completely unearned. "Klaus" manages the nearly impossible feat of blending the ironic jokiness now in fashion with genuine heart and sentiment. It makes its viewer care. I agree with every item on your list, and thank you for giving special attention to the score. I have only one issue with that series of clips: the clips from Miracle on 34th Street should have come from the 1940s film rather than the 1990s remake. The 90s remake is okay, and the actors put their hearts into it, but the 40s film is a masterpiece. What I love about Klaus is that every character, with the exception of the two heads of the Krum and Ellingboe families, undergoes redemption of some kind. My favorite Christmas stories have redemption at their root, going all the way back to Dickens' original novella A Christmas Carol and through It's a Wonderful Life and Miracle on 34th Street and the GOOD version of The Grinch (the 1966 Chuck Jones masterpiece). Even my favorite Rankin-Bass Christmas special, Santa Claus is Comin' to Town, features a redemption arc ("Put one foot in front of the other..."). Jesper's redemption is the center of Klaus, but Klaus and Alva are also redeemed (great shout-out to Alva), along with the Krum and Ellingboe children, who start out doing good deeds because they want to stay off the Naughty List but soon find that the bonds of friendship they're forming are a helluva lot more fun than the old hatreds. The heads of the clans make good villains because, in their determination to stay the same and make sure everyone else does as well, they contrast so sharply with the rest of the characters. I just love this story.
Beautifully said 🥹 thanks for the comment! I agree wholeheartedly, Hollywood has somehow completely forgotten how to genuinely put some heart into their Christmas movies and that's clear from what we've gotten recently. Then again I do think it's hard to make a genuinely good Christmas movie that doesn't seem like a copy of something already made. Lets Hope we get some more innovation in the future :)
This is one of the greatest Christmas movies ever! And it’s so under appreciated. I usually hate the whole “liar revealed” story because it’s been done so many times, but this one I didn’t mind at all. Because everything else made up for it.
The one rare upside of having Netflix is that I found this movie out right away back in 2019 and made this movie a must watch whenever December is around the corner

Unlike traditional Christmas movies that focus on commercialism or just festive cheer, Klaus digs deeper into the importance of selflessness. It’s like a mix of classic animation charm and modern storytelling. It's definitely a must-watch for the holiday season! 🎄✨
Beautifully said 🥹 I love that they don't just force the Christmas elements down your throat, it's like organically included but the story isn't about that
Remembering the countless times I tried to hold back tears watching this movie
That was me too...except I stopped holding them back haha
i freaking adore this movie, i could watch it again and again, its funny, beaiutiful aniamtion, great arcs, amazing characters, fun story and brillaitn soundtrack!
It's SO GOOD
@ YES! Someone recognised this movies brilliance!!!
"Invisible" always makes me cry. I love "Klaus" and I think this is one of the best movies I have ever seen in my life. Yeah. No doubt.
Invisible destroys me too trust me
Erm actually I’ve heard about Klaus. I proceeded to watch it and was PEAK!
PEAK PEAK PEAK PEAK PEAK PEAK PEAK!1!1!1!!!!! (unfathomably awesome)
PEAK PEAK PEAK (like pls everyone needs to watch it)
I love people who finally give this movie recognition. It’s my favorite and prob the best
It needs even more
I remember watching this as a kid, it was really wholesome and good
As a kid? How old are you now haha it only came out a few years ago
One of my absolutely favourite Christmas movies! And a prime example that 2D animation still has a place in our hearts.
There are many examples, especially recently, of why 2D deserves WAY more respect and investment. Let's hope we keep getting more 2D movies
@@miguelmunuera2601 Agreed. ^^
0:45 Klaus, I mean its in the title
😂😂
I don’t cry often during movies, but when I watched this for the first time, I cried my eyes out from the ending, I still tear up everytime I try it
It's a gorgeous ending..truly bittersweet
I genuinely agree with you take, In my eyes it is the BEST Modern Christmas movie to have ever come out in my opinion. To those who haven't seen it, you should watch it! It's really good, and hand drawn animated movies such as this need more praise in these times.
100% agreed. The studio was actually going to put out another 2d animated movie called Ember through Netflix but Netflix decided against it and cancelled it...so fucking bullshit. Thankfully the movie is still going forward but they have to shop it around to other studios.
@@miguelmunuera2601 I sure hope it comes to fruition! Here's hoping 🤞
Never heard of this movie, I'm going to watch it with the kids this week! Thanks for the suggestion!
Trust me you'll all love it! :)
@ just started it, the kids are GLUED to the screen
8:29 IM DYING RN😭😭
😂😂😂😂
It has been my favorite Christmas movie to watch every year since it released and I always get to show it to someone that has never heard of it every year!
😍 it still baffles me the amount of ppl that haven't heard of it
FINALLY KLAUS IS GETTING ATTENTION! I have watched this movie 2-3 times some time ago.
RIGHT?! I'm shocked there haven't been more videos on the topic
Thank you sir! For showing one of the best Christmas movies out there
You're welcome :)
Bro, everyone's heard of it. Remember watching it when it released
I don't feel like anyone else used that tech
If you’re reading this, Merry Christmas wherever you are in the world 🎄🫶
🥹 love this comment, Merry Christmas!
It's just developing a good story and relationships between characters and the elements of christmas slowly get trickled in
1:36 the walten files one is… a good remake 😅
Never Heard of it haha what's it about
@ don’t look it up
How many of you left midway through the video to go to Netflix and watch It and absolutely fall in love with it i sure did ❤
That was exactly what I wanted 🥹 so glad you loved it!!
Yeah I totally get what you mean!
6:04 or they're there solely for the purpose of being an independent woman so the filmmakers can prove that they're not sexist.
You referring to Klaus??
@@miguelmunuera2601 no
The one rare upside of having Netflix is that I found this movie out right away back in 2019 and made this movie a must watch whenever December is around the corner
A rare Netflix W
I am SO GLAD that someone recognizes this movie!! I absolutely love Klaus!
🥹🔥
Did you know that the voice actor of Jesper also acted in the Spider-Man Animation in 2022
Oh he was spot!! I had no idea
I tear up everytime I see that scene where Jesper and Klaus are making the boatsled it's so beautiful the music the animation its perfect I love this movie so much everyone should see it ❤
Me too...and then when Margu gets the present..omg
I am so glad you talked about this man, this movie is underrated as heck
SO underrated
I agree that Klaus is a masterpiece and I always try to see it every Christmas with my family for two years so far (and Arthur Christmas). I haven't watched That Christmas 2024 yet, but I hear people like that film too
And also Rise of the Guardians, an underrated masterpiece that DreamWorks ever did.
@RyanMcKennaGosling Not entirely a Christmas movie, it is more of a cumulation of holidays into a film, but I do agree that it's great
So many people have mentioned Arthur Christmas, I guess I really need to check it out this Christmas!
No, I’ve definitely heard of it. Saw the trailer one Christmas and I wanted to watch it. I always watch it each Christmas now, always thought it was so high quality and amazing 😊
Christmas Classic, that's awesome :)
It is one of my favorite Christmas movies. It is one of the few movies that makes me cry everytime.
Same
Klaus deserves more love maybe even a sequel its genuinely good
Nah honestly it ended perfectly
