  • In this video I build my Russian Tortoise Diego a new home. Diego’s new home is the proper tortoise enclosure, they should never be in a tank. Diego is beginning to eat good and is enjoying his new home living the life he deserves 🐢🥬.

    I give my tortoises strawberrys every once in a while, and they still eat their kale and lettuce and other greens. I think the baby is just a picky little guy, lol

    You can get a swiveling light stand that will be much more convenient than what came with the cage stock. It allows you to open up the cage top more.

    Good you're moving up, but even that new enclosure is close to being too small.
    That last one was terribly small. Only good for hatchling to yearling of that species.

    I’ve definitely considered getting one of these setups. They look great! But, if you do a Google search for ‘what size terrarium should I get a Russian tortoise, most answers recommend at least a 40 gallon tank…Is this that size?
    As we know, many things are made in China for us consumers. I did a Google search for ‘40 gallon terrariums’ and the results are much less expensive (from their own websites) than what’s marketed on popular State side sources…

    • @delta_bass_catching
      @delta_bass_catching  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s a 39.4 x 24 x 12.4 so it’s around the 40 gallon range. I don’t recommend buying a glass tank for a tortoise because they scrape the glass since they can see outside the tank. I bought this setup off Amazon for about 100$. This habit is a good start but you may have to get something bigger so they have more space to move around👍

    Hey what do you use for substrate?

    • @delta_bass_catching
      @delta_bass_catching  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I use coconut husk chips, but I’m moving to a mix of sand and organic soil substrate which you can make yourself. This helps them be able to burrow easier.

    Hi there. Im considering getting a Russian. Is Diego an import or captive bred in US? If captive, do you recommend a breeder?

    • @delta_bass_catching
      @delta_bass_catching  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi thanks for commenting, I got Diego from Petsmart. I heard they used to sell wild caught tortoises but I think they are all captive bred now. Getting one from a good breeder would be the best choice👍

    Turtles need a habitat much bigger and should stay outside. Its just like a human in a small prison cell coming from a very small cell. Put aat least some sand and small rocks inside.
