Thanks, yeah I've had success with it in the past. As you can tell from the video, I have a feeling it may still need it even with the massive coolers.
Love my 3d printer for these sorts of things, crazy how you can even get cad files for this car and print spares. Seen others use 3d printed trumpets before and they've worked great
Amazing build. You can sort the headlights on these relatively easily. The retrofit source sell RHD projectors that will suit and should be straight fit 👍🏻
Couple of questions.... 1. Have you thought about monitoring each cylinder AFR/EGT and tuning the inlet lengths to suit? 2. Also with the cooling, if the radiator temps are good and stable, have you considered using laminova oil coolers, might help save you drilling holes in the front bumper?
Hi Tim, I was never looking for power with this car. In fact I was fine if it was a few horses down on a standard E92M3 as I don't want it to be too powerful for the chassis (which it probably already is). I just felt like it was unecessary to lose that much power, and Gareth had a plan. I have indeed considered a laminova oil cooler as the water cooling is so capable, and it would help bring the car up to temp quicker as well. If I was starting from scratch it would definitely be part of the plan.
Have you looked at the high pressure and low pressure areas to make sure that you get high volumes of air flow? I'm not sure about the E30 M3, but my E30 325iS had OEM aero to help duct air thru the radiator. It runs from the bottom edge of the front valance to right past the core support and even up to the lower front edge of each wheel well.
It does, but as discussed in previous episodes it's heavily modified & lifted into the car body. It's never going to be as good as modern suspension, but hopefully we've made it as good as it can be. If it's total crap we'll narrow and E92M3 rear axle.
Love it!! It's the perfect //M from my point of view! For security reasons, why not for a proper alarm system, and have it all functioning from a separate 12v battery that is charged from the Alternator, but can only be used by the alarm? Also... YOU NEED TO ADJUST THOSE HEADLIGHTS lol :D
With regard to lighting: One thing I got nailed on my E30 M3 was upgrading to a ton of headlight power, let me know if this is still an issue as I would be happy to give feedback on how I resolved this.
Looks and sounds great. Going to be a good selection of old BMW (inc couple E30M3) at Mallory on 24th if you can make it? 🙂 Can I ask where the door cards came from? Mark
Ive been battling oil temp issues on my e30 / s50b32. Even running a massive earls oil cooler / AN 10 lines and bypassed internal oil filter housing thermostat (which only pushes about 30% oil in standard form) and just running a 0-100% external mocal and just getting air into the e30 cooling section is quite hard. You need to bucket the entire thing .. and gap needs to be removed just to get the air moving through. At worst .. building a vanturi system is my next job. Also another hint is a split brake cooler duct pipeing some air into the cooler area. Again it needs to be bucketed to force the air through the coolers. big engine e30lyfe :/
Love the car but the exhaust tips are too short. Watch a 80's DTM film. Plus the e30 came with opening rear quarter glass. You should definitely fit a pair of those. Headlights are an easy fix with an upgrade to HID's. I would also look at electric air-conditioning like the R35 powered 86 in Oz. Check the windscreen rubber seal as this is where a lot of leaks emanate from on a 30.
Thanks man.. We're not trying to make it a DTM lookalike. It's so far from what they actually were. I'm actually not a fan of the original E30 DTM exhausts. so as with lots of other stuff it's 'inspired by' with my own twist.. I'm liking the electric air conditioning idea! & I'll check out the seal & lights. Cheers!
I been thinking about this for years now.. This is the perfect bulid.. How much.. I got the E30.. In the garage.. Il get the E92 m3.. Will u guys take on the build..?? 🤔
Thanks very much! This build is one of the most comprehensive I've done. I'm sure Craig could fit an S65 into an E30 again for you. But to actually make it like this is two years of work & a 6 figure sum.
Phil, do you run plumbed in extinguishers (4 litre ect) in any of the driftworks BDC cars? Thinking about investing, but going to MSA regs with my builds so not sure about other disciplines. The corner weighting is pretty even now too. Wouldn't mind borrowing a few hours on them myself haha E30 looks bad AF now. Semi trailing arm FTW!
I do in the 86, more recent rule books don't require it for what we do. To be honest, any time I've ever seen a plumbed in kit used, it's always weak as it's spread out over multiple nozzles, and often just dumping in the wrong place. You're much better off manually aiming with a handheld, but obviously, if rulebooks require them, then Lifeline do some great kits.
have you thought about putting the oil coolers, behind the B pillar in the cockpit, and having ducting on the window direct to the coolers. then you also reduce heat transfer to the Radiator? then you could also run a serge tank, and get a 3 stage dry sump ? Watch this video from 7:42 th-cam.com/video/GdyQUuBljng/w-d-xo.html
I've changed them a little, I think it's 10kg front and 9kg rear at the moment. The rear was a softer rate in some of this video, I changed the springs about three weeks ago, and haven't tested it on track yet.
No, we're not that sophisticated / knowledgeable. I just choose a starting spring rate based on my knowledge of similar car / engine weight / front rear bias and how I want it to drive. Then I drive it and see how it feels & adjust.
I want to be Phil Morrison when I grow up.
I've been waiting to go for a shit for ages just to watch this video. 3 months or so of holding it in. Glad I can sit down and watch the vid
How to build an e30... do this! This thing is so good
My absolute favourite of all time!!!!
I absolutly love this E30, I saw it at Coventry motorfest this summer and it features in my vlog next week.
I'm with you on the hearing situation , I'm not even 40 yet and plagued by tinnitus most days... 😕
Good to see “Bill” giving it a good testing around the estate. Love the car and the uploads 👍🏼
Interesting to see such a massive difference with the longer trumpets. Sound epic aswell
This is how you Mod an E30 M3!!!! Incredible build guys!
Amazing looking car - can't wait to see it lapping the Nurburgring
My favourite of all your cars superb well done everyone involved
Cool video, I was impressed by the 3D printed velocity stacks, really interesting stuff.
Perfect job on this, its awesome. Colour is perfect too.
That e30 is the bollocks!
We found boxing in coolers so air is forced through them helps massively !
Thanks, yeah I've had success with it in the past. As you can tell from the video, I have a feeling it may still need it even with the massive coolers.
Absolutely love this car ! Well done Phil 👍🏻
Thanks!

Song from outsiders in the ending credits was nice, great vid guys.
What a pleasure to watch.. such a amazing build
Amazing build. You can sort the headlights on these relatively easily. The retrofit source sell RHD projectors that will suit and should be straight fit 👍🏻
Thanks, yeah it's just one of those things that's been on the list, but is always lower priority. I'll get it sorted now the winter nights are here!
That’s a sick ride so on point 😍😎👊🏽
Thanks 👍
best e30 m3 ive seen
Thanks.

This puts such a smile on my face, what thing :D
Always been a bit 50/50 on V8s, but this sounds mental and I love it 😂
is it my imagination or does Phil kinda look like a younger Freiburger with a british accent?
I do like wearing shorts & flip flops.
Rumbled!
I need to see that E30
that m3 is soo nice fave body model.
21:58 God dam it that was funny!

We have a kit for this if necessary. We still have a lot of work to do with the underside & front arch liners & brake ducts.
Im so excited about this
Bloody love it!!
Does the rear end still have trailing arms? If so, how much of a disadvantage do you think it is on track?
It does, but as discussed in previous episodes it's heavily modified & lifted into the car body. It's never going to be as good as modern suspension, but hopefully we've made it as good as it can be. If it's total crap we'll narrow and E92M3 rear axle.
Can we please have a video of Phil Morrison talking about every car he has owned and what modifications were done to it please!!
It's one we've discussed for a long time. It might be a bit long though.

The S65 is the last true Motorsport derived engine produced by the ///M division!
Word! The turbo stuff that just sounds like an aeroplane toilet flushing does nothing for me.
I would have to make the headlamps better for illumination. It would bug the hell out of me not being able to see
Yeah it's on the list. Pretty terrifying :D

Is that a track day? What's Mallory like on noise now?
Yes, track day. I’m told it’s 105 but quick search suggests 103.

big engine e30lyfe :/
Yeah I fully expect to still have issues even with these gigantic coolers. I'll be doing my best to not cut horrible holes in the bumper.
@@driftworks yeah mate, I agree.. do everything else but that! :) love the car btw .. its very very well done.
Thanks! It's only well done if it works (yet to be confirmed haha )

Do you run lightened valve caps for the wheels?

Great build! I'm late to the party :) What wheels are those?
They're Work MCO Racing.
E30 M3 is my dream car, any chance of a DW Forza Horizon 4 pack?

No, can't say I have.
What was the song at the end?
May I know how much do u pay on this magnificent project?
You can't afford it.
Please tell me what spring rates are you running front and rear for this weight car?
I've changed them a little, I think it's 10kg front and 9kg rear at the moment. The rear was a softer rate in some of this video, I changed the springs about three weeks ago, and haven't tested it on track yet.
@@driftworks thank you. Did you calculate the spring rate from this corner weight in the video? Is there a certain ratio you use?

@@driftworks thanks for taking the time to answer your comments! Thumbs up.
#driftworks what door cards are they?
I'm not sure unfortunately, they came with the project when I took it on.
Where is there no picture just sound?
It seems to be working fine to me. Where are you viewing from and on what device?
Driftworks its working now lol must been a bad signal or problem my end
Can someone tell me what wheels those are
They are Work MCO. I think we only have a few left available as they're being discontinued. A real shame as they're one of our favourite 1pc wheels!
Awe man that sucks.. thank you for the e30 videos, love the build one of my favorites!! Props🤟🏼
i want to be phils step son
❤❤❤❤❤❤😘😘😘
😎
Can I buy it 😍😍😍
Haha no.
I need now this car 😍 trade for a imola red e46 m3? 😂😂😂
Peleninum haha
E30 rulz
That would be epic at the ring! Shame it’s a drift car 🤦♂️
It's not a drift car. It's built for trackdays & the Nurburgring.
