i really love how phil has made such a big company from driftworks and obviously has made alot of money but just uses it for such cool builds and projects and is still hands on and importantly humble
Inspiring stuff. So many expensive ideas running through my head for a dedicated track car build now. These builds episodes are great, love how detailed and nerdy you get with them.
Here's me laying on my back on the drive under my E30 V8 project, nothing this mental but hope to see this in person next year 😎 some awesome fabrication skills. BTW Adem is the man, some very tidy wiring and I got some other parts for my build from them too. Keep updating us 💪
I feel like this is going to be an awesome build. Can't wait to see what else you guys do with it. I really enjoy seeing your builds. There inspiring and very entertaining.
Subframe locking collars instead of bushes is a nice touch. Wish i thought of that one! What brakes is it going to be running? Hope it gets lots of kevlar things too
Firstly, great video! Love E30s and love all things suspension, which lends nicely to my next point. Yes the position of the front lower tie bar does limit the steering range, but moving it further inboard puts a larger bending moment on the control arm. You wouldn’t want it on a tarmac rally car!
Thanks. The arm has been reinforced to offset the change in leverage stress under braking. I am keeping an eye on it though. I'd like to have some completely new custom lower arms CNC'd but it's quite a big price tag.
Just finished the all the E30 M3 build series to date and boy does it sound good! Sounds like you’re all over it. Yes CNC custom solution would hurt the pocket! Like you say, if you’re keeping an eye on it and you’ve already knocked over a few track days, it must be doing ok.
Awesome looking project, will be great to see some grip stuff happening. Engine and gearbox wouldn't be my first choice but I can't fault the reasoning and the quality of work is looking really good.
Now you are talking! Mint build, keen to see more updates. Have you considered the increased load on the tension rod after moving the pickup point further inwards. Have you seen the people offering Group A rear beam kits? They give you the full camber / toe / roll centre adjustment that the 2nd gen DTM cars had.
Yeah, they are really nice bit's of kit, but I think they are around £5k and are for centrelocks IIRC. I'll see how we get on with this setup, and if it's not good enough we'll fabricate something ourselves.
The height adjustment on the rear subframe is a great idea. To be honest the whole car sound like it's been well thought out and engineered. Looking forward to seeing further updates. Any chance of knowing where the knife blades for the arbs where from? It's something I've always thought about doing.
Thanks. When we came up with the design it saved the beam axle, as they just don't work at the ride height I want to run without something this serious. The ARB's were from a company called BMRR we found on FB. It's a kit you have to make yourself which was quite complicated to get right with a front rear bias in stiffness. Again all the calculations will hopefully add up, but it'll be a case of finding out during testing.
Love it! But I'm biased owning e30's. You've done a damn sight more to it than I'v done to mine in the last 2 years. If you need a hand de-greening give us a shout.
Thanks man! As much as it pains me financially, I'm thinking about forking out for the dipping process on this one to have the electro coating as well, so the insides of everything are coated too.
Every job is different buddy so highly understandable, just ask them to make sure they get everything out of that cage! otherwise all that safety will be in vain.
Great video Driftworks. Really excited about this E30. I love the S65 engine for its sound (especially with M performance exhaust & carbon airbox combo) and its 'lack' of torque (for traction) and I always wanted to put it into a lightweight RWD car like a BRZ or the latest MX5 someday. Some questions: 1. How many miles has the engine covered? 2. Has the fuel tank been enlarged? 3. Do you need to look into rod bearings & throttle actuators with this engine?
The engine has 18,000 miles I think. The fuel tank is 80 litres + a swirl pot, so will be good for a few laps of the Ring. I've replaced the bearings with the correctly sized BEBearings and fitted ARP rod bolts. Throttle actuators have been checked.
DAMN!! not all of us can just grab a car, we gotta make due with what we got. Not trying to make a track car, just a clean daily...thanks for the burn tho :(
Thanks Dave, yeah I'm going to try to find some decent original rear lights. I've just sourced some new old stock front indicators, so it's coming together now.
I know I'm quite late to the party but I'm planning on building one of these myself. Could you tell me a little more about the front subframe? I can see it has been customized. Are the control arms custom as well? Did you start with the E30 front subframe and work from there?
Great video guys, as always. Love your content and the way you describe everything, just how I like it (especially Phils explanations). Ive been asking myself how to get the rear e30/e36compact axle geometry where i want it. I dig the subframe adjustable "bushings", very nice and clever work(engineering). Cheers lads and keep up the great work. If you have any tips for the geometry that you are willing to share, please do :) Thank you for you effort and work, its very inspiring for me.
I want her to be a driftcar, atleast thats what im hoping for. She is a 318Ti and she going through changes atm. But id like to keep her streetlegal, just so i can drive her to the track, drift her there and then hopefully go home with her in one piece hah.
It all depends how low you want to go. With a 318 you don't want too much rear grip so it's not too much of a problem to have slightly compromised alignment. Just see how you get on first :).
I had a few questions about the e30 for my own build. So I'll start off by saying I'm more of a grass roots guy diy kinda bit off a little more then I can chew but the build is coming along. My questions have to do with staying 4 lug at this point is it dangerous to drift with power levels at 500ish hp and do you know of any diy rear brake up grades. The front is already running rx7 4 pots
probably some purist fool, just ignore them, they are used to it. im about to restore one to semi race spec, need a block and front wings, got any spares? Thanks for the vids
The guy I sold it to took it there and broke it I think. I thought about trying to buy it back, but it was kind of wrecked so I don't think I'd ever feel the same about it, after the months and months of my life that I put into the build.
Haha thanks man. I have accepted my tendency to get carried away with most things in life. It does make actually finishing stuff really difficult though. Hence why this has taken so long to get to this stage.
Running first, then being an idiot and not going to any physio. Then lesser re-tears exercising or pushing a car one time. Do physio when old and injured kids!
No thanks Rob. It wouldn't interest me if it wasn't an M3. I'll just continue to do what I want with my own car, and ignore the boring anoraks thanks :)
I've watched all of the 964 videos, so it's now onto the E30 build 👌
That man was correct - LHD better for the majority of clockwise circuits 👍
i really love how phil has made such a big company from driftworks and obviously has made alot of money but just uses it for such cool builds and projects and is still hands on and importantly humble
Thanks Adam, it doesn't matter how well or how bad I do in life, I'll always waste most of my money on dumb cars :D
Inspiring stuff. So many expensive ideas running through my head for a dedicated track car build now. These builds episodes are great, love how detailed and nerdy you get with them.
Thanks Joseph :)
That's gonna be SO much fun. Very well thought out. Good call on the DCT box too, it's a proper bit of kit for a non-skid car.
Thanks man. Yeah it should be absolutely ridiculous. I just hope it's not a pig to drive. I've been there before :D
Less of Stark who doesn't seem to have a clue and more pieces by your fabricator- really interesting. Brilliant work.
Thanks man!
Don't ever worry about ruining cars, you guys produce epic cars. Love to see my e30 up to that spec some day!
Thanks man! We do our best!
Here's me laying on my back on the drive under my E30 V8 project, nothing this mental but hope to see this in person next year 😎 some awesome fabrication skills.
BTW Adem is the man, some very tidy wiring and I got some other parts for my build from them too.
Keep updating us 💪
Thanks man! Will do!
Lol a cheaper way of doing trackdays...... crazy to see how far this has come over the years
Oh, yes. Brilliant looking build, would look amazing in orange with the same designing as the r32
Currently I'm struggling to think of it in any colour other than black, but we'll see :)
im going to watch all these in a row. so sick
Enjoy 👍
I feel like this is going to be an awesome build. Can't wait to see what else you guys do with it. I really enjoy seeing your builds. There inspiring and very entertaining.
Thanks man! I got really carried away with this build, but it's not the first time :D
This is the stuff! Thisis the content car nerds are looking for.
Glad you enjoyed Joe, we'll hopefully have a part 2 before the end of the year!
Subframe locking collars instead of bushes is a nice touch. Wish i thought of that one!
What brakes is it going to be running? Hope it gets lots of kevlar things too
Thanks. It's on AP's at the front, and was standard at the back, but I think I'll be upgrading them.
Firstly, great video! Love E30s and love all things suspension, which lends nicely to my next point. Yes the position of the front lower tie bar does limit the steering range, but moving it further inboard puts a larger bending moment on the control arm. You wouldn’t want it on a tarmac rally car!

man this car looks like it will be really fast and fun. excited to see it moving
Yeah I certainly hope so! I can't wait for the first drive!
Driftworks 👌👌🤘🤘
Awesome looking project, will be great to see some grip stuff happening. Engine and gearbox wouldn't be my first choice but I can't fault the reasoning and the quality of work is looking really good.
Thanks man!
Best build going
Thanks man! It's not there yet, but we're finally making some real progress.
Now you are talking! Mint build, keen to see more updates. Have you considered the increased load on the tension rod after moving the pickup point further inwards.

Come back to watch this series after seeing the recent walkaround and track day videos of this car .
👍
my dream setup ) good solution for rear coilovers in the stretcher!
Thanks Pavel!
extreeeeeeeeeeeemely interesting, love that you build a trackcar!
This build is awesome!
Thanks! :)
Really interested in the rear adjustment as I'm needing to find something for my e36 compact. Looking forward to following this build
Cool, the eccentric adjustment kit is just a generic kit you can find on Ebay. It does require some fabrication and welding skills to fit though.
Driftworks I have been looking at that but it's something I'd need to get done thanks for reply
Your intros just keep getting better
Thanks. I guess we need to add an E30M3 now :D
Well, you'll have until the end of the year (hopefully) to include it. hehe
Haha yep, all being well!
my love, Hey guys love From Bruneian.
Love it! But I'm biased owning e30's.
You've done a damn sight more to it than I'v done to mine in the last 2 years.
If you need a hand de-greening give us a shout.

I love you guys! Can we get a build thread on the forums too?
Yeah we'll get round to that asap. We've taken a few photo's along the way.
Love this car allready
Thanks Jonas
That is going to be fucking mega! Keep up the great videos lads 🤙
Thanks man!
Need more content of this build
We'll do our best to keep you all up to date.
Go on then if not green what colour are you thinking? Midnight purple maybe?
Black most likely.

Keep up the good work! Love the vids. Wonder what Phil would envision for a 300zx vert???
Well; It's got no roof so I'd envisage driving it to a scrapyard. Haha, thanks man!
Hahahahahaha
DAMN!! not all of us can just grab a car, we gotta make due with what we got. Not trying to make a track car, just a clean daily...thanks for the burn tho :(
Amazing work, Alcon brakes are the best in the world in my eyes. will you changing the rear lights back to originals ?
cheers
dave
Thanks Dave, yeah I'm going to try to find some decent original rear lights. I've just sourced some new old stock front indicators, so it's coming together now.

It's all custom, but yes it started life as an E30 front subframe.
Really really looking forward to this build...are the lower arms and control arms customed by DW?
They are a DTM part that we've modified.
Great video guys, as always. Love your content and the way you describe everything, just how I like it (especially Phils explanations). Thanks Mario. Really appreciate your comments.. What are you going to be doing with the car? As geometry changes a lot between drift and track / road.
I want her to be a driftcar, atleast thats what im hoping for. She is a 318Ti and she going through changes atm. But id like to keep her streetlegal, just so i can drive her to the track, drift her there and then hopefully go home with her in one piece hah.

since you talked about the weight distribution wouldnt be a rear mount radiator a choice to help out?
It was a consideration, but at real speed it’s very difficult to get the airflow right on a rear rad setup.
oo okay so that explains it
keep it green
No :D
Finally, a dct...! U need a dct cooler ( aftermarket ones). Get a power rack
We've got the DCT cooler sorted. I'm going to try the non power rack first. We'll see how strong it makes me :D
next time an 190e with an M156 or M104?? would love it!
haha maybe!
I had a few questions about the e30 for my own build. So I'll start off by saying I'm more of a grass roots guy diy kinda bit off a little more then I can chew but the build is coming along. Hi Derek, 4 bolt is fine, and don't worry too much about rear brakes for now. See how it drives first.
Yaaaaay buuuuuiiiiiiiilldsssssssss!
Glad you approve! :D
LOVE IT !!!!!!!
Thanks man!
Looking forward to see it on track! It will be definately tail happy, so DriftWorks will be still Drift not RacingWorks :)
Hopefully not too tail happy, but sometimes 'accidental' skids happen eh! :D
I bet Phil will smash it real hard ;) keep recording
Nottingham ambulance service drift van in background....
Diy on those subframe risers please!!!!!
It's quite a lot of work to be honest. Most of the fabrication needs doing to the chassis which is why we took the floor out.
That makes sense. Maybe on the next video you could go just a little more in depth on what you did? Either way I love the idea!!!
We've got our first thumbs down. Come on own up! Haha :D
Someone doesn't like grip cars
some purist wanker, just ignore them, they are used to it....
probably some purist fool, just ignore them, they are used to it. im about to restore one to semi race spec, need a block and front wings, got any spares? Thanks for the vids
Awesome! We don't have any spares at the moment I'm afraid, as the car is being built one piece at a time.
How about supercharger on this? would go along well with the linear power in mind of a track car...?
Forced induction on a track car is a bit of a no no for me. It's going to be 1100kg and 450hp, so it will probably have way to much power as it is.
Probably yeah. And I understand the NA life, as V8 normally gives a lot of horsepower with few mods. Also sounds sick with cams and a proper exhaust.
QUESTION!
what happened with e46 v10?
It's rotting at the Nurburgring outside Schirmers last time I saw it. It made me very sad!
Awwwww... that sad!... I love that car!!!
So what happens to it?
Crashed? Broken?
The guy I sold it to took it there and broke it I think. I thought about trying to buy it back, but it was kind of wrecked so I don't think I'd ever feel the same about it, after the months and months of my life that I put into the build.
Love it
Did you say Ergen Motorsport are doing some work on the project ?
Yeah, Adem actually popped into Driftworks today to see the project.
Awesome build. Who's painting the car? Tag the company. I need a paint job for my E30
Thanks. Check out TJRbodyworxbham on IG.
I have spunked a fair few £'s in my lifetime modding cars, but you sir Mr Morrison.. I doff my imaginary bowler hat in your general direction! 🤑🤑🤑
Haha thanks man. I have accepted my tendency to get carried away with most things in life. It does make actually finishing stuff really difficult though. Hence why this has taken so long to get to this stage.
Awesome
Thanks! :)
Yes yes yes yessssssss 😍
Fucking sick build. So jealous.
Thanks Dan!
Waiting for updates.
And me.. We'll do something in Jan. Promise :)
Sooo its january now. Maybe you guys finished the build in 4 days? :D
Haha, not so much :D
Do you start working on these builds again because it buggers up Al's excellent intro graphics?
Yes! Sole reason!
How did phil tear his calf muscle 4 times ?
Running first, then being an idiot and not going to any physio. Then lesser re-tears exercising or pushing a car one time. Do physio when old and injured kids!
👍🏻
newer bmw has 215 diff... thats most you can get...
Bloody hell that new intro is a bit posh
You'll run on 18s rims anyways lol
They are 17". Should be perfect I think.
Hi Driftworks *waving like a moron a.k.a. myself*
Hiiiiiiii !!
Оператору надо поучится камеру держать. Только и за этого не хочется смотреть.
This is a very old video. It's a lot better in most recent videos.
@@driftworks всё отлично спс ))
Ruined! ;)
Ruined properly :D
What a waste of an M car..stop fucking up M series and just pick up a base 325 e30.. If your gonna fucking change everything anyway..
No thanks Rob. It wouldn't interest me if it wasn't an M3. I'll just continue to do what I want with my own car, and ignore the boring anoraks thanks :)
I would love to know what's going on with the ambulance next to it....
It's being converted onto a Landrover chassis.
