We have come back against Barca a few times late on in the game because they tire because of the pressing they do. But ONE DAY, we will get our revenge on Barcelona and we can all laugh as Messi and Fabregas have a little cry together after being humiliated by us.
This was the second time in a few years that Barcelona had been helped by Referee's who aren't able to use common sense and proper judgement in their decision making. The first was when Lehman was red carded in the opening 20 minutes of the Champions League Final. Yes, it was a goal scoring opportunity, but a goal keeper must attempt to go for the ball. A penalty is an incredible advantage to a team, a red card + a penalty decides the match. Arsenal fought bravely to end it at 2-1 and nearly come out triumphant as they were leading 1-0 until the 76th minute. Had they not been a man down for so much of the game, they wouldn't have been as exposed in certain areas and exhausted. This wasn't in the final, but much worse in some respects because there was absolutely no justification. You'll be hard pressed to find any games where strikers finish their attacking move and shoot despite a whistle being blown. Especially in a stadium environment during the Champions League. A strikers first instincts are not to listen or watch for what the officials are doing, they are 100% focused on their movement, shot, the defenders, and the goalkeeper. at 2-3 on aggregate the game was in Arsenals favour and all to play for. UEFA have a track record of assisting Barcelona in the Champions League, just watch the Chelsea-Barcelona semi final match that had 5 clear penalties completely ignored by the officials.
Puck the 2006 final, Kerr deserved the red. He literally grabbed his foot go look at the foul again. Second, it wasn’t 5 it was 3 penalties that Barcelona caused, and there were some bad calls against Barcelona too. and the red against persie, he got lucky he didn’t get a red hitting Dani Alves in the face. But he only got a yellow. Then with the second hello, he deserved it for wasting time by kicking the ball out. He most definitely heard the whistle. Just look at how he turns around so calmly as if he knew that the shot was meaningless. The shot was terrible and way off target, and striker who misses an open shot that badly at that stage of the tournament will have a reaction of disbelief that they missed that badly. Persie knew the shot was pointless because whistle already had been blown hence his no reaction turn.
a lot of people think that this was because of barcelona being lucky, but it wasn't. the referee was being stupid and van persie just wasn't expecting it. in the match he made a gesture meaning that the whole 90,000 or so fans were saying "don't give him a red card!" and even some of the barcelona players were saying that too. yes, we didn't have any shots on target, but later in the match van persie was pretty much our only hope if we even had a chance of winning the round.

Not worst decision but best favoured decision for FC Barcelona. FC Barcelona won 2 Champions League by paying referees in 2009 & 2011, they even paid well in 2010 but Mourinho parked the bus. In 2011 Pepe got red card when he attempted the ball & didn't even collide with Dani Alves.

@dungaaaa I am a Juve fan, but when Inter was playing agianst the cheats, I was supporting Inter with the bottom of my heart. I hate Barca more than any other team. They are a disgrace to the word 'fair play'
@ProudAI in kompany's case, i think it was correct, because players who tackle like him gain an unfair advantage. of course there was not contact - no player in their right mind would commit to a challenge if someone tackles like that. he had a decision to make: dont challenge and let kompany win the ball (by intimidation, not skill), or challenge and probably get hurt. i don't like to see players put in that situation but yes, i agree its ridiculous that technology is not used
@BraadDNB But to add to your comment, Even if Van Persie did hear the whistle, how often do players still kick the ball after the ref blows the whistle, and how many times have you seen players get red cards over? So Robin is right it was an injustice.
@AlQassim97 still doesnt justify the fact he got a card for kicking the ball 1second after the whistle which practically means he was already in the motion to strike the ball at the same time as the whistle. anyways he couldnt even hear the whistle, i can barely hear it myself and im not in the game.
Erzik was project manager at UNICEF, as well as vice-president of UEFA executive committee, referee commitee and fair-play commitee (as if one commitee wasn't enough). He worked closely with Platini who, as we know, got suspended for corruption, and Barcelona's president Laporta was a partner for both of them. Laporta soon got his own position at UEFA, along with Gaspart, an historic executive at Barcelona known for his... unorthodox ways, and Villar, the former president of Spain's Federation, another partner of Platini and Laporta, who would eventually be jailed for corruption from a separate case. Laporta supported Platini's plan of getting rid of G14 (14 biggest clubs defence against UEFA, what today is ECA) and Platini appoints Erzik. It's simple, Barcelona made donations to UNICEF from 06/07 until 16/17 in exchange for favours. The furthest they'd get in Champions League, they would share their earnings accordingly. Barcelona wins in 09, 11, 15 and 17. The Stamford Bridge scandal was in 2009, the Van Persie red card in 2011... They win their last one in 2017, conveniently the last year of their partnership with UNICEF, and what happened afterwards? 2018: humiliated by Roma, 2019: humiliated by Liverpool, 2020: humiliated by Bayern, one knock-out stage in three years. If anyone doubts Erzik's dishonesty, let me tell you he was chief referee in 2002 Korea FIFA World Cup. Yeah, I know. How is Uefalona still allowed to play, that I don't know.
@UltimateTeamFan players on every team dive, barca included. its the fault of the governing bodies, but thats a different story. im not sure if there is one player who can honestly say that in all his career, he's never gone down even a little bit easily. as for the 4-0, we're still very much a work in progress and will only be getting better. once the crossing improves we will be right up there
it doesnt matter firstly that it was a self-made goal, it was goal that put us ahead on aggregate, i can see your point that we had 0 shoots on target/goal, but im pretty sure that if robin had been on the pitch (a player that was in amazing form btw) that statistic would be different. robin was our only striker and a fucking brilliant one, if he had been on, there would have been attempts at goal, but also it affects team moral when ur best player goes off, shit decisions like that change games
before this one he had already 2 scenes in which he 100 % should have seen a red card. if anything the red card came way too late justice was well served that night
This interview was one of the funniest thing i've seen for a while in football, he proper weighed in on the ref LoL "he's been bad all evening, he's been a joke and i don't even know why he's here tonight" hahahaha. I wouldn't be surprised if Platini is behind this, he loves screwing the Engish teams at every given opportunity.
Ironically, in the 2nd leg semifinals at camp nou between Barcelona and inter in 2010, bojan Krkic, dribbled past defenders and took the shot at goal despite the whistle, that had gone off due to a Barcelona foul, and their very own player was allowed to shoot despite them making a foul without getting a card..UEFALONA.. AS SIMPLE AS THAT..
The most telling thing was that the goalkeeper was still preparing for the shot after the whistle blew. Ref was an idiot that game, as most refs are when they're reffing a Barcelona game.
RvP is a very good player and the decision was very harsh...didn't deserve a yellow card. Other players got away with far worse actions and didn't even get a card and he gets the second yellow for shooting 1 second after the ref whistled in a stadium with over 90.000 people. Very bad ref decision...
1. They cheat 2. You lose 3. You're not allowed to voice your opinion (or you will be fined+miss matches) Teams WANT to avoid playing FCB NOT just because they are good but to avoid being put in this lose-lose situation.
ur telling me robin van persie, the third best striker in the world would miss that chance that bendther had later in the match if he was in the pitch.

FC Barcelona won 2 Champions League by paying referees in 2009 & 2011, they even paid well in 2010 but Mourinho parked the bus.
In 2011 Pepe got red card when he attempted the ball & didn't even collide with Dani Alves.
Shame the videos audio is a second out
He seems really angry, but for a reason. AND the ref was about 40m behind RVP when the whistle sounded. No way he could have heard.
captain obvious swooped in 13 years ago to give us this cracking update
U KNOW THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH A FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION, WHEN A PLAYER GETS SENT OFF ESSENTIALLY FOR KICKING A BALL!! Its as simple as that ...
Uefalona for a reason.
Now it all becomes clear now
RVP legend
We were robbed. Arsenal were winning on aggregate when it was 11v11.
Shit happens. Let wait for Barca to run out of money for referees. Cheers for you and whatever club you support. As long as it's not Barcelona.
So many questionable decisions concerning Barca during this era
Simple refs been bought
5-Year Period, Real Madrid, Bayern München, Manchester United, Liverpool, AC Milan, Juventus, Internazionale Milano, All have had more successful 5-year spells than Uefalona
UEFA is a joke
Barca is a joke.
Here after Nasri’s comments! Barca probably had ucl refs in their pockets too! United fan!
Barcelona bribes referees, fact
To think that the "greatest team ever" won 2 UCLs by lucky refereeing decisions (v Chelsea in '09 and Arsenal in '11) 😠
Uefalona
@Crazy8838 whats the group called and where can i sign up ;)
@dungaaaa
I am a Juve fan, but when Inter was playing agianst the cheats, I was supporting Inter with the bottom of my heart. I hate Barca more than any other team. They are a disgrace to the word 'fair play'
@ProudAI in kompany's case, i think it was correct, because players who tackle like him gain an unfair advantage. of course there was not contact - no player in their right mind would commit to a challenge if someone tackles like that. he had a decision to make: dont challenge and let kompany win the ball (by intimidation, not skill), or challenge and probably get hurt. i don't like to see players put in that situation
but yes, i agree its ridiculous that technology is not used
RVP had a point about this. As a Spurs fan I enjoyed it, but it was ludicrous.
@BraadDNB But to add to your comment, Even if Van Persie did hear the whistle, how often do players still kick the ball after the ref blows the whistle, and how many times have you seen players get red cards over? So Robin is right it was an injustice.
So is he saying that he can’t hear ANY whistle the ref blows?
The joke is him turning to look at the linseman..... because he heard a whistle
That decision altered Arsenal's course of history
Delighted to see UEFAlona get ripped apart the other night.
@AlQassim97 still doesnt justify the fact he got a card for kicking the ball 1second after the whistle which practically means he was already in the motion to strike the ball at the same time as the whistle. anyways he couldnt even hear the whistle, i can barely hear it myself and im not in the game.
Did he get fined for his comments? Just curious
theres a difference between giving someone a warning booking and a sending off booking.
@UltimateTeamFan players on every team dive, barca included. its the fault of the governing bodies, but thats a different story. im not sure if there is one player who can honestly say that in all his career, he's never gone down even a little bit easily.
as for the 4-0, we're still very much a work in progress and will only be getting better. once the crossing improves we will be right up there
it doesnt matter firstly that it was a self-made goal, it was goal that put us ahead on aggregate, i can see your point that we had 0 shoots on target/goal, but im pretty sure that if robin had been on the pitch (a player that was in amazing form btw) that statistic would be different. robin was our only striker and a fucking brilliant one, if he had been on, there would have been attempts at goal, but also it affects team moral when ur best player goes off, shit decisions like that change games
before this one he had already 2 scenes in which he 100 % should have seen a red card. if anything the red card came way too late
justice was well served that night
Remember Chelsea - Cheatelona, Semifinal 08/09?
So I'm just watching Barca Milan game right now and Alexis Sanchez had totally same situation. No card.
This referee should get banned permanently.
“With 95,000 people jumping up”
Wembley: Am I joke to you (91,000)
Matchfixing at his finest
@sf2explus
what about not giving messi a clear penalty frist half
kind of funny how he was trying to score from that angle with his weaker foot and the fact that every other whistle in that game was heard :/
He was paid. Barcelona should be striped of all titles between now and the 2000s.
The same match where Eric Abidal grabs Van Persie around the throat right in front of the ref and the ref doesnt even show him a yellow. Complete joke
AS SIMPLE AS THAT..
we played the second half of first leg superbly.was looking forward to the same in the 2nd leg but the ref ruined it.i hate refs supporting barca
MVP for Barca; The ref.
The most telling thing was that the goalkeeper was still preparing for the shot after the whistle blew. Ref was an idiot that game, as most refs are when they're reffing a Barcelona game.
OMG i literally came on here to see if anybody had uploaded this. WOW. Persie is kinda right though
RvP is a very good player and the decision was very harsh...didn't deserve a yellow card. Other players got away with far worse actions and didn't even get a card and he gets the second yellow for shooting 1 second after the ref whistled in a stadium with over 90.000 people. Very bad ref decision...
1. They cheat
2. You lose
3. You're not allowed to voice your opinion (or you will be fined+miss matches)
Teams WANT to avoid playing FCB NOT just because they are good but to avoid being put in this lose-lose situation.
ur telling me robin van persie, the third best striker in the world would miss that chance that bendther had later in the match if he was in the pitch.
