Rob Roy On The Danube (TEASER)

I'm excited to be documenting this eccentric little story.
A historic wooden canoe has been restored, and a small team will be paddling it down the Danube River - recreating the original 1866 expedition by John MacGregor.

Two of the ones owned by MacGregor are left. One is the first now at the museum in Falmouth, via the Royal Canoe Club facilitated by member the late Peter Wells. The other we think the 5th, or 7th , a 12 footer ,is in the collection of Mystic Seaport Museum in the states, used for the 1872 Orkneys cruise. It got to the states via Poultney Bigelow to whom it was given by MacGregor's widow in 1920 for the New York Canoe Club. MacGregor had Thames boat builders Searle & Co. build all of them.
