    I grew up in this area, it feels like I've stood where this was painted, it's so familiar. Beautiful country.

    It was cool to hear the owner talk about her Aunt Marge, how her aunt was friends with the artist, and how the artist fell in love with someone from the Ozark. Then to hear it from the appraiser as a history story. It’s like real life met up with what became historical significance. Pretty neat!

    Looks like the artist painted that from a scene found within the 1941 John Wayne movie "Shepherd of the Hills." (set in the Ozarks)

    • @dovbarleib3256
      @dovbarleib3256 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The location for Shepherd of the Hills was actually adjacent to Branson, Missouri. It did not take place in Arkansas, but approx 30 miles north of that border.

    • @rahubba1
      @rahubba1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dovbarleib3256 You are correct with regard to the geographic location of the novel Shepherd of the Hills. It took place within the Missouri Ozarks region, in which Branson falls. Though this particular roadshow takes place in Little Rock, the painting does not specify whether the scene is supposed to be from the Missouri Ozarks or the Arkansas Ozarks. In my original comment, I was speculating with light-hearted cynicism that the artist just used a scene from the 1941 movie to paint the portrait. It's an entertaining movie, that I would recommend, if you enjoy older classics. Cheers!

    These types of pictures by Travis sale regularly at auction houses for $800 to $1,200. Many of the appraisals on the Roadshow are extremely far fetched prices based more on wow factor ratings than true value. I watch for the information not the "values".

    • @ethannaka1822

      Carl S. Really? Where can I buy, how do I find these auction houses?

    • @RLucas3000
      @RLucas3000 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      She did say insurance value which is normally 2 to 5 times auction value, so her action estimate would have been 2k to 5k, and 2k isn’t that far from your 1.2k. Plus this had the original frame, which not all his pictures might have.

    $275 in 1947 is $3,233 in 2019.
    $275 invested in the S&P500 (stocks) would be worth $534,600 in 2019.

      Live Wire I didn’t find it depressing. It was a beautiful story about a generous relative passing on beauty and art to the rest of her family, who also had kind words for them.

  • @Dennis-Hare
    @Dennis-Hare 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The woman who guessed that it was worth $1500. is much closer than the expert. Yes, for insurance purposes, you normally over-inflate the price, but if you go to any good auction, unless it is a definitive Texas painting, you will never achieve the stated price.

    • @Dark0blivion
      @Dark0blivion 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Check out recent auction results for the artist online. $10,000 seems realistic.

    • @Dennis-Hare
      @Dennis-Hare 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi, I concede that there has been some slight upward movement, in some of his results. Unless it is a Texas scene, it may reach into the $2-5,000 range, but certainly not the $15,000 thousand figure mentioned.
      That is the beauty of an auction, anything can happen.
      Thank you.
