A series long overdue on the channel, Top 5 videos allow for the exploration of particular topics throughout the Lore of Warhammer Fantasy. For this first foray on to this particular topic, I thought it'd be best to start off with a big bang with the 5 most powerful spells EVER cast in Warhammer Fantasy!
Note that this list will NOT allow any spells cast by Gods or the Old Ones, as they sort of cheat by being Gods and all. Furthermore the End Times is explicitly banned as it is the mother of all rule breakers and did a bunch of garbage I don't want to unpack within this context. Finally, we WILL be allowing spells that were cast using rituals as the line between the two tends to be rather vague.

Jokes aside, would love to see the top 5 strongest normal spells as in spells that exist within the various lores of magic that any practitioner could in practice, cast.
I would be keen to see top 5 lists for more obscure stuff, like: most cruel races, most misunderstood characters, times the world was saved etc

I kinda like having more lore detail in top 5s, the shorter videos from other creators can sometimes leave you wanting more.
There is no way Deliverance of Itza would be the first, ahead of the spell that banished ALL DAEMONS, raised a continent's worth of dead, and literally moved the continents. Also, I would replace the Sundering with the Dragon Emperor's spell to summon the meteor.
Also, the editing was amazing.
The vortex didnt banished the demons, it only suctioned the magic they needed to manifest. Killing hundreds of great demons directly in an instant seems way more powerfull, and by only one being. I would say moving the entire planet would be first, but it is not clear if the old ones took part, and also the Deliverance of Itza is an iconic piece of lore.
@@detorrV2 Come on dude, it's not about how many people cast it, this isn't a ranking of the most powerful casters. Also sucking most of the world's magic is more impressive. Also I'm sure Lord Kroak's deliverance of Itza is less iconic for people who are not Sotek or Lizardmen fans, at least it is for me.
@@detorrV2 also about the Vortex not banishing the daemon. Look at it this way. If you push someone and they hit they're head to the desk and die, you are still a murdere despite the fact that it was the desk that killed them not (technically) the push. So I'd say the vortex did banish the Daemons. I mean it was the whole purpose of creating it.
@@maidros9856 but it is not the same beating Myke Tyson in a boxing match than sucking the air out of the room he is in. Obviously all this is speculation but the greatest spell of the greatest wizard is not something to discard lightly.
And being iconic i mean in comparison with other slann spells like moving mountains and splitting continents.

Glad to see the poll where 80% or so of fans said they wanted more lore-related content from Sotek having some impact few weeks later… it’s definitely what I liked and wanted the most on Sotek’s channel since I found interest in WH fantasy (by WHTW initially).
and frankly, get more density of content and speak more of it generally is really necessary for WH fantasy… we need more anchors to that universe now more than ever.
Watching the first clips at the start of this video, remembering the first trailers of WH3 last year presenting Katerina and the 4 chaos gods, darn the hype for WH3TW was high at that time !
It feels a bit vanished by now with the désillusions WH3TW proposed to us with his initial release. 💔
A good reason to jump right back into the lore of WH fantasy and make it live longer is definitely necessary, and a good thing to have ofc...
Sotek always gave that lore a special flavour in his videos, and i think we are in real need of good ways to stay immersed in all that until - maybe?!? (crossing fingers) - Immortal Empires save the day for WH3TW.

Was expecting regular tabletop spells like the thirteen spell, knew all of these stories. Stayed anyway, love listening to a good narration, well done.

its been some time where we have had a just pure lore video if we don't count the QnAs so this really feels nice to have a new form of it.
i very much approve you making more long quality videos rather then just making a no effort top 10 type most because i rewatch your videos a lot which is a lot more tempting when they are as high quality as yours usually are.
tho ofc if you do top 10 which could be the very fast not much story just fast list and top 5 being the long once that really needs some extra narration for the epic feeling like this.
btw if i had the money i would pay you a bunch of money just to have you read the Rise of Nagash trilogi
You and Choyer really do a great job at explaining this world and making such a huge universe seem easily digestible and madly enjoyable!
I like more the version of Nagash death from the TK books in which he is killed during the ritual, interrupting it, and explaining why TK undead are different. The spell was incomplete, they revived but Nagash was unable to control them, becoming real undead (with their own soul) instead of the puppets necromancy creates.
The production and voice quality has gone through the roof with these new videos. You have a great knack for these presentations 👍
I adored this video, I never heard the entire story of Nagash's ritual before in one piece so this was greatly appreciated just for that. I run a game(G.U.R.P.S 3rd edition for those interested) for a party playing lizard men after the creation of the great Vortex, and every bit of lore about those old times helps me make a more whole picture of just how utterly devastated the world would be. maybe some smaller videos about the runner ups at some point? or one larger video with them and a few others you think fit? I would kill to know more about Cathay as it comes out and what we already know as well.

4:28 In the novel Blood of Aenarion, the four greater deamons that Aenarion defeated on that fateful day were: Throttle Gurglespew (Great Unclean One), Hargrim Dreadaxe (Bloodthirster), Nikari, and Kairos Fateweaver. Not in that order of course. Maybe Throttle Gurglespew and Hargrim Dreadaxe were in the climatic showdown yet not the leaders of the daemonic armies that tried to stop the creation of The Vortex. I don't know, never read Blood of Aenarion (got this knowledge second hand).
I have read Blood of Aenarion, this is correct. I noticed this in the video but it doesn't matter that much I suppose.
@@ethanlikes64 Sotek seemed to be saying that according to elven WHFB oral tradition it was the daemons he listed. In story oral tradition can be wrong.
But yeah, it doesn't matter much. There are more serious flaws in WHFB continuity. Not sure this possible discrepancy is even a true discrepancy.

I was expecting you to name a top 5 of the actual spells like wind of death , final transmutation or something like purple sun of xerxus or whatever his name is. And not from in game perspective but pure lore wise.

I love the focus on storytelling complete with visuals and music - it would have been so easy to make a BuzzFeed top 5 list but this turned out so much better. Brandan did a great job editing!
It is so much fun to play TW and see evidence of lore from outside the game. For instance, now I know the swampy blood-red river in northern Nehekhara isn't red because of salt but because Nagash himself poisoned it with foul magic!

Hey Loremaster, just a quick idea regarding "bite-sized" stuff. It would be interesting to see short 5-10 minute lore videos regarding the weapons of these Legendary Lords. Maybe how they got it, how it was made, somewhere important it was used. With the IE beta coming up in August seems like the sky would be the limit. Could even include some of the cut scenes from them getting it in-game. Thanks for the great content!
Would be interested to hear your thoughts on which spells in the game are a good representation of the lore, and which have been most 'adjusted' to be game-friendly (presumably Deliverance of Itza would be top of the latter list, it certainly can't wipe out hundreds of thousands of demons in game ;) )

It's from your videos that I enjoy fantasty lore more than say 40k. I'm sure this takes a lot of effort where as youtube perfers 2 minute cat videos. I wouldn't go anywhere else for warhammer fantasty Lore.
