I feel really sorry for the people who are only getting 'fat joke' out of this. What about spectacular cinematography, vfx, acting, directing, lighting, pacing... the list goes on? This is absolutely film riot's best work yet. I just wish there was more of it.
***** imo the writing is pretty much the only problem in every film Ryan has done. This film had fantastic directing, lighting, sets, make-up, Special FX, production values etc. and is undoubtedly their best film to date. But Ryan should really bring in outside writers for future projects, imo it's the one thing holding him back but hey if he loves doing what hes doing that's all that matters.
Wow, quality of scenes keeps getting better. This was really a cinematic experience. FIlmRiot has gone to Hollywood level now :) So happy for you guys.
This is a very well done short science fiction comedy, filled with believable acting, a fantastically-written script, excellent cinematography, and wonderful visual effects. Hats off to Ryan Connolly and his cast/crew!
Beyond terrific to see finished projects from you guys -- the talks and how-to's are invaluable, but seeing it all come together in the form of a project like this...makes the entire incubation period worth it.
Film Riot Did you use the C100 mkii and the 24-105 f/4 L lens? For the little amount of light you had, it preformed very well in the noise department!
Film Riot Guessing by Josh's appearance I'd better not ask for a case of Bammie Wham Bars! ;-) This is one of your most polished well done efforts yet. Too good for TH-cam!
SuperDashRendar would YOU want to look for a 'heavy' person and explain the script to them? You'd basically be telling them "we want to make a joke at your expense and film it for people to laugh at." No director who isn't paying for the role would want to do that. And besides - this allows them to use prosthetics and makeup and Josh probably wanted to do it, haha.
Ryan, you have far out done yourself with this one. The immense amount of detail and development to Ned in a five minute time section is amazing. I loved looking through the scenes and seeing little things. This includes the mannerisms that Josh gave to Ned to make him feel like a real person, (I mean who wouldn't sell a UFO for some cash and some promotion on his/her internet podcast series), along with the camera movements and world building elements like the candy bar wrapper. Despite the fact that it would most likely never happen, I would love to see more in the U.F.Oh Yeah Universe. This is just a step forward to the big times guys, see ya there soon.
I love this short! Amazing. I just ordered and watched all the digital download extras and ordered the poster! What am I nuts? I haven't bought a poster since Farrah Fawcett's in the late 70's! Josh is amazing in this! And boy oh boy... THE MUSIC, THE MUSIC, THE MUSIC!! It is absolutely tremendous! When the newspaper flops down and the music kicks in, it quite literally is "moving" emotionally. It really nails it and sets the perfect tone. For a bunch of stuff not going right, you guys sure did create something pretty damn cool. Well done Ryan, Josh and crew! I friggin love it!
I just wanted to say thanks for making this short. I read some of the negative comments below, and I just have to say that what you made was true to you. I've been watching you guys forever, and mostly just being a lurker and trying to soak up knowledge from the lessons you give. But I gotta say this put a smile on my face because I know your classic favorites and I know if you were a kid again and saw this short it would inspire you to want to make films as well. Keep doing your thing Ryan and crew.
This is amazing! But holy cow THAT WAS JOSH? I knew he was in this but I kept waiting for him to show up... that's some fantastic makeup work and (of course) acting skill! Directing and cinematography were also just top notch. Great job!
First Watch Impression: Wonderful! I see very careful crafting of each element. The set design is superb! Everything from the webcam to the wall melds together to support the story of this single character. Mixing all those "flavours" together so smoothly was brilliant! The makeup!!! That is all. Really though, I was having a hard time recognising Josh in that character. It was a complete and convincing transformation. Even the character's speech was convincing although not without nuances of Josh's intonation and inflections. The Cinematography especially in terms of the lighting! I love to see well lit pieces. From subtle back lighting in the cabin, to harsh fills from outside and the use of contrasting key and fill lights on the character's face, I love that it felt measured and deliberate. All this while still maintaining a creative flair. Creativity tempered with sensibility. The opening scene instantly clicked with me and the closing scene wrapped the perfect bow on the package. (I'd love to try the Bammie Wham Bar - Dat attention to detail tho!). From a narrative standpoint, the story is all there. The visual cues and the dialogue paint a clear picture of who, what, where, when, why, and at the end how. It's difficult to develop a character fully in a feature length production, more so for a 5 minute short, but I didn't feel that any critical aspect of Ned was omitted. Very good story Ryan! Hats off to Josh for good acting as well. It is good to see that the fruits of your labour are indeed ripe and indeed sweet. Well done.
Great job capturing the style and essence of Spielberg right down to the triune triangle transition to the marking on the newspaper, great job and hilarious twist. Can’t believe it took me almost 4 years to watch this
You guys have done a remarkable job on every element of this film! I must say, I find it very interesting how the quality of your cinematography has increased each film you've done, as the expense of the camera used has decreased. LOSSES - Red Epic, PROXiMITY - Canon C500 and U.F.Oh Yeah - Canon C100 Mark II. Just goes to show you don't always need the most expensive gear to pull off a great film.
Oh wow. I never thought of that. That is super interesting and totally not done on purpose. Yeah man, it's all about the guy or gal behind the camera. This time we had Ryan Booth doing our cinematography, which is why it looks so good. He is amazing.
The beginning when everything was vibrating and the picture falling off the cabinet with all the light spewing in reminded me of the beginning of the Polar Express. It was just missing a steam whistle.
Film Riot Yeah it really felt like an old Spielberg film or something from the 70's or 80's. You never put out any bad work. I am filled with happiness to see this and the rest of the new material coming up.
wow, did anybody read the article on the side, "footless in the forest"? Its just the aftermath of Proximity, i didn't even notice it until i went back to read the main article
this movie is nice, it's a mixer between silence of the lamp and planet of the apes, and shows a great message about organic farming and i like the way it handles racisim
I can't believe this was 8 years ago... I came back to check it out after seeing a video titled something like "C100 mark ii in 2023?" So I figured I'd come back to see how it holds up. I know its all about 4k (or higher) these days, but if you're just making short films for TH-cam this camera still looks incredible! This film still looks amazing!
I remembered watching this short film in high school and it taught me one important thing about filmmaking. That you don't need a lot to make a kick ass movie. Also I'm stillll waiting on Intercept
HA!!!! Another awesome project, brought to us, by you guys!!!!! Love it!!! 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿Can’t wait to see the BTS footage and making of!!! Great job and a ending I didn’t see coming!!!! 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
Well done! Throughout the whole thing I was wondering who is the huge dude? Didn't realize who it was until I saw the credits. Great job guys, very funny!
I hope in the near future you guys will be able to do features! If they come even close to the quality of this short, we'd be in for one hell of a ride! Very nice job!
After watching this again, I could totally see the story expand - what happens when he goes inside the UFO and finds aliens? Does he cover up their existence or does he try to show everyone their existence and the aliens hide? I just feel like there is potential for a feature length film here.
LOVED this! But i feel like you guys are making fun of me since my web show is pretty much what Josh's character was playing :/ anyway can i buy that alien head light? I need more stuff for my set background lol
AnythingSTRANGE As long as you enjoy doing what you're doing who cares what people think of it. I would think it was cool to have things like this that are related.
LMAO, loved the ending, brilliant. Josh was great as always. The makeup was pretty good but Id go with silicone next time. The face while well blended didn't move like a fat face, foam is a lot more static than silicone for this sort of thing. And in the closeup on Josh with the bright lights on him, with such hi def cameras it was easy to see it was a prosthetic (I noticed similar things while watching the recent Hobbit films). Overall though I loved it, a really clever spin on the alien abduction story.
So the mystery now is about what happened in "Footless in Forest" case...!! Ned has to do with that?!! Hm....house in nowhere... mystery killings in the area... an obsessed guy with aliens/conspiracy! Hm again...! Hmmmm more!! Haha! I thing Riot guys you just have the sequel!!! Awesome work as always!!! Keep it up and inspire us all!
Amazing work and the sound design was very well done as it enhanced the short a lot. One very small thing though that I got to ask is was there an actuall fridge or you used a light source to ''simulate'' one? (when Josh turns there is no light compared to the previous shot and from what i can see there is also no fridge)
Superbly done. Totally cinema grade throughout.
Such an awesome compliment! Thank you.
I agree!!!!!!
***** What he said ^
***** yeah use cinemagrade on cod footage magno lmfao
***** i was just fucking around ahahahah
THAT WAS SO AWESOME!!! now if Josh had only danced and sang Turbulent Displacement while celebrating his UFO prize :P seriously so GOOD!!
The fact that this still holds up after 7 years just shows how skilled these purveyors of films really are
I feel really sorry for the people who are only getting 'fat joke' out of this. What about spectacular cinematography, vfx, acting, directing, lighting, pacing... the list goes on? This is absolutely film riot's best work yet. I just wish there was more of it.
I know right! I thought everything was amazing. Did anyone catch that the yoda bobblehead is always in Film Riot Mondays???
William Klepper Did you catch the grenade too?
what about the Proximity reference? Look for it... it's there.
And the bammiewam bar
***** imo the writing is pretty much the only problem in every film Ryan has done. But Ryan should really bring in outside writers for future projects, imo it's the one thing holding him back but hey if he loves doing what hes doing that's all that matters.
This is another level of production. Perfection in every way! Haha, well done Ryan and Film Riot!
"We're gonna need a bigger spaceship"
Soooo good! so so good! Film quality was beautiful! the makeup on Josh was fantastic! And I loved the style of this short film. Two Thumbs up!
It smells like Spielberg, but tastes like Connolly. Mother F'n Connolly!! Great job everyone. I really liked the comedic twists.
So nice I read it twice.
So nice, you got more likes....than Ryan
this should have more views
Nicely done guys! Loads of fun in only 5 minutes!
How does the NTG4+ compare to the NTG3? If cost was not a consideration which one would you recommend?
That's Josh?? I honestly could not tell until I read the credits!
Fantastic film guys! Can't wait to see more :D
Heather Henry did an amazing job.
Giusweep I recognized his voice, but I had to check it in the credits as well. Awesome makeup!
Giusweep I knew it was Josh but he looks so different.
Giusweep if you seriously couldnt tell that was Josh u dont really pay much attention lol
Giusweep i did take me a sec to realize it was josh
finally, after wading thru endless piles of emotional baggage on DUST ; an original piece of science fiction worthily of its 5 and a half minutes!
He abducts UFOs. He is the most interesting man in the world.
I am not always abducting ofu, but when i do .....
:-)
That was a very expensive fat joke.
agreed
How so? AfterFX only cost a couple hundred dollars and film school students work for free.
Lol just when I thought he was going to be splintered to bits
Treu, best one ive heard in a while tho.
totally worth it still, 4 years later ;)
How has this still not blown up? It's barely at 1.1 million views 9 years later?! A complete hidden gem.
Wow, quality of scenes keeps getting better. This was really a cinematic experience. FIlmRiot has gone to Hollywood level now :) So happy for you guys.
You just made my day! Thank you.
Film Riot Everything Nikhil Vetam said is true. It is fantastic! The ending needed more. I feel cheated.
***** What can I say, I also needed more. Just imagine this turning into big time movie. Now that's what I call UF OH YEAH
This is such great work! Ryan Connolly just went Spielberg on us!
I will now love you forever!
This is a very well done short science fiction comedy, filled with believable acting, a fantastically-written script, excellent cinematography, and wonderful visual effects. Hats off to Ryan Connolly and his cast/crew!
DAAAMMN! So freakin good!! You guys rock! I love all your lightning!
That's Ryan Booth's insane talent.
Absolutely, without a doubt, the best one yet. Hats off to ALL the crew. IN-credible....
Thank you!!!
Yeah! But what is the point of it? What does the film say to the viewer?
+Film Riot WHAT IS THE POINT OF IT?
MyFBX That fat people can abduct UFOs.
MyFBX If you chase your dreams for long enough, eventually they'll come to you.
This was basically a five minute fat joke. *_I love it._*
Man, Josh really put on weight for this role. Such dedication!
I think it was makeup dude haha 😂😂
S&S Pictures
Don't be silly. Josh is clearly a hardcore method actor.
This was hilarious!!
Hi Darious! Huge fan here, just wanted to say you're awesome!
hehehe :))
A disgruntled Dos Equis spokesman storms off cursing
Is this REAL? th-cam.com/video/-akBqiuoZrk/w-d-xo.html
Here in 2021. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Brilliant! I love the atmosphere that you created here.
Beyond terrific to see finished projects from you guys -- the talks and how-to's are invaluable, but seeing it all come together in the form of a project like this...makes the entire incubation period worth it.
That's our hope! Thanks for watching and for your support!
Awesome work guys! well done, loved it!
Thanks man!
Film Riot Did you use the C100 mkii and the 24-105 f/4 L lens? For the little amount of light you had, it preformed very well in the noise department!
"Writen", Directed, and Edited by Ryan Connolly
Oh you.
That truly was most excellent! Made my day just to watch it!
Thank you!
Film Riot Guessing by Josh's appearance I'd better not ask for a case of Bammie Wham Bars! ;-)
This is one of your most polished well done efforts yet. Too good for TH-cam!
This deserves so much more recognition
Not what I expected, but who ever said that was a bad thing?
It's a great thing in my book! :)
Film Riot How come didn’t you guys cast a naturally overweight person? Great job btw kinda reminds me homer simpson being abducted… lol
Halfbloodindian I bet it costs less to put on makeup than cast an actor?.. Or maybe it's just awesomely fun XD
Halfbloodindian Probably cause other actors would not do it for free? ha
SuperDashRendar would YOU want to look for a 'heavy' person and explain the script to them? dont get me wrong, the short was awesome, but the best part was probably the music for the credits scene.. sweet jesus
I agree. Daniel James is INCREDIBLE!
Film Riot do u know which song by him it is
Ryan, you have far out done yourself with this one. The immense amount of detail and development to Ned in a five minute time section is amazing. You really created a Steven Spielberg feel with this. The music, lighting, environment all perfect.
An Awesome short film released on my birthday? YES!!!!!
Thanks!
My birthday too mate! Happy birthday! Great present from the Connollys....
Gus Sharples Thanks Happy Birthday also!
DAMN! WHO FREAKIN KNEW THAT THE EXACT DAY THAT RYAN CHOSE WAS YOUR BIRTHDAY! THATS A ONE IN THREE HUNDRED AND SIXTY FIVE CHANSE!

Paper Planes Channel Yay! Someone being positive on the internet. Truly a rare thing.
I love the opening shot. It covers all the exposition so well, the monologue is hilarious, and the cinematography is just on fleek.
This is amazing! But holy cow THAT WAS JOSH? I knew he was in this but I kept waiting for him to show up... that's some fantastic makeup work and (of course) acting skill! Directing and cinematography were also just top notch. Great job!
Absolutely fun! Loved it! Makeup is great! Just loved everything about it, story, acting, FX, just everything. Josh is great! Thanks for making this.
By far my favorite color grading of all your short films. This is great. Excellent job as always Ryan and team.

Wow! This was awesome! Thanks so much. You made my day sir!
That is one gorgeous and well crafted short, can't wait to see the next one!
Jon Finger looks you're going to have to up your game.
sandtrumpsdirt Ha, always.
Great job capturing the style and essence of Spielberg right down to the triune triangle transition to the marking on the newspaper, great job and hilarious twist. Can’t believe it took me almost 4 years to watch this
Still one of my favorites. Great acting range by Josh here as well!
The score was awesome.
Immediately upon "Must acquire more beverage" I immediately liked the actor. I was not disappointed by the rest of the show--tyvm :)
You guys have done a remarkable job on every element of this film! I must say, I find it very interesting how the quality of your cinematography has increased each film you've done, as the expense of the camera used has decreased. Thanks so much brother!
The beginning when everything was vibrating and the picture falling off the cabinet with all the light spewing in reminded me of the beginning of the Polar Express. It was just missing a steam whistle.
TH-cam algorithm will let this video become viral again in 2021. 👽 See you guys again in a few months. (986.875 views at the moment of this post)
i love the triune triangle transition, reminds me of the paramount mountain in Raiders lol
That's exactly what I was doing a nod too. One of my favorite openings.
Film Riot Yeah it really felt like an old Spielberg film or something from the 70's or 80's. You never put out any bad work. I am filled with happiness to see this and the rest of the new material coming up.
Well Ry it was beautifully executed, great film.
It does not matter how many times I watch this, it is great!!!
Texas
wow, did anybody read the article on the side, "footless in the forest"? Its just the aftermath of Proximity, i didn't even notice it until i went back to read the main article
This is what is known as a perfect short film.
Finally, a humorous scifi short, without the usual bleak dystophies. Please continue like this!
I love you, whoever-wrote-the-copy-for-the-newspaper. U_U
hey thanks for doing what you love and making cool shit, cause I enjoyed this so much
So glad you dug it. Thanks for watching!
Superb film. For a moment I thought that blue tractor beem was an engine start up sequence and our lovely protagonist would have been barbecued
And that’s why im safe from alien abduction! 😆🤪😁👍🏼
Louis McClung that's why I always win at seesaw.
Suicide by words
This is entire video is a fat joke with vfx
Louis McClung go eat
this movie is nice, it's a mixer between silence of the lamp and planet of the apes, and shows a great message about organic farming and i like the way it handles racisim
There was no racisim in this video, this movie talks about people over weight but never discusses the topic of racism
Xae I believe that he was commenting using a technique that we call "sarcasm". It's commonly used by hilarious internet trolls.
I'm constantly rewatching all the making-of videos for this short! Love it.
That was really well shot and I love the plot.
Thanks very much! :)
Great film, I liked it. Didn't see that coming. I rather thought they would eat him or something :D
Haha.
I can't believe this was 8 years ago... I came back to check it out after seeing a video titled something like "C100 mark ii in 2023?" So I figured I'd come back to see how it holds up. It really bothers me that he unwrapped the chocolate bar and didn't eat it until later.
I know
Proof that they walk among us.
@@RobMacKendrick LMAO
On The Simpsons, the aliens simply used a secondary beam to lift him up.
Budget cuts.
Wouldn't have helped as his weight pulled the whole ship down. It would have just fallen faster.
th-cam.com/video/uODYvJG_R-Y/w-d-xo.html
Everything was right. My favorite film riot short ever. Completely nailed it.
That was AWESOME!
You have chosen wisely.
Loved it! That was some amazing work.
I remembered watching this short film in high school and it taught me one important thing about filmmaking. That you don't need a lot to make a kick ass movie. Also I'm stillll waiting on Intercept
*HEY* Does he have a tutorial on how to get sounds like that so perfect and professional? Perfect audio!
***** Hire me lol! Thanks for the compliment!
Rob Krekel profesh. (:

Poor UFO. I burst out laughing when he broke the UFO cause he was so fat!
Well done guys, well done. Very fun to watch & totally delivered.
Now if you'll excuse me...I must acquire more beverage. :)
Well done! Throughout the whole thing I was wondering who is the huge dude? Didn't realize who it was until I saw the credits. Great job guys, very funny!
Dat makeup dough.
Josh is really a great actor. I didn't recognize him untill a certain point but had to wait for the titles to be sure. Very very nice made shortfilm
I hope in the near future you guys will be able to do features! If they come even close to the quality of this short, we'd be in for one hell of a ride!
Very nice job!
Thank! We do too. :)
Film Riot Where did you get the music samples for this short movie?
I just realized that "footless in the forest" is a proximity reference xD
I NEVER SAW THAT!!!!! OMG IT TOTALLY IS!!
Jaden Michael Lel :3
After watching this again, I could totally see the story expand - what happens when he goes inside the UFO and finds aliens? Does he cover up their existence or does he try to show everyone their existence and the aliens hide? I just feel like there is potential for a feature length film here.
lol, Captain! We are going to need a bigger Ship!
Amazing work, film riot! Loved the ending.
this short is fantastic , i liked the visual fx part of it and Ryan Booth Cinematography
This is one of my favorite short films on youtube tbh, Thanks Film Riot!
Has anyone noticed the name of the chocolate bar?! Little film riot Easter egg there!
Haha shit Ye! I've only just noticed that!
LOVED this! But i feel like you guys are making fun of me since my web show is pretty much what Josh's character was playing :/
anyway can i buy that alien head light? I need more stuff for my set background lol
AnythingSTRANGE love your show btw
AnythingSTRANGE As long as you enjoy doing what you're doing who cares what people think of it. I would think it was cool to have things like this that are related.

LMAO, loved the ending, brilliant. Josh was great as always. The makeup was pretty good but Id go with silicone next time.
When will there be a behind the scenes? would love to see that
All this month! www.filmriot.com/films/
The next month will be just that! And then another film and another month of bts and then another one!!
Amazing work and the sound design was very well done as it enhanced the short a lot. One very small thing though that I got to ask is was there an actuall fridge or you used a light source to ''simulate'' one? (when Josh turns there is no light compared to the previous shot and from what i can see there is also no fridge)
It's a mini-fridge that he leans down to.
I just had a look back at this again. Still looks amazing today. And also noticed the "Bammie Wham Bar" there, don't know how I missed that, love it!
I love you, Film Riot.
This is awesome! I totally laughed my ass off when the ship crashed, and the twist at the end was excellent :-D (Man abducts UFO) lol
I'm still laughing, that is a RIOT! Good job.
One of the best Josh performances ever!! Give this man a role in the MCU stat
This can be a sell-out in Turkey :)
Naber ya XD
Yeah sure, but where's the bacon?
very cool thanks!
Anti-gravity has limits I see !
Hilarious lol !
I thought I saw the punchline when the tractor beam came on , sweet ending . Great short film it's one of my favorites now. Thanks!
Simpsons did it.
Lou Cummins It's not exactly the same ;) U.F.Oh Yeah is better.
I am only teasing, this short is amazing.
You're right the Simpsons did do it. I like this short but I kept thinking about Homer!
